Maybe it’s a stated goal at Georgia but we have spent a decent amount of time around Athens, Georgia the last couple of years and we don’t think Mark Richt will lose one nanosecond of sleep if he retires without a National Championship on his resume which raises another question:

How driven is Mark Richt to win a National Championship at Georgia?

Our guess….whether Mark Richt wins a National Championship at Georgia or not is probably not real high on what Mark Richt thinks is important to be worried about in life which raises another question:

If you are NOT driven to win a National Championship at a place like Georgia and we mean REALLY driven to win a National Championship should you be the head coach at Georgia?

13.  Kyle Flood, Rutgers vs. Wisconsin – We will admit we haven’t had the best grasp of the situation at Rutgers and head coach Kyle Flood in the Complete Freaking Disaster that is Rutgers athletics these days BUT a Coaches Hot Seat member remembered this past week that he worked on Wall Street with a Rutgers alum in the early 1990s in Manhattan and tracked that person down and after some chit-chat about what each had been doing the past 20-plus years the CHS Member asked about Kyle Flood’s status and the response was:

Rutgers Alum: “It’s a Damn mess over there…always has been it seems. From what I have been hearing if Rutgers doesn’t go to a bowl game this season Flood is finished because the bottom would drop out of the support for the football program and also because it might be possible to rehire Greg Schiano at Rutgers if he doesn’t take another job first.”

Well…there you have it. Kyle Flood needs to take Rutgers to a bowl game in 2015 to save his job and sitting on a record of 3 – 4 with these games left…

“Dozens of regiments had set up impromptu around Fort Corcoran, on Arlington Heights. Every day these canvas congeries trembled like leaves in the wind as fresh rumors of an impending Confederate attack. And every day Lincoln heard fresh stories of demoralized troops, mutinous regiments, poor discipline. Some regiments were entitled to – and clamoring for – an immediate discharge, their ninety-day service complete. The War Department’s officers seemed to busy for the burdensome task of mustering them out. Unchecked, however, mutinous sentiments could spread through camps like a virulent disease.

Lincoln decided to see for himself, and Seward went with him. A few days after Bull Run, they rode across the Potomac in an open carriage on an impromptu visit to the troops. What greeted them was redoubts spreading across the landscape, tents sprouting like mushrooms in nearly every direction, dusty roads, a cross-hatching of cart tracks, men milling or lolling about, few signs of order or purpose. Yet the District, on edge for its safety, has more than enough men to defend it – if the men chose.

As the carriage rattled along towards Fort Corcoran, a red-bearded colonel strode up: William Tecumseh Sherman. He had commanded a brigade at Bull Run, superbly. Lincoln ordered the driver to stop. Here was the officer of the 69 th New York whom Sherman had criticized, panting hard. “Mr. President, I have a cause of grievance. This morning I went to speak to Colonel Sherman, and he threatened to shoot me.”

“I told him Mr. President, that if he refused to obey my order, I would shoot him on the spot,” said Sherman. “And I here repeat it, sir, that if I remain in command here, and he or any other man refuses to obey my orders, I’ll shoot him on the spot.”

Lincoln bent forward. “My lad, if I were you, and he threatened to shoot, I would not trust him, for I believe he would do it!” The troops, until then sympathetic to the officer, howled with laughter.

22.  Mark Helfrich, Oregon – Having taken over the Oregon Ducks football program in 2013 and having been on the Ducks staff on the offensive side of the ball since the 2009 season head coach Mark Helfrich certainly has had a influential hand in recruiting at Oregon in recent years and yet….

It seems that without the transfer of Vernon Adams into the Oregon football program this past offseason the Mighty Oregon Ducks did not have even ONE quarterback that could play on the FBS level on their roster not that the performance of Adams has been anything to write home about!

Please…how in the Hell is it possible with Mark Helfrich and now Oregon OC Scott Frost to be on the offensive coaching staff at one of the hottest college football programs in the country and the Oregon Ducks don’t have a FBS quarterback on their roster once Marcus Mariota left for the NFL?

Of course, there is a Helluva lot more wrong with Oregon Ducks than just the quarterback position because under close inspection the Ducks are coming apart at the seams with cracks forming on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball and even in the special teams and when a team is breaking down across the board that is the fault of one person and one person only…

A great question was recently posed to us by an Oregon-alum about Ducks head coach Mark Helfrich:

“Assume for a moment in Chip Kelly’s last season that Mark Helfrich or his agent had made it known they were interested in then Oregon OC Mark getting a head coaching job on the FBS level away from Eugene would have ANY FBS program have hired Mark Helfrich?”

The obvious answer to the above question is “NO” but then Oregon football hasn’t been for years in the past or is now about Oregon hiring the best available football coach but rather finding a coach that can be approved by the very tiny Politburo that runs things in Eugene which gets its ass-kissed on any and everything and any academic-type that was interested in doing a study on what it’s like to work in a Major College Athletic Program where people spend most of their waking hours kissing the ass of one man then head to Eugene, Oregon….which is of course our humble opinion here at Coaches Hot Seat!

Getting back to Mark Helfrich after the Ducks win over Washington Oregon now sits on records of…

As for CrimsonThroat when Coaches Hot Seat members are in Tuscaloosa for a football game we usually meet CrimsonThroat on the Friday night before the game at the base of Denny Chimes where all the hand and footprints of former Alabama captains are embedded into the concrete and then we take a walk around the beautiful University of Alabama campus before wandering on down to The Strip for some dinner. One thing that people that work in Intelligence are taught is that sometimes when you have a contact that is feeding your information the contact might indeed be feeding you lots of great info BUT he also might be taking what he is learning about you back to someone higher up in their organization so one night after walking around the Alabama campus with CrimsonThroat and having dinner on The Strip we went our separate ways as usual…but this particular time we followed CrimsonThroat and where did he go to that night?
