#2 Hot Seat – Jim Harbaugh – Michigan

Jim Harbaugh – No one has been more disappointed in what Jim Harbaugh has done at Michigan than the Stanford folks at Coaches Hot Seat who saw what Jimmy did on The Farm and fully expected Harbaugh to have Blue challenging and beating Ohio State on a regular basis by Jim’s 7 th season in Ann Arbor along with winning Big Ten Titles and National Championships by now!

Instead, going into Jim Harbaugh’s 7 th season Michigan is something like the 4th, 5th, or 6th best team in the Big Ten and is far behind the Buckeyes with little chance to beat Ohio State because the talent difference between the 2 programs has grown to Epic levels that will not soon be closed by Harbaugh or anyone else.

Jim Harbaugh is now sitting on records at Michigan of…

Overall:  49 – 22
Big Ten:  34 – 16

…which are Decent but Not Great records, but most alarming is Harbaugh’s record against .500+ record teams which now at…

26 – 22

That’s Not Good….In Fact at Michigan That’s a Damn Disaster!

In our opinion Jim Harbaugh will need 8+ wins in 2021 to return in 2022 season to coach Michigan and let’s go to Blue’s upcoming schedule >

Western Michigan
Washington
Northern Illinois
Rutgers
At Wisconsin
At Nebraska
Northwestern
At Michigan State
Indiana
At Penn State
At Maryland
Ohio State

Michigan and Harbaugh should be 4 – 0 to start the season and no worse than 5 – 2 when Blue travels to East Lansing to play at a Very Average Michigan State team on October 30.

In our opinion it would be a Total Travesty if Michigan isn’t at least 8 – 3 when Ohio State shows up in Ann Arbor on November 27 and since there’s little chance that Blue can beat this Bucks team Jimmy better be 8 – 3 when Ohio State comes calling 2 days after Thanksgiving!

Come on Jimmy….you can do better than 8 wins in your 7 th season at Michigan Son!

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Tuesday, August 31, 2021 – Andrew Grove

“Leaders have to act more quickly today. The pressure comes much faster.”

And

“Success breeds complacency. Complacency breeds failure. Only the paranoid survive.”

And

“So give me a turbulent world as opposed to a quiet world and I’ll take the turbulent one.”

And

“There is at least one point in the history of any company when you have to change dramatically to rise to the next level of performance. Miss that moment – and you start to decline.”

And

“It’s not enough to make time for your children. There are certain stages in their lives when you have to give them the time when they want it. You can’t run your family like a company. It doesn’t work.”

And

“A fundamental rule in technology says that whatever can be done will be done.”

And

“A corporation is a living organism; it has to continue to shed its skin. Methods have to change. Focus has to change. Values have to change. The sum total of those changes is transformation.”

And

“You have to pretend you’re 100 percent sure. You have to take action; you can’t hesitate or hedge your bets. Anything less will condemn your efforts to failure.”

And

“Stressing output is the key to improving productivity, while looking to increase activity can result in just the opposite.”

And

“Our biggest competition in achieving our ambitions, … is a television set.”

And

“Technology happens, it’s not good, it’s not bad. Is steel good or bad?”

And

And

“Strategic changes doesn’t just start at the top. It starts with your calender”

And

“The person who is the star of previous era is often the last one to adapt to change, the last one to yield to logic of a strategic inflection point and tends to fall harder than most.”

And

“If you’re wrong, you will die. But most companies don’t die because they are wrong; most die because they don’t commit themselves. They fritter away their valuable resources while attempting to make a decision. The greatest danger is in Standing still”

“It’s harder to be the best of class in several fields than in just one”

And

“How can you motivate yourself to continue to follow a leader when he appears to be going around in circles?”

And

“A strategic inflection point is a time in the life of business when its fundamentals are about to change. that change can mean an opportunity to rise to new heights. But it may just as likely signal the beginning of the end”

And

“As we throw ourselves into raw actions, our senses and instincts will rapidly be honed again”

And

“Just as you would not permit a fellow employee to steal a piece of office equipment worth $2,000, you shouldn’t let anyone walk away with the time of his fellow managers.”

“Bad companies are destroyed by crisis, Good companies survive them, Great companies are improved by them.”

And

“You need to try to do the impossible, to anticipate the unexpected. And when the unexpected happens, you should double the efforts to make order from the disorder it creates in your life. The motto I’m advocating is — Let chaos reign, then rein chaos. Does that mean that you shouldn’t plan? Not at all. You need to plan the way a fire department plans. It cannot anticipate fires, so it has to shape a flexible organization that is capable of responding to unpredictable events.”

And

“I think it is very important for you to do two things: act on your temporary conviction as if it was a real conviction; and when you realize that you are wrong, correct course very quickly”

The 15th Season of Coaches Hot Seat Covering College Football! – #1 Hot Seat – Scott Frost – Nebraska – Let’s Play Football!

So begins the 15 th season of Coaches Hot Seat covering the Great Game of College Football here in the 2021 season and as has been the custom since we cranked this thing up in 2007 we ask the Late Great Johnny Cash to come out and give these Hot Seat Coaches Hell!

Thanks Johnny!

Post Week Zero Coaches Hot Seat Rankings

In 2021 we are going to do shorter blog posts on individual Head Coaches and their current situation either after the past weekend’s game or just before the coming week’s games and with that in mind we start the 2021 season with what was nothing short of a Complete and Total Disaster for Nebraska Football this past Saturday against Illinois and for one Scott Frost….

#1 Hot Seat – Scott Frost – Nebraska

Since Scott Frost began his college career at Stanford in 1993 – 1994 before transferring to play for Nebraska in his home state this is very personal for us, and we don’t want to see Frost on the Hot Seat but what in the Hell are you going to do when a Nebraska Head Coach is sitting on records of…

Overall:  12 – 21

Big Ten:  9 – 18

…in his fourth season on the job in Lincoln?

The Nebraska football team we watched play against an Illinois team with a new head coach in Bret Bielema, who got his ass run out of the SEC, was little different…some here will argue worse…than the Nebraska football program that Frost took over in 2018 which went 4 – 8 in Mike Riley’s last and third year on the job in Lincoln in 2017.

Most shocking of all the numbers we have looked at in Scott Frost’s time at Nebraska is his Win/Loss Record against teams with .500+ record which is now at…wait for it…

3 – 17

The above means that 75% of Scott Frost’s wins have come from teams with sub .500 records!

Now at 0 – 1 with these games left to play in 2021….

Fordham
Buffalo
At Oklahoma
At Michigan State
Northwestern
Michigan
At Minnesota
Purdue
Ohio State
At Wisconsin
Iowa

….we will give Nebraska and Frost the next 2 wins and then a loss at OU which will see the Huskers travel to East Lansing on September 25 with a record of….

2 – 2

Nebraska has Equal or Better Talent on their Roster than…

Michigan State
Northwestern
Michigan
Minnesota
Purdue

…so by all rights the Huskers should have a good chance of getting to 6 wins in 2021 which in our opinion is the MINIMUM number of wins that Scott Frost needs to return to coach Nebraska in 2022.

And with that we are off and running for the 2021 College Football Season and we encourage everyone to Get Vaccinated and Be Safe Out There and no doubt we will see a number of you a College Football Games this Fall because we will have half-dozen or so Coaches Hot Seat folks attending 2 to 4 CFB Games each week and we cannot wait to get back on the road after sitting on our asses at home in 2020!

Let’s Play Football!

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Sunday, August 29, 2021 – Leonardo da Vinci

“Necessity is the mistress and guide of nature.”

And

“Every action needs to be prompted by a motive. To know and to will are two operations of the human mind. Discerning, judging, deliberating are acts of the human mind.”

And

“Experience, the interpreter between formative nature and the human race, teaches how that nature acts among mortals; and being constrained by necessity cannot act otherwise than as reason, which is its helm, requires her to act.”

And

“The acquisition of any knowledge is always of use to the intellect, because it may thus drive out useless things and retain the good. For nothing can be loved or hated unless it is first known.”

And

“That is not riches, which may be lost; virtue is our true good and the true reward of its possessor. That cannot be lost; that never deserts us, but when life leaves us. As to property and external riches, hold them with trembling; they often leave their possessor in contempt, and mocked at for having lost them.”

And

“It is easier to contend with evil at the first than at the last.”

And

“He who walks straight rarely falls.”

And

“Men will seem to see new destructions in the sky. The flames that fall from it will seem to rise in it and to fly from it with terror. They will hear every kind of animals speak in human language. They will instantaneously run in person in various parts of the world, without motion. They will see the greatest splendour in the midst of darkness. O! marvel of the human race! What madness has led you thus! You will speak with animals of every species and they with you in human speech. You will see yourself fall from great heights without any harm and torrents will accompany you, and will mingle with their rapid course.”

And

“Men standing in opposite hemispheres will converse and deride each other and embrace each other, and understand each other’s language.”

And

“It vexes me greatly that having to earn my living has forced me to interrupt the work and to attend to small matters.”

And

“He who does not value life does not deserve it.”

And

“As a well-spent day brings happy sleep, so a life well spent brings happy death.”

And

“Beyond a doubt truth bears the same relation to falsehood as light to darkness.”

And

“He who loves practice without theory is like the sailor who boards ship without a rudder and compass and never knows where he may cast.”

And

“He who wishes to be rich in a day will be hanged in a year.”

And

“I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.”

And

“I have offended God and mankind because my work didn’t reach the quality it should have.”

And

“Learning never exhausts the mind.”

And

“It is easier to resist at the beginning than at the end.”

And

“Necessity is the mistress and guardian of Nature.”

And

“The earth is not in the centre of the Sun’s orbit nor at the centre of the universe, but in the centre of its companion elements, and united with them. And any one standing on the moon, when it and the sun are both beneath us, would see this our earth and the element of water upon it just as we see the moon, and the earth would light it as it lights us.”

And

“The motive power is the cause of all life.”

And

“Every action needs to be prompted by a motive. To know and to will are two operations of the human mind. Discerning, judging, deliberating are acts of the human mind.”

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Saturday, August 28, 2021 – Vince Lombardi

“There’s only one way to succeed in anything, and that is to give it everything. I do, and I demand that my players do.”

And

“If you aren’t fired with enthusiasm, you’ll be fired with enthusiasm.”

And

“Mental toughness is essential to success.”

And

“You never win a game unless you beat the guy in front of you. The score on the board doesn’t mean a thing. That’s for the fans. You’ve got to win the war with the man in front of you. You’ve got to get your man.”

And

“To achieve success, whatever the job we have, we must pay a price.”

And

“Success is like anything worthwhile. It has a price. You have to pay the price to win and you have to pay the price to get to the point where success is possible. Most important, you must pay the price to stay there.”

And

“Football is a great deal like life in that it teaches that work, sacrifice, perseverance, competitive drive, selflessness and respect for authority is the price each and every one of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.”

And

“Once you agree upon the price you and your family must pay for success, it enables you to ignore the minor hurts, the opponent’s pressure, and the temporary failures.”

And

“Confidence is contagious and so is lack of confidence, and a customer will recognize both.”

And

“If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.”

And

“Unless a man believes in himself and makes a total commitment to his career and puts everything he has into it-his mind, his body and his heart-what is life worth to him? If I were a salesman, I would make this commitment to my company, to the product and most of all, to myself.”

And

“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.”

And

“Once a man has made a commitment to a way of life, he puts the greatest strength in the world behind him. It’s something we call heart power. Once a man has made this commitment, nothing will stop him short of success.”

And

“Unless a man believes in himself and makes a total commitment to his career and puts everything he has into it-his mind, his body, his heart-what’s life worth to him.

And

“It is essential to understand that battles are primarily won in the hearts of men.”

And

“In great attempts, it is glorious even to fail.”

And

“They may not love you at the time, but they will later.”

And

” Leadership rests not only upon ability, not only upon capacity; having the capacity to lead is not enough. The leader must be willing to use it. His leadership is then based on truth and character. There must be truth in the purpose and will power in the character.”

And

“Leadership is based on a spiritual quality; the power to inspire, the power to inspire others to follow.”

And

“Having the capacity to lead is not enough. The leader must be willing to use it.”

And

“A leader must identify himself with the group, must back up the group, even at the risk of displeasing superiors. He must believe that the group wants from him a sense of approval. If this feeling prevails, production, discipline, morale will be high, and in return, you can demand the cooperation to promote the goals of the company.”

And

“Leaders are made, they are not born. They are made by hard effort, which is the price which all of us must pay to achieve any goal that is worthwhile.”

And

“They call it coaching but it is teaching. You do not just tell them…you show them the reasons.”

And

“The harder you work, the harder it is to surrender.”

And

“The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will.”

“The spirit, the will to win and the will to excel-these are the things that endure and these are the qualities that are so much more important than any of the events that occasion them.”

And

“It is essential to understand that battles are primarily won in the hearts of men. Men respond to leadership in a most remarkable way and once you have won his heart, he will follow you anywhere.”

And

“A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.”

And

“If you’ll not settle for anything less than your best, you will be amazed at what you can accomplish in your lives.

And

“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get up.”

And

“The good Lord gave you a body that can stand most anything. It’s your mind you have to convince.”

And

“Mental toughness is many things and rather difficult to explain. Its qualities are sacrifice and self-denial. Also, most importantly, it is combined with a perfectly disciplined will that refuses to give in. It’s a state of mind-you could call it character in action.”

And

“Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit.”

And

“Individual commitment to a group effort-that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.”

And

“Winning is not everything–but making effort to win is.”

And

“It’s easy to have faith in yourself and have discipline when you’re a winner, when you’re number one. What you’ve got to have is faith and discipline when you’re not yet a winner.”

And
