NFL Week 15 MUST WIN Games for Head Coaches and Teams

MikeShanahan4

Mike Shanahan, Washington Redskins vs. Atlanta Falcons – Amazing as it sounds Slam-Dunk future member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a coach…

Mike Shanahan

…is guaranteed to have THREE losing seasons in FOUR years coaching the Washington Redskins.

Not that there was anyone here at Coaches Hot Seat that believed Mike Shanahan was going to light the world on fire with the Redskins since we fully expected Mike to run into the same problems that other Washington head coaches have run into since Dan Snyder bought the franchise in 1999 BUT then if you don’t count Joe Gibbs in his second time around in Washington and Marty Schottenheimer the other head coaches Snyder has hired weren’t exactly world-beaters in professional football…

Jim Zorn
Steve Spurrier
Terry Robiskie

With Washington now at 3 – 10 on the season do the last three games against…

At Atlanta Falcons
Dallas Cowboys
At New York Giants

…..mean anything or matter at all?

YES…these games sure the Hell should matter to the Washington Redskins players since they are “professionals” and should have a Helluva lot of self-interest in showing they can finish the season strong as individuals and as a team BUT there is another backstory in these last three Washington games and that is…

Is Robert Griffin III or Kirk Cousins the best QB on the Redskins roster?

We have some former quarterbacks here at Coaches Hot Seat that have watched RGIII very closely in recent weeks and in their opinion…

1.  RGIII is at best playing like an AVERAGE quarterback right now

2.  At times it looks like the Washington offensive players are NOT playing hard for RGIII

That brings us to the last three games of the Redskins season and IF Kirk Cousins rallies this Washington team to a win one, or two, or three games then RGIII might wake-up in 2014 and find out he is going to have to fight like Hell to win the starting QB job in Washington whether Mike Shanahan is back to coach the Redskins next season or not.

Yes, these are very interesting and in some ways disturbing times for the Washington Redskins.

MikeSmith1

Mike Smith, Atlanta Falcons vs. Washington Redskins – Many Coaches Hot Seat members live within 30 miles of the Atlanta Falcons training facility north of Atlanta, Georgia and let’s make something very Damn clear:

Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank is none too happy with the play of his Falcons team in 2013 and Mike Smith is veering very close to getting his rear-end onto a very Damn Hot Seat….Period.

A very good and very talented Atlanta Falcons football team is now 3 – 10 on the season and has left to play….

Washington Redskins
At San Francisco 49ers
Carolina Panthers

….and we would recommend to Mike Smith that his football team find a way to win at least those two home games against Washington and Carolina or the coming offseason is going to be a very un-enjoyable place to be for Smith, his assistant coaches and anyone else that comes into contact with Arthur Blank on a daily basis.

JoePhilbin7

Joe Philbin, Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots – The San Diego Chargers did what they had to do on Thursday night in beating the Denver Broncos to stay in the hunt for the last AFC Wild Card spot and now head coach Joe Philbin and the Miami Dolphins need to step-up and beat the Patriots at home to keep their drive for the Playoffs intact as the 2013 season winds down.

The Miami Dolphins have left to play this season…

New England Patriots
At Buffalo Bills
New York Jets

….and in our opinion the Dolphins will have to win out to have a chance to get the last AFC Wild Card spot and if Miami is left out of the Playoffs for the second straight season under Joe Philbin one has to wonder…

Will Joe Philbin return in 2014 after two seasons of not making the postseason PLUS the entire Incognito and Martin issue hanging over everyone’s heads in Miami?

We don’t have a clue to answer to the above question and the answer might hinge on what the NFL’s investigation into the entire Incognito and Martin mess reveals but for Damn sure IF the Miami Dolphins lose their last three games against the Patriots, Bills and Jets we sure the Hell would not want to be Joe Philbin come late December.

LeslieFrazier67

Leslie Frazier, Minnesota Vikings vs. Philadelphia Eagles – Is there anything that Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier can do to save his job with Minnesota now sitting on a 3 – 9 record and Frazier having put up only ONE winning season in FOUR years coaching the Vikings?

Well, beating the Philadelphia Eagles at home on Sunday would help Frazier’s cause for Damn sure!

Even better would be for the Vikings to win out over…

Philadelphia Eagles
At Cincinnati Bengals
Detroit Lions

….but if the Vikings do that then we would have to ask then?

Where the Hell has that been all season?

Coach Hard Leslie Frazier like your job is on the line….IT IS!

GregSchiano77

Greg Schiano, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. San Francisco 49ers – Maybe Bucs head coach Greg Schiano is safe with only 4 wins on the board this season but with these three games left to be played…

San Francisco 49ers
At St. Louis Rams
At New Orleans Saints

…it sure the Hell would help Schiano’s cause if his Bucs football team could beat the 49ers and Rams in the next two weeks and have 6 wins on the board when the travel to play at New Orleans on December 29.

There is one sure-fire way to beat the San Francisco 49ers and it is the same sure-fire way to beat any football team:

Pressure the man who touches the ball on EVERY PLAY…..that would of course be the Quarterback!

The Dallas Cowboys Doomsday Defense under Tom Landry with Gene Stallings coordinating that defense pressured the Quarterback and WON a Helluva lot of football games!

DennisAllen7

Dennis Allen, Oakland Raiders vs. Kansas City Chiefs – In his first season as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders Dennis Allen put up a record of….

4 – 12

…..and in his second season as the head coach of the Raiders Allen is sitting on a record of…

4 – 9

….with these three games still to be played:

Kansas City Chiefs
At San Diego Chargers
Denver Broncos

Got another 4 – 12 record in Oakland?

Dennis Allen very well may have come December!

Are back-to-back 4 – 12 records good enough to keep you employed as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders?

Well….it might be….because the current Oakland Raiders ARE NOT….these Oakland Raiders!

RexRyan7

Rex Ryan, New York Jets vs. Carolina Panthers – In a season where it is…

Playoffs or BUST

….for Rex Ryan and his New York Jets football team the Jets are now sitting on a…

6 – 7

….record and on the outside looking in for the Playoffs and in Week 15 the Jets have to travel to Charlotte to play the Very Damn Good and Very Damn Hungry…

Carolina Panthers football team!

Got 6 – 8 Rex Ryan?

You Probably Will Come Sunday Night!

After Carolina the Jets have to play against…

Cleveland Browns
At Miami Dolphins

….and even 3 straight wins to finish the season at 9 – 7 might not be good enough for the Jets to play the Playoffs and that would mean….

Rex Ryan = FIRED!

….right?

3 Straight Seasons of not making the Playoffs as the head coach of the New York Jets?

If that won’t get you fired then Hell….NOTHING WILL!

JasonGarrett7

Jason Garrett, Dallas Cowboys vs. Green Bay Packers – One can only imagine what must be going through Jerry Jones’ head at night as he stares up as the ceiling and says to himself….

“The Dallas Cowboys….My Dallas Cowboys…have NOT won a Playoff game since we won the Super Bowl in January 1996! That is 17 NFL Seasons and Counting and during that ENTIRE TIME I…Jerry Jones….was the General Manager of the Cowboys….DAMN!”

JerryJone2

It is just us or does the Greek name….

Narcissus

Narcissus67

…spring to mind when thinking of Jerry Jones and for those slow on the uptake about whom Narcissus was Wikipedia does a nice job of summarizing:

“Narcissus or Narkissos, possibly derived from narke meaning “sleep, numbness,” in Greek mythology was a hunter from the territory of Thespiae in Boeotia who was renowned for his beauty. He was the son of a river god named Cephissus and a nymph named Liriope. He was exceptionally proud of what he did to those who loved him. Nemesis noticed and attracted Narcissus to a pool, wherein he saw his reflection and fell in love with it, not realizing it was merely an image. Unable to leave the beauty of his reflection, Narcissus died. Narcissus is the origin of the term narcissism, a fixation with oneself.”

Of course the parallel with Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys is that like Narcissus Jerry Jones long ago….in our opinion of course….

Fell In Love With Himself and His Ability to be the General Manager of a NFL Football Team

…and as Jerry Jones has started into the “mirror” and fell in love with himself being the GM of the Cowboys for the last 18 NFL Seasons the TRUTH is…

Jerry Jones has Completely Destroyed a once Proud Franchise that Jones ironically brought back from the dead before Destroying it again on the cross of Jerry Jones’ own Massive Ego.

In our opinion of course.

Memo to Jerry Jones:  Read the below Coaches Hot Seat Blog post from November 2010 when we wrote about what we believed was the proper role of a NFL owner….in this case San Francisco 49ers Owner/President Jed York….and we would recommend doing the same thing with YOUR Dallas Cowboys football team:

Thanksgiving, Rivalry Week and The Great Gatsby – College Basketball Season Underway and Off To A Great Start – Kudos to ESPN – Tom Osborne Issues Statement On Bo Pelini…What About Someone at the University of Nebraska Standing Up for the Nebraska Football Team and Their Head Coach? – NFL Teams and….Michigan….Sniffing Around Stanford’s Jim Harbaugh – Is San Francisco One of Those NFL Teams? – What the York Family Should Be Doing With the San Francisco 49ers – The Rise of China and the Candy Assification of America – “Eventually you will all work for us and all of this will be ours.” – Really? – Yes, the American Republic Is In Great Danger Right Now – Post Week 12 Coaches Hot Seat Power Playoff Poll – Post Week 12 College Football Postseason Tournament, November 24, 2010, Coaches Hot Seat Blog

The Dallas Cowboys are now on the outside looking in of the Playoffs with a record of 7 – 6 and the Cowboys still have to play games against….

Green Bay Packers
At Washington Redskins
Philadelphia Eagles

….and the task for the Cowboys is very Damn simple if they want to play in the Postseason:

WIN OUT!

As for Jason Garrett IF the Dallas Cowboys don’t make the Playoffs for the THIRD time in his THREE full seasons on the job and IF Jason Garrett is kept on as the head football coach of the Cowboys then Jerry Jones will have…

No One To Blame But Himself

….but then that is TRUTH right now and a TRUTH that Jones has not learned nor understood……YET.

MikeMunchak7

Mike Munchak, Tennessee Titans vs. Arizona Cardinals – In three seasons as the head coach of the Titans Mike Munchak has posted records of…

2011:  9 – 7
2012:  6 – 10
2013:  5 – 8

20 – 24

….and unless the Titans finish the 2013 season strong it is our opinion that Munchak just might find himself out of a job come the end of December.

The Titans still have to play this season games against…

Arizona Cardinals
At Jacksonville Jaguars
Houston Texans

…..and if the Titans lose 2 or more their last 3 games then what we believe to be a very good job in the Tennessee Titans might very well open up in the next few weeks.

Coach Hard Mike Munchak!

JimSchwartz7

Jim Schwartz, Detroit Lions vs. Baltimore Ravens – In a very compelling Monday Night Game in Week 15 the…

Detroit Lions travel to play the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore

…that very well may determine a Playoff spot and the coaching future of Lions head coach Jim Schwartz.

Bottom-Line:  Either the Detroit Lions MAKE the Playoffs in 2013 OR Jim Schwartz will be out of job.

Right now the Detroit Lions hold the tie-break over the Chicago Bears in the NFC North division but the Bears are playing the Cleveland Browns on Sunday which means the Lions and their head coach Schwartz could be under some severe pressure by the time Monday night rolls around if the Bears should beat the Browns and if you are thinking right now that…

There are very few things as entertaining as NFL football games where both teams need to win to make the Playoffs

…..then we are thinking alike and that is why we have a great Monday Night Football game on tap for this week!

After the Ravens the Lions will play….

New York Giants
At Minnesota Vikings

….which are both games that the Lions SHOULD WIN but then about anything can happen in the NFL and that is why we would recommend that…

Jim Schwartz coach like his job is on the line on Monday Night….because IT IS!

“A boy shows how much he wants to play in the spring, when it’s tough, and during two a days, when it’s hot and tough.
