We here at Coaches Hot Seat welcomed the College Football Playoff after the Disaster that was the Bogus and Un-American BCS and we watched on with great interest as the structure and governance of the College Football Playoff was put together over the past couple of years BUT when we first read that the Semi-Final Games of the College Football Playoff were going to be played on New Year’s Eve kicking off even when Millions of Americans would still be at work we started asking questions….LOTS of Damn questions!

One of the more interesting things that happened in 2015 is that several of us were with our families up in Montana last Summer and one night around the dinner table a Coaches Hot Seat member casually said….

“Playing the College Football Playoff Semi-Final Games on New Year’s Eve is a risky move.”

“What did you just say?”

Wife: “You’ve got to be kidding me? Don’t they know that the women that are not at work on New Year’s Eve which is most women in America are very busy doing things all day to get ready for that night? This may go down as the stupidest thing in the history of TV in America!”

14.  Tim DeRuyter, Fresno State – We have LOTS of theories here at Coaches Hot Seat on why Fresno State has fallen so far the last couple of seasons under Tim DeRutyer after such a strong start….

2012:  9 – 4 – MWC Conference Champ
2013:  11 – 2 – MWC Conference Champ
2014:  6 – 8
2015:  3 – 9

….and most of those theories will never see the light of day but there is no doubting…at least in our opinion…Fresno State is one of the TOUGHEST jobs in FBS Football and a head coach at Fresno will either stay on top of EVERYTHING or things can go South fast as they have the last couple of seasons for DeRuyter.

15.  Gary Andersen, Oregon State – Corvallis, Oregon is a place where many Coaches Hot Seat members have been to a dozen-plus football games over the last four decades and we often stop in Corvallis…and Eugene…on trips to play golf at Bandon Dunes and some of the more interesting things we have heard in years in the game of college football have come out of Corvallis recently on Gary Andersen’s first year as the HC at Oregon State most of which will never see the light of day.
