2014 – 2015 NFL Head Coaching Changes

NFL2

Before we get to the Mid-January 2015 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Rankings first a few words on the 2014 – 2014 NFL Head Coaching Changes which has seen…

SEVEN NFL Teams

….make moves to change their head coaches this season and those teams are…

Atlanta Falcons
Buffalo Bills
Chicago Bears
Denver Broncos
New York Jets
Oakland Raiders
San Francisco 49ers

….and below is a few quick words on each of the above head coaching change situations:

Atlanta Falcons

OUT = Mike Smith

IN = No one yet but Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn seems to be the front-runner for the job and Dan Quinn is a solid football coach BUT is he a coach that will lead the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl….no one knows the answer to that question.

Buffalo Bills

OUT = Doug Marrone in what seems like a STUPID move to give up a head coaching job in the NFL

IN = Rex Ryan
Oh, here we go again…this time in Buffalo! Without coaching even a down with the Buffalo Bills new head coach Rex Ryan is talking about taking the Bills to the Playoffs which is a nice thought Rex BUT you haven’t been in the Playoffs son since the 2010 – 2011 season! Why do we get the feeling that Rex Ryan’s rear-end is going to be scorching HOT in this New York town of Buffalo just like it was in that New York City That Never Sleeps? Because it has to be TRUE!

Chicago Bears

OUT = Marc Trestman

IN = No one yet but former Denver Broncos head coach John Fox seems to be the front-runner for the job which would be a curious hire for the Bears even though John Fox is a solid football coach that is certainly on a level with Lovie Smith and Smith took the Bears to the Super Bowl. We still haven’t figured out why the Chicago Bears didn’t offer Jim Harbaugh $7 to $8 Million a year to coach the Bears, but then the Chicago Bears organization has been doing some zany things in the last decade-plus and who the Hell knows what those folks in Chicago are thinking these days. If were sitting in the GM spot of the Chicago Bears right now we would go way outside the box to hire the next head coach of the Bears and we know exactly what coach we would hire right now….and there is not a chance in Hell the Bears even have the coach we would hire on their list of potential head coaches.

Denver

Denver Broncos

OUT = John Fox – We are not sure what John Elway is thinking by blowing up the very successful Denver Broncos coaching staff including sending head coach John Fox packing, but then a few of us here at Coaches Hot Seat have been around John since the late 1970s so nothing surprises us when it comes to Elway. This could end Very Good or with a Complete Freaking Disaster for John Elway in Denver because John has the ability to make Very Good and Complete Freaking Disaster decisions and it will be fascinating to see who Elway ends up hiring to coach the Broncos.

IN = No One Yet

New York Jets

OUT = Rex Ryan

IN = Former Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. Todd Bowles is a solid football coach but is a Head Coach? We are all about to find out the answer to that question.

Oakland Raiders

OUT = Dennis Allen, Tony Sparano

IN = Jack Del Rio – Jack Del Rio did a decent job as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars before getting run out of town after posting back-to-back losing seasons and now Rio gets a second-chance to show everyone what he can do as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders. Jack Del Rio and the Raiders seem like a good fit….now let’s see what Jack can do.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

San Francisco 49ers

OUT = Jim Harbaugh

IN = Jim Tomsula – Jim Tomsula is a nice man and good defensive line coach BUT is Jim Tomsula up to being the head football coach of the San Francisco 49ers or any NFL team for that matter?

Was Mike Singletary?

Was Mike Nolan?

Was Dennis Erickson?

Not really and if we had to guess it would be our guess that the San Francisco 49ers are headed towards a….

Complete Freaking Disaster

…and make that the Santa Clara 49ers because a team that plays 50 miles south of San Francisco for Damn sure shouldn’t be calling themselves San Francisco anything!

Mid-January 2015 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Rankings

A chair on fire... metaphor "In The Hot Seat"

These Hot Seat Coaches Are Tired of Being Told How Sorry They Are…BUT Give Them Hell Anyway Mr. Johnny Cash!

Mid-January 2015 NFL Coaches Hot Seat Rankings

JoePhilbin7

1.  Joe Philbin, Miami Dolphins – In THREE seasons coaching the Miami Dolphins Joe Philbin has posted records of…

7 – 9
8 – 8
8 – 8

Overall:  23 – 25

No Playoff Appearances

…and if that is good enough for the owner and management of the Very Damn Average Miami Dolphins then that is good enough for us but for Damn sure Joe Philbin is on the Hot Seat!

GusBradley68

2.  Gus Bradley, Jacksonville Jaguars – In two seasons coaching the Jacksonville Jaguars Gus Bradley has posted records of…

4 – 12
3 – 13

Overall:  7 – 25

….which is nothing short of a Complete Freaking Disaster in Jacksonville and when you are involved in creating a Complete
Freaking Disaster your ass is on the Hot Seat and thus that is where Gus Bradley is sitting right now!

TomCoughlin7

3.  Tom Coughlin, New York Giants – ONE Playoff appearance by the New York Giants in the last SIX seasons…albeit a Super Bowl Title in 2011 – 2012 season….seems to be enough to get Tom Coughlin another year coaching in New York which kind of turns on its head the whole idea that…

“If You Can Make It Here, You Can Make It Anywhere”

….when it comes to New York because just about any random Bum off the streets of Newark could take the New York Giants to the Postseason Playoffs ONE out of SIX seasons…right? RIGHT!

What will the New York Giants do in 2015 under Tom Coughlin?

Our guess…something like 6 – 10, 7 – 9 or 8 – 8….or in other words…..

NOTHING!

Hell, where do we sign-up to be Average As Hell and make Millions of Dollars a year?

Oh…the NFL!

KenWhisenhunt38839

4.  Ken Whisenhunt, Tennessee TitansBelow is what we wrote about the Tennessee Titans hiring Ken Whisenhunt in late January 2014:

“Tennessee Titans
New Head Coach: Ken Whisenhunt
Analysis: Below are Ken Whisenhunt’s yearly and overall records when he was head coach of the Arizona Cardinals:

2007: 8 – 8 – No Playoffs
2008: 9 – 7 – Lost to Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLIII
2009: 10 – 6 – Lost to New Orleans in NFC Divisional Game
2010: 5 – 11 – No Playoffs
2011: 8 – 8 – No Playoffs
2012: 5 – 11 – No Playoffs

Overall Record: 45 – 51 (.469)

Now what would have the Arizona Cardinals’ records have been if Kurt Warner had not been playing for Arizona between 2007 and 2009?

In our opinion the Arizona Cardinals DO NOT go to the Postseason under Whisenhunt if Kurt Warner is not on the Cardinals’ roster and Whisenhunt would have been fired after three or four years on the job instead of six in Arizona.

Can Ken Whisenhunt win with the Tennessee Titans?

Well, in our opinion the Titans DO NOT HAVE right now a NFL-level quarterback on their roster and they have the 11 th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft but we can find NO NFL Mock Draft that has the Titans drafting a quarterback and without a NFL-level quarterback on the Titans’ roster we only have two words for Ken Whisenhunt and the Titans ownership/management:

HOT SEAT!

Oh, by the way….Bruce Arians took over an Arizona Cardinals team that won 5 Games in 2012 under Ken Whisenhunt and won 10 games in 2013 and came very Damn close to being in the Playoffs and was in our opinion one of the best teams in the NFC as the 2013 NFL season ended.

Hmmmmm…..now that is very Damn interesting……isn’t it?”

Ditto in January 2015 only that in his first season with the Titans Ken Whisenhunt put up a record of…

2 – 14!

Ditto Freaking Ditto on Ken Whisenhunt who in our opinion will be out of a job one year from today in January 2016.

LovieSmithTamp;a8322

5.  Lovie Smith, Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Lovie Smith is a solid football coach BUT if the Tampa Bay Bucs put up another record like…

2 – 14

…in 2015 like they did in 2014 then the Lovie Smith show in Tampa will be coming to a quick end and barring the Bucs finding a quarterback that can quickly play at the NFL-level we see little Damn chance that he Bucs will win more than 6 games in 2015!

Is Jameis Winston the answer for the Tampa Bay Bucs?

Hell, Jameis Winston is a great talent but would we trust him with five cents?

No way in Hell!

JeffFisher77822

6.  Jeff Fisher, St. Louis Rams – Jeff Fisher has got a Helluva SCAM going when you consider Fisher has put up the following yearly records over the past FIVE seasons with the Tennessee Titans and St. Louis Rams….

8 – 8
6 – 10
7 – 8 – 1
7 – 9
6 – 10

No Playoff Appearances

….while making somewhere north of $25 Million Dollars over those past FIVE years which is a Helluva job if you can get it and it seems that only in the NFL in America can you be…

Average As Hell

…and make Millions of Dollars a year!

BillionDollars1

Yes, at one time Jeff Fisher was a very good borderline great NFL head coach BUT now…

Jeff Fisher in our opinion is burned-out and is a below average head coach and there is not a chance in Hell he would be coaching an NFL team we owned or managed….PERIOD.

JasonGarrett7

7.  Jason Garrett, Dallas Cowboys – It really is too bad that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones….in our opinion of course…values a head coach that….

Kisses Jerry Jones’ Precious Ass

….over a REAL head football coach and in every way we can imagine Jason Garrett is…

NOT a REAL Head Football Coach

….in the NFL or anywhere else in the game of football for that matter.

JerryJOnes

Jerry Jones has put together a very talented roster in Dallas and if he had a Jimmy Johnson, of Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll or any REAL Head Football Coach on the Dallas Cowboys sidelines then the Cowboys would have been playing in the….

Super Bowl on February 1

…BUT instead the Dallas Cowboys are at home and they just re-signed a head coach in Jason Garrett to a new contract that in FIVE seasons on the job has posted records of….

42 – 32  (.568)

ONE Playoff Appearance

…and by comparison after FIVE years on the job as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys Jimmy Johnson had posted records of…

51 – 37  (.580)

THREE Playoff Appearances

TWO Super Bowl Titles

…and there is ANYONE on Planet Earth besides Jerry Jones and the sycophants that surround Jerry that believe that Jason Garrett is going to take the Dallas Cowboys to a…

Super Bowl Title?

Please….only a Very Damn Stupid Human Being could believe such Complete Nonsense but then there are lots of Very Damn Stupid Human Beings that spend little else with their time on this Earth doing anything but…

Kissing Jerry Jones’ Precious Ass!

Be proud Jerry but for Damn sure don’t think you are smart because you have proven time and time again…and proved it again by re-signing Jason Garrett….that you are as dumb as the cows on the farms of east Texas!

Hell, now we are hungry for a Five Guys Cheeseburger since we mentioned cows!

Coaches Hot Seat NFL Quotes of the Day – Friday, January 16, 2015 – Howard Schultz

Coaches Hot Seat NFL Quotes of the Day – Friday, January 16, 2015 – Howard Schultz

HowardSchultz72727

“Care more than others think wise.”

And

“Dream more than others think practical.”

And

“Expect more than others think possible.”

And

“Risk more than others think safe.”

And

“I believe life is a series of near misses. A lot of what we ascribe to luck is not luck at all. It’s seizing the day and accepting responsibility for your future. It’s seeing what other people don’t see And pursuing that vision.”

And

“People want to be part of something larger than themselves. They want to be part of something they’re really proud of, that they’ll fight for, sacrifice for, that they trust.”

And

“There are moments in our lives when we summon the courage to make choices that go against reason, against common sense and the wise counsel of people we trust. But we lean forward nonetheless because, despite all risks and rational argument, we believe that the path we are choosing is the right and best thing to do. We refuse to be bystanders, even if we do not know exactly where our actions will lead.

This is the kind of passionate conviction that sparks romances, wins battles, and drives people to pursue dreams others wouldn’t dare. Belief in ourselves and in what is right catapults us over hurdles, and our lives unfold.

“Life is a sum of all your choices,” wrote Albert Camus. Large or small, our actions forge our futures and hopefully inspire others along the way.”

And

“In this ever-changing society, the most powerful and enduring brands are built from the heart. They are real and sustainable. Their foundations are stronger because they are built with the strength of the human spirit, not an ad campaign. The companies that are lasting are those that are authentic.”

And

“Remember: You’ll be left with an empty feeling if you hit the finish line alone. When you run a race as a team, though, you’ll discover that much of the reward comes from hitting the tape together. You want to be surrounded not just by cheering onlookers but by a crowd of winners, celebrating as one.”

And

“To stay vigorous, a company needs to provide a stimulating and challenging environment for all these types: the dreamer, the entrepreneur, the professional manager, and the leader. If it doesn’t, it risks becoming yet another mediocre corporation.”

And

“People want guidance, not rhetoric. They need to know what the plan of action is, and how it will be implemented. They want to be given responsibility to help solve the problem and authority to act on it.”

And

“There is a word that comes to my mind when I think about our company and our people. That word is ‘love.’ I love Starbucks because everything we’ve tried to do is steeped in humanity.

Respect and dignity.
Passion and laughter.
Compassion, community, and responsibility.
Authenticity.

These are Starbucks’ touchstones, the source of our pride.”

And

“There’s a metaphor Vincent Eades likes to use: “If you examine a butterfly according to the laws of aerodynamics, it shouldn’t be able to fly. But the butterfly doesn’t know that, so it flies.”

And

“One of the fundamental aspects of leadership, I realized more and more, is the ability to instill confidence in others when you yourself are feeling insecure”

And

“It’s one thing to dream, but when the moment is right, you’ve got to be willing to leave what’s familiar and go out to find your own sound.”

And

“Every step of the way, I made a point to underpromise and overdeliver. In the long run, that’s the only way to ensure security in any job.”

And

“Treat people like family, and they will be loyal and give their all. Stand by people, and they will stand by you. It’s the oldest formula in business, one that is second nature to many family-run firms. Yet in the late 1980s, it seemed to be forgotten.”

And

“While Wall Street has taught me a lot, its most enduring lesson is an understanding of just how artificial a stock price is. It’s all too easy to regard it as the true value of your company, and even the value of yourself.”

And

“At a certain stage in a company’s development, an entrepreneur has to develop into a professional manager. That often goes against the grain.”

And

“Whatever you do, don’t play it safe. Don’t do things the way they’ve always been done. Don’t try to fit the system. If you do what’s expected of you, you’ll never accomplish more than others expect.”

And

“It’s seizing the day and accepting responsibility for your future. It’s seeing what other people don’t see, and pursuing that vision no matter who tells you not to.”
