1. Randy Edsall, Maryland vs. Ohio State – In the NINE seasons that Coaches Hot Seat has covered college football and coaches on the Hot Seat we have seen a lot of crazy takedowns of sitting head coaches by people around or on the inside of athletic departments but the story yesterday on 24/7 Sports on Randy Edsall’s imminent firing takes the Freaking Cake in the audacity department!
“Randy Edsall is unlikely to survive as Maryland’s football coach past this weekend’s game against Ohio State, multiple sources close to the situation told InsideMDSports. Barring an unexpected last-minute reversal, Maryland will part ways with Edsall when the floundering Terps enter their mid-season bye week.”
Hey, we can completely understand why the folks at Maryland would want to fire Randy Edsall with him sitting on records of…
Overall: 22 – 33
Conference: 10 – 23
…now in his FIFTH season on the job BUT…
Putting out a Randy Edsall will be fired story right before Maryland plays at Ohio State which is only the SIXTH game of the season and when there are at least 50 teams in FBS that could beat the stumbling around Buckeyes on any given Saturday?
What the Hell happens if Maryland beats Ohio State on Saturday and then turns around and beats a very average Penn State team at home to improve their record to 4 – 3 and 2 – 1 in Big Ten play?
Here’s our thought on the role of an athletic director or anyone in an administrative role at an university that might be asked about the status of a head football coach…
The Coach Is the Coach Until He’s Not the Coach….PERIOD!
….but clearly to us here at Coaches Hot Seat someone at the University of Maryland wanted to send a very clear message that Randy Edsall was DONE in College Park no matter what the Hell happens against Ohio State and the rest of the 2015 college football season and to us that is…
Either call Randy Edsall in and fire him OR continue to support him and for Damn sure don’t be leaking to…
….that Edsall will be fire AFTER the Ohio State game!
What the Hell good does that do for Maryland football and the current Maryland players?
Strange times indeed at Maryland with Randy Edsall clearly on the Hot Seat and needing a win now…In the Worst Damn Way Possible!
Oh, if we were the head coach at Maryland right now we would use this leaked news that we were being fired to piss-off our football team and have the Terps playing like men possessed against the Buckeyes and in reality playing against the administration at Maryland!
2. Mark Richt, Georgia vs. Tennessee – A few decades ago when Coaches Hot Seat members were in college and long before political-correctness came to dominate American college campuses with Candy Ass Pussies running around saying all kinds of Crapola and laying all kinds of Candy Ass Pussy rules on anyone that moves a college professor could directly challenge his students in order to get them to THINK about the world and use their BRAINS which is the ultimate goal of a college education….well….it used to be which is to learn how to THINK!
One of our college professors did gets us to THINKING one day in class when in a philosophy course he asked for every student of any religion that believed in a Heaven or afterlife once you were dead to raise their hands. In that class that day about 80% of the students raised their hands with the other 20% falling into a category that could broadly be described as something like…
“Hell, I don’t have a clue what happens after we die!”
The philosophy professor then wrote down the number of students that believed in a Heaven or afterlife on the board which we will call 35 for this discussion and proposed the following which he did in order to get his students to THINK:
Philosophy Professor: “Consider for a moment that a large alien spaceship arrives on the Earth filled with people that look remarkably like humans but not totally like humans and they request to hold a press conference at the United Nations in New York City where leaders of countries from around the world and the media can ask questions of the aliens that remember….look remarkably like humans but not totally like humans. The aliens are of course allowed to have their meeting with nations from around the world and the media at the United Nations and they open this event by saying the following:
“We are your forefathers. We populated this planet tens of thousands of years ago with human beings and have watched from afar as you have developed over these many thousand years and we have returned now because you have reached the point that many advancing civilizations do when they either kill everyone on the planet with the very powerful weapons they have developed or they move forward as intelligent beings. We wanted to step-in at this point and say there is a way forward without all this killing which we have noted over the last few thousand years has often been indiscriminate killing over the different religions that have spread around the Earth. We must tell you now that there is no God as the religions of the Earth have conceived of him and the various prophets that different religions follow and worship are nothing but false Gods and are not the truth and we should know because we delivered humans to this planet. Our civilization is about 1 million years ahead of yours here on Earth and we long ago learned that our Universe is but one of several universes and that the ultimate Creator of what we all live in is not now or never has in the past communicated with anyone on Earth or any of the other alien civilizations we have run into during our vast travels in space. Very simply….your religions are all Bogus, there are no Heavens to go to after death, and all you have is your life on Earth and we are here to try and make that life….the lives of the Billions that now live on Earth….as best as it can be and hopefully as you move towards become a much more advanced intelligent species that forever ends the madness of violence on your planet and quits the silly worship of religions that have no basis in fact nor reality.”
The Philosophy Professor continued…
Now let me ask specifically the 35 people that raised their hands that believe in life after death or some kind of Heaven that you have been taught in your particular religion what would be your individual reaction to what these alien beings said especially if they were able to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that what they were saying was true? Would you still worship the God you were raised to worship and still follow your religion and also more importantly for our discussion in this classroom would you live your life any other way now that you knew that there was no Heaven or Hell that would judge your life and actions upon your death, but instead your life on this Earth was the only thing you were going to get?
Amazingly that day in that classroom some students were not able to even with just a potential scenario to detach their minds from what they had been taught….some would say brainwashed….during their entire lives as it pertains to their particular religion to answer the Philosophy Professor’s questions honestly because they could not cross the threshold of even the idea that what they believed had been proved could be complete bunk relative to their religion….at least in the proposed scenario.
Of course the most important question posed by the Philosophy Professor which is a question as old as Socrates is a fundamental question of our lives on this Earth which is:
“What is the good life and why is living a good life so Damn important?”
Which brings us to Georgia head coach Mark Richt who as everyone knows and has been said by thousands is a…
“Good Christian Man”
….and thus let’s place Mark Richt in the above scenario and assume what would Mark Richt’s answers be to the Philosophy Professor’s questions:
In our opinion like most devoted Christians Mark Richt would be shaken to the core to learn there was no God…that Jesus Christ was not a prophet…that the religion he had built his life around was Bogus and that there was no Heaven that he and others would eventually go to but then that’s not the most important issue here…is it?
No it isn’t, because the most important question our Philosophy Professor posed that day was….
Would you now live your life any other way if you learned the religion you believed in was bogus?
In our opinion…for the most part Mark Richt would continue to live what Socrates called the good life doing good deeds, helping the poor, being a good neighbor, a good father and husband, and generally being a “good Christian” and right there is where the rubber meets the road on where Mark Richt has struggled in recent years at Georgia most importantly not winning an SEC Conference Title since the 2005 season.
Mark Richt….in our opinion of course….even when confronted with evidence that the religion he believed in was Bogus would not change the way he lived his life in any way because Mark Richt like a lot of us believes that the way he lives his life is not just a “Christian” thing to but more importantly the “Right” thing to do in our short life on this Earth and that living Socrates’ proposed “good life” is an essential mission of our lives on this Earth whether we believe in Jesus Christ or another deity or not.
What then does ALL of the above have to do with Mark Richt’s Georgia football team getting its’ ass whipped by Alabama last Saturday and facing a CANNOT LOSE game against Tennessee in Knoxville this coming Saturday?
As we just proved above….in our opinion mind you….Mark Richt would not change his life one iota if he learned that his Christian religion was Bogus BUT Mark Richt would in our opinion suddenly have a different perspective on the importance that fans of Georgia football place upon the Bulldogs winning football games and how Very Damn Important it was for Mark Richt as the head coach at Georgia to win….
Games, Conference Championships, and National Championships
….in his short life on this Earth because it would bring so much happiness to the fans of Georgia football. Suddenly the fog that seems to have overtaken Mark Richt in recent years which has seen in our opinion the burning desire to win that used to exist within Richt having almost been extinguished completely which also in our opinion flows directly from how he views football through the prism of his Christian faith which no doubt places football way down the totem pole in importance.
Sorry Mark Richt….you can’t be the head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs if winning….
Games, Conference Championships, and National Championships
…is way down the totem pole and if that is the case then you need to find something else to do with the very good life you live on this Earth and let someone coach the Bulldogs that places winning….
Games, Conference Championships, and National Championships
….right there with family, religion, friends, etc…and will fight like Hell to produce a BIG winner while coaching the Georgia football team.
After all of the above of course Tennessee is of course a CANNOT LOSE game for Mark Richt….and something we are very interested to see here at Coaches Hot Seat in this game against the Vols:
Is there any fight…and we mean REAL fight….left in Mark Richt?
We shall all be watching very closely Mark…and who knows…maybe some other folks “up there” will be watching as well!
3. Butch Jones, Tennessee vs. Georgia – For all the Internet rumor about Tennessee head coach Butch Jones striking a Vols player the members of Coaches Hot Seat that played football in the 1970s and 1980s can only laugh because we were hit, popped, facemask grabbed, and challenged mentally and sometimes physically by our football coaches in high school and college that these Candy Asses playing college football today couldn’t handle on the best day of their lives on Earth!
Getting back to Butch Jones current predicament with his football team sitting at 2 – 3 on the season with these games still left on the schedule….
Georgia At Alabama At Kentucky South Carolina North Texas At Missouri Vanderbilt
….we can only say to Butch Jones that by far the best kind of football coach in the early part of the 21 st century is what we would label as….
A Hard Driving Challenging Optimist
….which in English means a coach that asks and expects a lot out of his players BUT also has his players backs just as a good father would with his sons.
Tennessee has enough talent on its roster to win….
6 of its last 7 games
…with only Alabama holding a very large talent edge and Georgia holding a slight talent edge but with the UGA game being played at Knoxville we see no reason at all that the Vols don’t win at least…
7 or 8 Games in 2015
….starting with a win over Georgia which is very simply a CANNOT LOSE game for Butch Jones.
4. Charlie Strong, Texas vs. Oklahoma – For all the people claiming Charlie Strong inherited a bunch of spoiled brats and not that much talent at Texas from Mack Brown we can only say that Strong inherited as much talent as…
Nick Saban did at Alabama
Urban Meyer did at Ohio State
Jim Harbaugh did at Michigan
…and those coaches either did or are winning very early in their tenures and Strong is now in his second season at Texas and sitting on records of….
Overall: 7 – 1
Big 12: 5 – 6
….which are very BAD in every sense of the word BAD and are about to become a Helluva lot WORSE!
In our opinion Charlie Strong has plenty of talent at Texas right now to not be blown out of games against teams like TCU and for Damn sure he has enough players on the Texas roster to find at least a few of them that are willing to fight for their team, school and teammates.
We here at Coaches Hot Seat could not help but laugh when we saw the below headline on a story written by Kevin Sherrington of the Dallas Morning News this week…
Hell, Bozo the Clown could win at Texas “if he gets enough time” Kevin!
Hell…this is Texas Longhorns football we are still talking about here…right?
Up next for Texas and Charlie Strong a CANNOT LOSE game against Bob Stoops and his Sooners that has the tinge of what might just be another…
Complete Freaking Blowout
….if things get out of hand early in the Red River Rivalry and if another blowout happens to Texas this Saturday…..
Well…let’s hope Charlie Strong’s agent is working the phones right now to find Charlie another college head coaching job because if the current trend continues the Longhorns will have a new head football coach before Christmas!
5. Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech vs. NC State – After the ACC Conference loss to Pitt last Saturday Hokies head coach Frank Beamer has posted an ACC Conference record over the past FOUR seasons of….
12 – 13
….and if that can keep you employed as the head football coach at Virginia Tech then where the Hell do we sign up to make Millions while doing MEDIOCRE work?
Yes…this Saturday’s game against NC State is a CANNOT LOSE game for Frank Beamer and the Hokies!
6. Mike London, Virginia vs. Pitt – Another head coach in the ACC that has an AWFUL record in ACC Conference play is Virginia head coach Mike London who in SIX seasons at UVA has posted a conference record of….
11 – 29
….which is nothing short of a Complete Freaking Disaster for Virginia football with the Cavs opening up ACC play this Saturday against Pitt….which just beat Virginia Tech!
Hell…the Pitt game and EVERY game left on Virginia’s schedule in 2015 is a CANNOT LOSE game for Mike London!
7. Steve Spurrier, South Carolina vs. LSU – Probably Steve Spurrier’s greatest accomplishment in his now ELEVEN seasons as the head coach at South Carolina is his SEC Conference record of…
44 – 39
….which is remarkable considering the heavyweights in the SEC that the Gamecocks have had to play over those past ELEVEN seasons BUT as remarkable as that accomplishment is over the past TWO seasons Spurrier has posted a record of…
3 – 8
….in SEC Conference play and in our eyes using the basic eye test the South Carolina football team is going backwards on the field with noticeably much worse play on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball which of course is the responsibility of the…
Ole’ Ball Coach Steve Spurrier!
Let’s just be honest here in our opinion of course….Steve Spurrier is a part-time coach relative to the other coaches in the SEC Conference and when you are winning there is no problem in being a part-time coach BUT if you are losing as the Gamecocks are now doing on a regular basis and ONLY working your ass off around the clock will get things turned around then the part-time coach moniker becomes a Helluva problem and that is what Steve Spurrier has on his hands right now as his football team heads to Baton Rouge to play LSU:
A Helluva Problem!
Our opinion…South Carolina will be lucky to win FOUR games in 2015 and if the Gamecocks win FOUR or less games in 2015 there is not a chance in Hell Steve Spurrier will be coaching South Carolina in 2016 unless of course the University of South Carolina is being run by Communists!
8. Bret Bielema, Arkansas vs. Alabama – It just cannot be a fun feeling to have a CANNOT LOSE game against Alabama in Tuscaloosa but that is exactly what Bret Bielema is facing as he takes his 2 – 3 Razorbacks team to Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday which we are already going to say it…
Will Be A Loss For Arkansas
Arkansas, Bret Bielema, and the Razorback Players are NOT MAN ENOUGH to beat Alabama
…which is as self-evident as Jefferson’s “All Men Are Created Equal”…..right?
With a loss to Alabama and dropping to 2 – 4 on the season and with these games left to play….
Auburn UT Martin At Ole Miss At LSU Mississippi State Missouri
…we see Arkansas winning NO MORE THAN…
…in 2015 and can an Arkansas head coach in his third season on the job possibly survive posting a sub-.500 record?
Well this is Arkansas after all which is of course and that means…
Arkansas, Bret Bielema, and the Razorback Players are NOT MAN ENOUGH to beat Alabama
….so maybe it is possible for Bret Bielema to win…
5 SEC Conference Games in 3 Seasons
…and keep his job because after all we are talking about…
Arkansas, Bret Bielema, and the Razorback Players which are NOT MAN ENOUGH to beat Alabama!
Arkansas will be 2 – 4 after Saturday’s game against Alabama…
Chisel it in Granite Folks!
9. Al Golden, Miami vs. Florida State – Al Golden’s Miami team begins ACC play on Saturday with a game at Florida State and now in his FIFTH season coaching the Hurricanes Golden has posted a record of…
16 – 16
….in ACC Conference play which we can only say since we are talking Miami football here is….
Here’s the latest Bottom-Line on Al Golden from our friends in South Florida:
Al Golden needs to win 10 Games and be ACC Coastal Division Champs to return to coach the Hurricanes in 2016
With that in mind Good Luck to you against FSU Al!
10. Mike Riley, Nebraska vs. Wisconsin – With the Idiotic loss to Illinois leaving our Nebraska-alum buddies in the Omaha era dumbfounded that such Total Idiocy could be coaching the Nebraska Cornhuskers Mike Riley and his football team have to move forward with a home game against Wisconsin which very simply is not only a game that Mike Riley CANNOT LOSE it is a game that IF the Cornhuskers do lose at home in Lincoln Mike Riley is going to be in a Helluva tough spot that will make those practices he participated in under Bear Bryant at Alabama look like a child’s tea party!
With a loss to Wisconsin the Cornhuskers would drop to 2 – 4 on the season and would have a Helluva tough time even winning SIX games and the wrath that would fall down on Mike Riley and the AD at Nebraska Shawn Eichorst if Nebraska doesn’t even get to the .500 mark in 2015 will be nothing short of EPIC and will shake the Nebraska athletic department to the core and Katie Bar the Door in that situation because ANYTHING could happen including Mike Riley and Shawn Eichorst being show the door in December and being told very clearly to….
Get Your Asses Out!
Oh YES….Wisconsin is a CANNOT LOSE game for Mike Riley in every Damn sense of the words CANNOT LOSE!
Good Luck Mike and we MEAN THAT in every sense of the words MEAN THAT!
