Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Saturday, September 30, 2016 – Paul Newman

PaulNewman727

“I had no natural gift to be anything — not an athlete, not an actor, not a writer, not a director, a painter of garden porches — not anything. So I’ve worked really hard, because nothing ever came easily to me.”

And

“Study your craft and know who you are and what’s special about you. Find out what everyone does on a film set, ask questions and listen. Make sure you live life, which means don’t do things where you court celebrity, and give something positive back to our society.”

And

“A man with no enemies is a man with no character.”

And

“Money won is twice as sweet as money earned.”

And

“Newman’s first law: It is useless to put on your brakes when you’re upside down.”

And

“Newman’s second law: Just when things look darkest, they go black.”

And

“If you’re playing a poker game and you look around the table and and can’t tell who the sucker is, it’s you.”

And

“Every time I get a script it’s a matter of trying to know what I could do with it. I see colors, imagery. It has to have a smell. It’s like falling in love. You can’t give a reason why.”

And

“The embarrassing thing is that the salad dressing is outgrossing my films.”

And

“You gotta have two things to win.  You gotta have brains and you gotta have balls.  Now, you got too much of one and not enough of the other.”  Paul Newman as Eddie Felson, The Color of Money, 1986

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Thursday, September 28, 2017 – William Tecumseh Sherman

“An Army is a collection of armed men obliged to obey one man. Every change in the rules which impairs the principle weakens the army.”

And

“An army to be useful must be a unit, and out of this has grown the saying, attributed to Napoleon, but doubtless spoken before the days of Alexander, that an army with an inefficient commander was better than one with two able heads.”

And

“Courage – a perfect sensibility of the measure of danger, and a mental willingness to endure it.”

And

“I am tired and sick of war. Its glory is all moonshine. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell.”

And

“I hate newspapermen. They come into camp and pick up their camp rumors and print them as facts. I regard them as spies, which, in truth, they are.”

And

“If I had my choice I would kill every reporter in the world but I am sure we would be getting reports from hell before breakfast.”

And

“I make up my opinions from facts and reasoning, and not to suit any body but myself. If people don’t like my opinions, it makes little difference as I don’t solicit their opinions or votes.”

And

“In our Country… one class of men makes war and leaves another to fight it out.”

And

“It’s a disagreeable thing to be whipped.”

And

“My aim, then, was to whip the rebels, to humble their pride, to follow them to their inmost recesses, and make them fear and dread us. Fear is the beginning of wisdom.”

And

“If nominated, I will not run; if elected, I will not serve.”

And

“I think I understand what military fame is; to be killed on the field of battle and have your name misspelled in the newspapers.”

And

“War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over.”

And

“Every attempt to make war easy and safe will result in humiliation and disaster.”

And

“Grant stood by me when I was crazy, and I stood by him when he was drunk, and now we stand by each other.”

And

“War is the remedy that our enemies have chosen, and I say let us give them all they want.”

And

“I know I had no hand in making this war, and I know I will make more sacrifices today than any of you to secure peace.”

And

“There will soon come an armed contest between capital and labor. They will oppose each other, not with words and arguments, but with shot and shell, gun-powder and cannon. The better classes are tired of the insane howling of the lower strata and they mean to stop them.”

And

“There is many a boy here today who looks on war as all glory, but, boys, it is all hell.”

And

“I beg to present you as a Christmas gift the city of Savannah.”

And

“If the people raise a great howl against my barbarity and cruelty, I will answer that war is war, and not popularity seeking.”

27 CFB Head Coaches Facing MUST WIN Games in Week 5 That Have Coaches + Teams That Need To Take It To the Limit!

27 CFB Head Coaches Facing MUST WIN Games in Week 5 That Have Coaches + Teams That Need To Take It To the Limit!

Thanks Randy!

Tom Herman, Texas vs. Iowa State – Tom Herman may have built up some goodwill in taking USC into overtime at the LA Coliseum, but a loss to Iowa State on the road this week would toss all that goodwill into the dumpster and thus it is vital for Herman to keep things rolling with a win over a much less talented Cyclones team. Looking at the rest of the Texas schedule after ISU….

Kansas State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
At Baylor
At TCU
Kansas
At West Virginia
Texas Tech

….we see several…maybe 4 more…potential losses for Texas AFTER the Iowa State game so this is a MUST WIN Game for Herman and the Longhorns!

Mike Riley, Nebraska vs. Illinois – The best thing about Mike Riley’s current situation at Nebraska is that he and his staff know exactly what they need to do which was described to us by a Nebraska-alum as….

“Competitive in Big Ten West division which probably means 10+ wins”

…and with that in mind and the Huskers now at 2 – 2 on the season and these games left to be played…

At Illinois
Wisconsin
Ohio State
At Purdue
Northwestern
At Minnesota
At Penn State
Iowa

….all Mike Riley has to do is WIN OUT which of course makes this week’s game against Illinois a MUST WIN Game!

As for Mike Riley having the expectation of winning 10 games in his third season at Nebraska if one looks back at Riley’s first two seasons in Lincoln the Huskers could have EASILY won 10+ games in each of the last two seasons and after all this is still Nebraska we are talking about here…right?

RIGHT!

Lovie Smith, Illinois vs. Nebraska – In his second season at Illinois head coach Lovie Smith has posted records of…

Overall:  5 – 10

Big Ten:  2 – 7

…..and one would think that sooner or later Lovie is going to have show some improvement in the Illini and what better place than in a MUST WIN Game against Nebraska at home on Friday night? Give ‘em Hell Lovie!

Kalani Sitake, BYU vs. Utah State – We are not quite sure what has gone wrong with BYU football from head coach Kalani Sitake’s first year to second year, beyond the BYU offense being a Total Disaster, but the Cougars are headed towards a critical game against Utah State on Friday night that BYU just flat-out CANNOT LOSE and the reason is the rest of BYU’s 2017 schedule after the Utah State game:

Boise State
At Mississippi State
At East Carolina
San Jose State
At Fresno State
At UNLV
UMass
At Hawaii

Dang…now at 1 – 3 with a loss to Utah State in this spot we doubt BYU could get to 6 wins in 2017 so…YES…Utah State is a MUST WIN Game for Kalani Sitake and his Cougars!

Matt Wells, Utah State vs. BYU – On Friday, October 16, 2015 Utah State beat Boise State to move to 4 – 2 on the season but since that win over the Broncos in 2015 Matt Wells and his Utah State football team have posted a record of…

7 – 16

…and we haven’t a Damn Clue why the Aggies have struggled so since October 2015!

Could there be something going on inside the Utah State football program or in the personal life of head coach Matt Wells…or something else we don’t know anything about? Who the Hell knows…but for Damn sure we know Utah State has played some…

Way Damn Below Average Football

…since October 2015 and now at 2 – 2 on the 2017 season they face a MUST WIN Game against BYU on Friday night mainly because of what the Aggies have left after the game against the Cougars:

Colorado State
Wyoming
At UNLV
Boise State
At New Mexico
Hawaii
At Air Force

We believe that Matt Wells needs to win 6…maybe 7…games in 2017 to return to coach at Utah State in 2018 and with BYU + the games above still to be played with a loss to the Cougars on Friday night it is going to be very hard for the Aggies to win even 6 games in 2017 so Coach Hard Matt Wells….Coach Hard Son!

Gary Andersen, Oregon State vs. Washington – In his first two seasons as the head coach at Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen posted records of…

2015:  2 – 10
2016: 4 – 8

….and Andersen needs to keep things rolling in Corvallis BUT now at 1 – 3 on the 2017 season there is little room for more losses if OSU hopes to hit their 4 win mark from last season!

No…it will not easy for Oregon State to beat Washington on Saturday….BUT…it is a MUST WIN Game for Gary Andersen and Oregon State!

Butch Jones, Tennessee vs. Georgia – If there ANY head coach in college football that needs some PR advice it is Vols HC Butch Jones who has shot himself in the feet so many times in the last few years at Tennessee that we are surprised he has any feet left to put shoes on! Here’s a pro tip for Butch Jones when it comes to items in the news…

When you highlight the issue and use terms like “Fake News” it causes folks that had no interest in the issue to start paying attention to the issue Son!

Butch Jones could learn a thing or two about the importance of using humor and straight-forwardness when in a pressure situation such as Jones now finds himself in at Tennessee and with a loss to Georgia this week at Neyland Stadium it would Jones’ ass onto a one-way trip to the center of the solar system where you know what is located…

The Sun!

Let’s look at who the Vols have left to play in 2017 now at 3 – 1 on the season….

Georgia
South Carolina
At Alabama
At Kentucky
Southern Miss
At Missouri
LSU
Vanderbilt

Now you can see why Georgia is a MUST WIN Game for Butch Jones and the Vols because a loss in this spot and 7 wins will be a tough mark to reach and Jones needs at least 7 wins in 2017 to return as the Vols coach in 2018!

Gus Malzahn, Auburn vs. Mississippi State – Talk about a coach that is one loss from a Total Meltdown it is Gus Malzahn at Auburn who is working in an AU Athletic Department that is melting down around him and his football team and a loss to Mississippi State at home on Saturday and we are talking about a raging prairie fire on The Plains of Auburn that will make the fires in the American West this past Summer look like a small campfire!

Let’s look at the rest of Auburn’s schedule in 2017 now at 3 – 1 on the year:

Mississippi State
Ole Miss
At LSU
At Arkansas
At Texas A&M
Georgia
La. Monroe
Alabama

Gus Malzahn needs at least 8 wins in 2017 and a winning record in SEC play to turn to coach the Auburn Tigers in 2017 and with a loss to Mississippi State on Saturday we don’t see any way in Hell either of those marks are hit so…YEP…this is a MUST WIN Game for Gus and the Tigers!

Kliff Kingsbury, Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State – Amazingly Kliff Kingsbury has Texas Tech at 3 – 0 after wins over Eastern Washington, Arizona State and Houston and now Kingsbury must keep the Red Raiders rolling as they start Big 12 Conference play if he hopes to hang onto his job and that means beating Oklahoma State on Saturday because with these games left…

At Kansas
At West Virginia
Iowa State
At Oklahoma
Kansas State
Baylor
TCU
At Texas

…somehow Kingsbury needs to win AT LEAST 3 more games and beating the Cowboys on Saturday would almost guarantee 6 wins for Tech in 2017.

Scottie Montgomery, East Carolina vs. South Florida – Scottie Montgomery got a important win on Sunday but beating UConn isn’t much of a big deal these days under returned head coach Randy Edsall and Montgomery must keep things rolling if he hopes to be the head coach at ECU in 2018.

Here is what ECU has left on their schedule:

USF
Temple
At UCF
BYU
At Houston
Tulane
Cincinnati
At Memphis

Hell….East Carolina might not win another game in 2017 so EVERY game is a MUST WIN Game for Scottie Montgomery and his Pirates!

Brian Kelly, Notre Dame vs. Miami (OH) – Brian Kelly has the Irish off to the start he had to have of 3 – 1 after 4 games with only a loss to undefeated Georgia at home and Kelly MUST keep things rolling in South Bend because he needs 10+ wins in 2017 to return to coach Notre Dame in 2018 and that means he only has room for ONE more loss among these games:

Miami (OH)
At North Carolina
USC
NC State
Wake Forest
At Miami
Navy
At Stanford

Notre Dame has MORE talent than EVERY team left on their schedule save the USC Trojans so the Irish should only lose one more game…right?

RIGHT!

Jim McElwain, Florida vs. Vanderbilt – Jim McElwain has either sold his soul to the Devil or he is the Luckiest Damn Bastard to coach in college football in a Helluva long time and let’s all see if Jimmy can keep the luck….or sold soul thing…rolling into Week 5 against Vanderbilt in The Swamp.

Florida is 2 – 1 on the season and still has to play games against…

Vanderbilt
LSU
Texas A&M
Georgia
At Missouri
At South Carolina
UAB
Florida State

To stay of the Hot Seat Jim McElwain needs at least 8 wins in 2017 and that means winning 6 of your last games 8 games Jimmy so…YES…Vanderbilt is a MUST WIN Game for the Gators!

Ed Orgeron, LSU vs. Troy – The calculus for Ed Orgeron at LSU is very simple…Coach O cannot lose to any team the Tigers are supposed to beat and looking at the rest of LSU’s 2017 schedule…

Troy
At Florida
Auburn
At Ole Miss
At Alabama
Arkansas
At Tennessee
Texas A&M

…we see No Damn Reason why LSU loses more than twice the rest of the season so…YES…Troy is a MUST WIN Game for Coach O and the Tigers!

Larry Fedora, North Carolina vs. Georgia Tech – Larry Fedora is now moving into the very dangerous…

Launching His Ass Onto the Hot Seat Territory

…after 1 – 3 start to the 2017 season and with these games still left to be played:

At Georgia Tech
Notre Dame
Virginia
At Virginia Tech
Miami
At Pitt
Western Carolina
At NC State

Hell….lose to Georgia Tech Larry Fedora and your ass is going to be on the Hot Seat Son!

Bret Bielema, Arkansas vs. New Mexico State – We don’t give New Mexico State much of a chance to beat Arkansas in Fayetteville on Saturday BUT if NMSU did beat the Razorbacks on Saturday we fully expect that Bret Bielema would be fired right after the game along with Arkansas AD Jeff Long so…YES…this is a MUST WIN Game for the Big Boy and his Chief Enabler in Northwest Arkansas!

Now at 1 – 2 on the season what do the Hogs have left in 2017:

New Mexico State
At South Carolina
At Alabama
Auburn
At Ole Miss
Coastal Carolina
At LSU
Mississippi State
Missouri

Damn…how many games will Bielema win in his FIFTH season at Arkansas?

6….maybe 7 games…YEP that’s Arkansas Football folks!

Steve Addazio, Boston College vs. Central Michigan – It seems it’s just a matter of “when” Steve Addazio will get run out of Boston College BUT a loss to Central Michigan at home on Saturday to the already 1 – 3 Eagles would speed up “when” of the firing that’s for Damn sure!

How many games can Boston College really win in 2017?

Central Michigan
Virginia Tech
At Louisville
At Virginia
Florida State
NC State
UConn
At Syracuse

3…maybe 4 games tops?

YEP!

Mark Whipple, UMass vs. Ohio – Mark Whipple’s UMass team played well against Tennessee in Knoxville, but can they keep things rolling against Ohio on Saturday before facing a brutal schedule to finish the 2017 season?

At USF
Georgia Southern
Appalachian State
At Mississippi State
Maine
At BYU
At FIU

Hell…if you can play Tennessee into the 4 th quarter then you should be able to beat EVERY team left on the UMass schedule…right?

RIGHT!

Matt Rhule, Baylor vs. Kansas State – Even playing pretty well against Oklahoma the first year head coach at Baylor Matt Rhule has a Total Disaster brewing in Waco with an 0 – 4 record on the board and still having to play games against:

At Kansas State
At Oklahoma State
West Virginia
Texas
At Kansas
Texas Tech
Iowa State
At TCU

Baylor can probably win…1…maybe 2…maybe 3…games in 2017 but even 3 wins would be nothing short of an EPIC meltdown for Baylor Football from where it was just a couple of years ago!

Lance Leipold, Buffalo vs. Kent State – After a big win over FAU and Lane Kiffin in Week 4 Buffalo head coach Lance Leipold needs to keep things rolling Week 5 with a win at Kent State as they get the MAC Conference schedule going!

Paul Haynes, Kent State vs. Buffalo – Paul Haynes is now in his FIFTH season coaching the Kent State Golden Flashes and he has posted records of…

Overall:  13 – 38

MAC:  8 – 23

…and one would think that anything less than 6 wins in 2017 and the Haynes-era at Kent State will come to an end in late November which makes the 1 – 3 Flashes facing a MUST WIN Game over Buffalo on Saturday.

Todd Graham, Arizona State vs. Stanford – Todd Graham needing 8+ wins in 2017 to return to coach the Aztecs in 2018 got a MUST WIN over Oregon at home last week and now at 2 – 2 Graham MUST keep things rolling by beating Stanford on The Farm.

Can Arizona State win 6 of their last 8 games to save Todd Graham’s job?

At Stanford
Washington
At Utah
USC
Colorado
At UCLA
At Oregon State
Arizona

We would say…Not A Chance In Hell!

David Shaw, Stanford vs. Arizona State – David Shaw got his MUST WIN over UCLA in Week 4 and now here comes another MUST WIN Game on The Farm against Arizona State for the 2 – 2 Cardinal.

The expectations for Stanford Football are now 10+ wins a season and with two losses on the board that means The Cardinal needs to win out against…

Arizona State
At Utah
Oregon
At Oregon State
At Washington State
Washington
California
Notre Dame

That’s doesn’t look to hard to us…after all this is still Stanford Football….right?

RIGHT!

Sean Kugler, UTEP vs. Army – Sean Kugler is now in his FIFTH season as the head coach at UTEP and has posted records of…

Overall:  18 – 35

CUSA:  11 – 21

….and one can only wonder how long Kugler can survive especially considering a losing season in 2017 would be his THIRD straight losing season at the school. YES….beating Army is Very Damn Important and is a MUST WIN Game for Kugler and Miners!

Mark Stoops, Kentucky vs. Eastern Michigan – We cannot imagine Mark Stoops Kentucky team losing to Eastern Michigan at home BUT if for some reason the Wildcats didn’t show up against EMU…and that is the only way UK could lose this game…not showing up….and Kentucky lost this game Mark Stoops’ rear-end will be launched back onto the…

HOT SEAT

…in a major way! Don’t lose to Eastern Michigan Son!

Lane Kiffin, FAU vs. Middle Tennessee – For all those folks that knew all those points the Alabama offense was scoring when Lane Kiffin was the offensive coordinator at Bama was because Bozo the Clown could have coached the Incredibly-Rich in Talent Alabama football team to a Helluva lot of points they are like us not surprised to see Kiffin back on the Hot Seat for the first time since his ass got run by USC at the Los Angeles International Airport in September 2013.

After the loss to Buffalo Kiffin’s FAU team is now 1 – 3 on the season and still has to play games against….

Middle Tennessee
At Old Dominion
North Texas
At Western Kentucky
Marshall
At La. Tech
FIU
A Charlotte

….and if the Owls lose to Middle Tennessee on Saturday we foresee Kiffin’s ass being on the Hot Seat for the foreseeable future!

YES….Middle Tennessee is a MUST WIN Game for Lane Kiffin and FAU!

Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M vs. South Carolina – Life is really simple of Kevin Sumlin and his A&M coaching staff right now…they need 10 wins on the board after they play LSU on November 25 and now at 3 – 1 here is what the Aggies have left to play in 2017:

South Carolina
Alabama
At Florida
Mississippi State
Auburn
New Mexico
At Ole Miss
At LSU

Hell….lose to Alabama and win the rest of your games and Kevin Sumlin is in GREAT shape in College Station…that’s no problem….right Kevin?

Coach those Aggies up Son!

Will Muschamp, South Carolina vs. Texas A&M – Will Muschamp did a nice job getting his rear-end off the Hot Seat last season…BUT…lose to Texas A&M on Saturday to drop to 3 – 2 in 2017 with these games left to be played…

At Texas A&M
Arkansas
At Tennessee
Vanderbilt
At Georgia
Florida
Wofford
Clemson

…and we foresee the Hot Seat in Muschamp’s future if he can’t get back to at least 6 wins this season!

Jim Mora, UCLA vs. Colorado – With a $10M plus buyout if fired at the end of the year there are lots of folks that believe UCLA head coach Jim Mora is un-fireable, but we have been told by UCLA-alum friends that if the Bruins 2017 season “falls to pieces” Jim Mora’s ass will be “run right out of Westwood” and with that in mind UCLA now at 2 – 2 on the season and these games left to be played…

Colorado
At Arizona
Oregon
At Washington
At Utah
Arizona State
At USC
California

…if the Bruins lose to Colorado in the Rose Bowl on Saturday we see No Damn Chance for UCLA to win 6+ games in 2017 and we have to think with a 2 nd straight losing season BIG buyout or not the Jim Mora-era in Westwood will end shortly after Thanksgiving of this year!

And

And

“First, make yourself a reputation for being a creative genius. Second, surround yourself with partners who are better than you are. Third, leave them to go get on with it.”

And

“There are very few men of genius in advertising agencies. But we need all we can find. Almost without exception they are disagreeable. Don’t destroy them. They lay golden eggs.”

And

“Good copy can’t be written with tongue in cheek, written just for a living. You’ve got to believe in the product.”

2017 Post Week 4 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings – The Stanford QB Situation…Let K. J. Costello Be K. J. Costello and Don’t Turn Him Into A Clone! – Who Doesn’t Love the Great Johnny Cash?

Before we get to the Post Week 4 Coaches Hot Seat Ranking Analysis we first must throw out a few comments about the UCLA – Stanford game on Saturday night.

In our opinion if Stanford starting QB Keller Chryst does not get injured against UCLA on Saturday the Cardinal loses to a very Damn average Bruins team with Chryst being replaced by 3 rd string QB K. J. Costello who up to this point has not had enough reps in Stanford practices to have been turned into a Clone by the Cloner Stanford Football Coaches and now we are worried as Hell that the Cloners will turn their full attention to Costello in practice and turn Costello’s rear-end to a Clone as well! The reality is that two great Stanford QBs Andrew Luck and Kevin Hogan did in achieving great success did what K. J. Costello did so well against UCLA which was make plays moving around on the field and not standing like a stick-man in the backfield like Chryst tends to do, and if David Shaw and the Stanford coaches turn Costello into a stick-man then the Cardinal will have a Helluva time even winning 6 games in 2017 so let’s sure the Hell hope they don’t turn Costello into a…

Clone Stick-man

….because Stanford now at 2 – 2 on the season still has a tough schedule to navigate against:

Arizona State
At Utah
Oregon
At Oregon State
At Washington State
Washington
California
Notre Dame

Memo to David Shaw and Mike Bloomgren: Let E. J. Costello be E. J. Costello and stop the Damn Cloner Bullshit at the QB position Boys!

Week 4 was a good week for several head coaches on the Hot Seat but there were several coaches that put themselves into positions where they have very little margin for error in the rest of the 2017 season and with that mind let’s bring out the Great Johnny Cash to send a message to these Hot Seat coaches!

Thank You Johnny Cash!

2017 Post Week 4 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings

1.  Bret Bielema, Arkansas – It’s been a long time ago but a couple of Coaches Hot Seat members seem to remember a comment made by Bill Walsh when someone said that a…

“That coach has had bad luck because he is losing a lot of close games”

…to which Coach responded to by saying….

“Why in the Hell is that coach and team playing so many close games?”

The main problem with Bret Bielema at Arkansas is that in his 5 th year the school we don’t have a Damn clue what the Hogs offense is trying to do and the Hogs defense has changed so many times the past 5 seasons that it’s no surprise the players don’t play at any kind of consistent level especially at a level that a defense needs to play to compete and win in the SEC.

To give everyone some kind of perspective at how much Bret Bielema is underperforming at Arkansas look at former Hogs head coach Houston Nutt’s record at the school taking over an equal or worse disaster from Danny Ford (8 – 14 in his last two seasons at UA) than what Bielema inherited from Petrino/Smith:

Houston Nutt – 1998 – 2002

Overall:  39 – 23  (.629)

SEC:  22 – 18  (.550)

Bret Bielema – 2013 – 2017

Overall:  26 – 28  (.481)

SEC:  10 – 23  (.303)

If Bret Bielema and Arkansas won the remaining 9 games on their 2017 schedule to finish at 10 – 2 Bielema would still not even be at the level Houston Nutt posted after 5 seasons at the school and that should tell you all you need to know about how underachieving Bielema has been at Arkansas and with these games left to be played is there anyone that thinks the Hogs are winning out?

New Mexico State
At South Carolina
At Alabama
Auburn
At Ole Miss
Coastal Carolina
At LSU
Mississippi State
Missouri

Our guess based on the way that Arkansas has played under Bret Bielema over the past 54 games the Hogs win….

4 maybe 5 more games

….which at best would give Arkansas a 6 – 6 record in Bielema’s 5 th season in Fayetteville and luckily for Bret he is at a place that…

Celebrates and Pays A Helluva Lot of Money for Average or Worse!

2.  David Beaty, Kansas – David Beaty is in his 3 rd season as the head coach at Kansas and after the loss to West Virginia at home on Saturday he has posted records of….

Overall:  3 – 25

SEC:  1 – 18

…and if that is acceptable to the folks in the Great State of Kansas then…

Bless Their Hearts!

Kansas has games left to be played against…

Texas Tech
At Iowa State
At TCU
Kansas State
Baylor
At Texas
Oklahoma
At Oklahoma State

….and if the Jayhawks win another game in 2017 we will be SHOCKED not that we would be SHOCKED that the folks at Kansas will continue to…

Celebrate Way Damn Below Average

…because after all we are talking about the…

University of Kansas

…which is where…

Average or Worse Meets the Great American Plains!

3.  Mark Whipple, UMass – Mark Whipple and UMass played a solid game against a barely Damn awake Tennessee team in Knoxville on Saturday but another loss is another loss and in the last four seasons being back at the school Whipple has posted a record of…

8 – 33

….and the Minutemen still have to play this season these games:

Ohio
At USF
Georgia Southern
Appalachian State
At Mississippi State
Maine
At BYU
At FIU

UMass, even if they play like they did against the Vols, maybe have 1 or 2 wins on the board at the end of the season and if that is acceptable to the folks at UMass then why should we be mad at those folks for accepting…

Very Damn and even Below Average?

3.  Barry Odom, Missouri – Right now former Mizzou football player and grad Barry Odom is trending as the head coach at Mizzou into very dangerous territory with what looks like to us a football team coming apart at the seams at the exact moment with 16 games under Odom’s belt when the Tigers should be showing signs that Odom’s influence is starting to improve a team that went…

5 – 7

…in Gary Pinkel’s last year at the school in 2015.

Consider the below NCAA rankings among 129 teams for a moment when you also consider that Barry Odom was the defensive coordinator at Missouri and Memphis before taking over the head coaching job at Mizzou:

Total Defense:  107

Rushing Defense:  101

Scoring Defense:  122

Oh…Mizzou is averaging giving up….

40 points per game!

Hmmm…what exactly is going on at Mizzou right now is a Helluva question that we cannot answer since we don’t know any folks really close to the program but from the outside looking in watching the Tigers it’s our opinion…

Barry Odom is not getting anywhere near 100% from his players

…and maybe Odom realizes that and that is why he had that meltdown after getting his team’s ass whipped by Auburn on Saturday and if you are getting less than 100% effort from your players and still have to play the below games you are in a Helluva bad spot!

At Kentucky
At Georgia
Idaho
At UConn
Florida
Tennessee
At Vanderbilt
At Arkansas

What…Mizzou will win probably 3 games in Barry Odom’s second year at the school?

Not good…no make that a…Total Damn Disaster for Mizzou Football!

5.  Jim Mora, UCLA – Several of us at Coaches Hot Seat got to see Jim Mora’s UCLA Bruins up close the other night at the Stanford game and in our opinion it’s pretty easy to see why the Bruins are….

8 – 13

…in their last 21 games under Mora and that is because in our humble opinion…

UCLA is a poorly coached football team that is getting about 60% out of the talent on its roster

Why is that exactly?

We haven’t a Damn clue but from watching the UCLA sideline in the Stanford game we got a whiff of….

“Whatever the Hell happens it doesn’t really matter!”

….and now at 2 – 2 on the season which includes a win over Texas A&M in a game that the Bruins had no business winning UCLA still has left to play:

Colorado
At Arizona
Oregon
At Washington
At Utah
Arizona State
At USC
California

Our opinion…if UCLA plays like it did against Stanford in their remaining 8 games they will be Damn Lucky to win 4 games in 2017!

6.  Butch Jones, Tennessee – We are not quite sure what is going on at Tennessee because watching the UMass – Vols game it looked like the Tennessee players were playing hard against a severely overmatched UMass team which makes us wonder if we have reached the point where Butch Jones coaching is actually taking away from the Vols chance of success instead of adding to it and that goes right to the heart of successful coaching because EVERY coach should add to his players ability to win not taking away from it and the rest of 2017 will show if our opinion is right or not with these games still left on the board for the 3 – 1 Vols:

Georgia
South Carolina
At Alabama
At Kentucky
Southern Miss
At Missouri
LSU
Vanderbilt

Tennessee has plenty of talent to win 9 or 10 games in 2017 with FIVE remaining games at home and road games at Kentucky and at Missouri where the Vols will have a major advantage in talent but how many games will Tennessee win in 2017?

Our guess if they continue to play the way they have so far in 2017:

7 wins

If Tennessee only wins 7 games in 2017 the Vols will be looking for a new head football coach come December.

7.  Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M – With Kevin Sumlin needing 10+ wins in 2017 to return to coach the Aggies in 2018 he can only wish that he and his coaching staff didn’t totally mismanage the second half of the UCLA games because the Aggies would now be at…

4 – 0

…instead of 3 – 1 but with 3 wins on the board Sumlin still has a chance to get to 10 wins IF the Aggies win 7 of their last 8 games against:

South Carolina
Alabama
At Florida
Mississippi State
Auburn
New Mexico
At Ole Miss
At LSU

Good Luck with that Kevin Sumlin!

8.  Todd Graham, Arizona State – Maybe Todd Graham has figured out with an Arizona State defense that cannot stop ANYONE that the only way the Aztecs are going to win ANY football games is to score a Helluva lot of points and that is what ASU did against Oregon on Saturday scoring…

37 points

…and if Todd Graham is going to save his job he should tell his coaching staff our goal for each game left on the 2017 schedule is to score…

40+ points in EVERY game

…and with Graham needing 7 or 8 wins at least to return to coach the Aztecs in 2018 Arizona State has a chance to move to 3 – 2 with a win over Stanford on Saturday IF they can score 40+ points on The Farm!

How many of the below remaining games can Arizona State reasonably win?

At Stanford
Washington
At Utah
USC
Colorado
At UCLA
At Oregon State
Arizona

If they score 40+ points in all of the above games they can win 5+ games but if they score 30 or less points in each game….maybe 2 or 3 games…so there you go Todd Graham!

9.  Mike Riley, Nebraska – The word from our good and long-time Nebraska-alum friends in Omaha is that anything less than 10+ wins by Mike Riley in 2017 and the Huskers will be looking for a new head football coach in a couple of months and we have been told that potential coaches for Nebraska are already being vetted because the folks at the University of Nebraska know if they do have to make a coaching change this year they…

MUST find the right coach

…because another mediocre to bad hire which can be argued the Huskers have done every time save Frank Solich in the post-Tom Osborne years is what makes next hire at Nebraska so Damn critical!

Now at 2 – 2 on the season with these games left to be played for Mike Riley and Nebraska let’s see if the Huskers can get to 10 wins in 2017:

At Illinois
Wisconsin
Ohio State
At Purdue
Northwestern
At Minnesota
At Penn State
Iowa

We don’t see the Huskers winning out and you know what the Hell that means!

10.  Steve Addazio, Boston College – After the loss to Clemson on Saturday the win/loss numbers in Steve Addazio’s FIVE seasons at Boston College aren’t pretty…

Overall:  25 – 30

ACC:  10 – 23

….and one would think that anything less than 6 wins in 2017 and the Addazio-era will mercifully be brought to an end at BC.

Can Boston College win 5 of their last 8 games in 2017 with the below games remaining?

Central Michigan
Virginia Tech
At Louisville
At Virginia
Florida State
NC State
UConn
At Syracuse

Not a Chance in Hell or Boston!
