Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Saturday, November 21, 2015 – San Francisco

SF1

“San Francisco is a mad city – inhabited for the most part by perfectly insane people whose women are of a remarkable beauty.” Rudyard Kipling

And

“I hope I go to Heaven, and when I do, I’m going to do what every San Franciscan does when he gets there. He looks around and says, ‘It ain’t bad, but it ain’t San Francisco.'” Herb Caen

And

“Anyone who doesn’t have a great time in San Francisco is pretty much dead to me.” Anthony Bourdain

And

“A city is where you can sign a petition, boo the chief justice, fish off a pier, gaze at a hippopotamus, buy a flower at the corner, or get a good hamburger or a bad girl at 4 A.M. A city is where sirens make white streaks of sound in the sky and foghorns speak in dark grays. San Francisco is such a city.” Herb Caen

And

“San Francisco is gone. Nothing remains of it but memories.” Jack London

And

“San Francisco has always been my favorite booing city. I don’t mean the people boo louder or longer, but there is a very special intimacy. When they boo you, you know they mean you. Music, that’s what it is to me. One time in Kezar Stadium they gave me a standing boo.” George Halas

And

“I grew up in Marin County north of San Francisco, and in the 1950s and ’60s it was a natural paradise.” Huey Lewis

And

“You know what I like about San Francisco? The women are beautiful, fashionable and smart. San Francisco is one of the only cities I like to visit. I love New York and Chicago – I studied there, and L.A. has the same people as New York.” LeRoy Neiman

And

“You know what it is? San Francisco is a golden handcuff with the key thrown away.” John Steinbeck

And

“San Franciscans are very proud of their city, and they should be. It’s the most beautiful place in the world.” Robert Redford

And

“If you’re alive, you can’t be bored in San Francisco. If you’re not alive, San Francisco will bring you to life.” William Saroyan

And

“San Francisco is 49 square miles surrounded by reality.” Paul Kantner

And

“The ultimate (travel destination) for me would be one perfect day in San Francisco. It’s a perfect 72 degrees, clear, the sky bright blue. I’d start down at Fisherman’s Wharf with someone I really like and end with a romantic dinner and a ride over the Golden Gate Bridge. There’s no city like it anywhere. And, if I could be there with the girl of my dreams, that would be the ultimate.” Larry King

And

“Leaving San Francisco is like saying goodbye to an old sweetheart. You want to linger as long as possible.” Walter Kronkite

And

“What fetched me instantly (and thousands of other newcomers with me) was the subtle but unmistakeable sense of escape from the United States.” H.L. Mencken

And

“Every man should be allowed to love two cities, his own and San Francisco.” Gene Fowler

And

“God took the beauty of the Bay of Naples, the Valley of the Nile, the Swiss Alps, the Hudson River Valley, rolled them into one and made San Francisco Bay.” Fiorello La Guardia

And

“I don’t think San Francisco needs defending. I never meet anyone who doesn’t love the place, Americans or others.” Doris Lessing

And

” I don’t like San Francisco. I love it!” Dorothy Lamour

And

“I like the fog that creeps over the whole city every night about five, and the warm protective feeling it gives…and lights of San Francisco at night, the fog horn, the bay at dusk and the little flower stands where spring flowers appear before anywhere else in the country…But, most of all, I like the view of the ocean from the Cliff House.” Irene Dunne

And

“We’re crazy about this city. First time we came here, we walked the streets all day – all over town – and nobody hassled us. People smiled, friendly-like, and we knew we could live here……Los Angeles? That’s just a big parking lot where you buy a hamburger for a trip to San Francisco……And the beautiful old houses and the strange light. We’ve never been in a city with light like this. We sit in our hotel room for hours, watching the fog come in, the light change.” John Lennon and Yoko Ono

And

“Cities are like gentlemen, they are born, not made. You are either a city, or you are not, size has nothing to do with it. I bet San Francisco was a city from the very first time it had a dozen settlers. New York is “Yokel”, but San Francisco is “City at Heart”.” Will Rogers

And

“San Francisco is one of the great cultural plateaus of the world — one of the really urbane communities in the United States — one of the truly cosmopolitan places and for many, many years, it always has had a warm welcome for human beings from all over the world.” Duke Ellington

And

“I have always been rather better treated in San Francisco than I actually deserved.” Mark Twain

And

“It’s an odd thing, but anyone who disappears is said to be seen in San Francisco. It must be a delightful city and possess all the attractions of the next world.” Oscar Wilde

And

“Money lives in New York. Power sits in Washington. Freedom sips Cappuccino in a sidewalk cafe in San Francisco.” Joe Flower

And

“I’m proud to have been a Yankee. But I have found more happiness and contentment since I came back home to San Francisco than any man has a right to deserve. This is the friendliest city in the world.” Joe DiMaggio

And

“Chicago is the great American city, New York is one of the capitals of the world, and Los Angeles is a constellation of plastic; San Francisco is a lady” Norman Mailer,

And

“You wouldn’t think such a place as San Francisco could exist. The wonderful sunlight there, the hills, the great bridges, the Pacific at your shoes. Beautiful Chinatown. Every race in the world. The sardine fleets sailing out. The little cable-cars whizzing down The City hills~. And all the people are open and friendly.” Dylan Thomas

And

“The coldest winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco.” Mark Twain

12 College Football Head Coaches Facing CANNOT LOSE Games In Week TWELVE – “They got a name for the winners in the world….I want a name when I lose…they call Alabama the Crimson Tide….call me Deacon Blues…Deacon Blues.”

“They got a name for the winners in the world….I want a name when I lose…they call Alabama the Crimson Tide….call me Deacon Blues…Deacon Blues.”

Enjoy the GREAT Steely Dan performing Deacon Blues!

For the folks here at Coaches Hot Seat there is one clear leader for Head Coaches that CANNOT LOSE in Week 12 and that is of course….

1.  David Shaw, Stanford

NCAA Football: Wake Forest at Stanford

…who for Damn sure CANNOT LOSE to Cal on Saturday night on The Farm because losing the Big Game is just flat-out…

Un-Damn Acceptable!

With a win in the Big Game Stanford will have qualified for its…

THIRD Pac-12 Title Game Appearance in FOUR Seasons

…and would play the Pac-12 South Champion for the Pac-12 Conference Championship which if won would be Stanford Football’s…

THIRD Pac-12 Title in FOUR Seasons

….which would be a Mighty Damn Impressive run indeed for Stanford Football but then none of that happens unless Stanford BEATS Cal to win the…

BIG GAME!

StanfordFootballStad181881

Stanford Football has won FIVE straight Big Games against Cal and 6 of the last 9 so why in the Hell not make it…

SIX Straight Big Games

AND

7 of the last 10 Big Games

…..and we can keep this….

…where it belongs which is on The Farm in Stanford, California!

Stanford1818181Axw

Go Stanford BEAT Cal!

LesMiles811818

2.  Les Miles, LSU vs. Ole Miss – For all the people that scoff at the idea that Les Miles could be on the Hot Seat or only a loss from Ole Miss from being run out of Baton Rouge let us all remember that we are talking about…

LSU Football

….here where Bozo the Clown could win…

8 Games A Year EASY

….and where for Damn sure the head coach better…

Split the series with Alabama at least

…and what is Les Miles’ record against Alabama in the last 10 meetings against the Crimson Tide?

3 – 7

Sorry…3 – 7 against Alabama not only doesn’t feed the bulldog at LSU it will get your ass run out of town and very simply….

If LSU loses to Ole Miss on Saturday we would recommend that Les Miles agent start inquiring about other head coaching jobs…maybe in Big Ten Country…because it will be…..

….for Les Miles at LSU!

HughFreeze8181919

3.  Hugh Freeze, Ole Miss vs. LSU – On the flipside of the LSU – Ole Miss game on Saturday a loss by the Rebels would drop the Ole Miss record to 7 – 4 on the season with still a game at Mississippi State and a loss to LSU and Hugh Freeze will wake-up on Monday morning with his rear-end on the….

Hot Seat

….and with a loss to Mississippi State also to finish at 7 – 5 or 3 – 5 in the Rebels last 8 games Hugh Freeze will in late November find his rear-end on a…

Roaring Hot Seat!

Our recommendation to Les Miles AND Hugh Freeze: Neither of you can afford to lose this game boys so coach HARD!

KevinSumlin1818181

4.  Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M vs. Vanderbilt – When you are making $5 Million Dollars a year playing your home games in a PALACE which is the case for Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin your ass better be…

Winning A Helluva Lot of Football Games

….and in his FOURTH season coaching the Aggies Kevin Sumlin is now sitting on a record in SEC play of….

16 – 14

….and if A&M loses to Vanderbilt on Saturday and LSU in the last game to finish at….

7 – 5 overall

3 – 5 in SEC play

….in 2015 we would recommend Kevin Sumlin have another job lined-up because he might not make it back to College Station from Baton Rough still the head coach of the….

Texas A&M Fighting Aggies!

GusMalzahn11818

5.  Gus Malzahn, Auburn vs. Idaho – Oh this one’s pretty simple to figure out….

If for some CRAZY reason that Auburn lost to Idaho on Saturday with the Tigers something like 34 point favorites over the Vandals

….Gus Malzahn will be fired before the clock strikes Midnight on The Plains and Will Muschamp would be coaching Auburn in the Iron Bowl BUT since there is little chance in Hell of Idaho beating Auburn….right?….this is all kind of silly….but then….Idaho might just give FCS Jacksonville State a good game AND Jacksonville State took Auburn into overtime earlier this season…..Hmmmmm…..Oh Hell let’s not even consider Auburn losing to Idaho BUT if it happens Gus Malzahn will need….

Boxes…Lots of Damn Moving Boxes….and in a Helluva hurry!

MarkRicht818181

6.  Mark Richt, Georgia vs. Georgia Southern – Although many here at Coaches Hot Seat were raised in what would be called “secular” homes today meaning we were usually playing golf or some other sport on Sunday mornings instead of sitting in a church pew which our fathers to man detested because they did not enjoy being told how to live their lives by other people our parents made Damn sure we had a good grounding in religious history because it’s impossible for someone to understand world history without the religions that played a major role in helping to make-up what human beings are today.

With the above being said with Mark Richt being a “good Christian man” we are confident Mark understands as we do the basic tenets of the “trials and tribulations” that goes hand-in-hand of being a Christian which basically boils down to this:

Life isn’t fair and it’s often cruel and instead of crying about life not being fair or trying to make excuses for a tough predicament Christians understand that “trials and tribulations” that human beings go through make them tougher and help create important traits inside of human beings including perseverance and character and in the end…Hope….the hope that what one has learned when going through the “trials and tribulations” will provide hope for a better future while becoming a tougher person for when those “trials and tribulations” show up again…as they always do in this thing we call life.

BillWalsh71818

It’s not just Christians that are very public about their faith that think in the above way because one of our favorite quotes by Coach Bill Walsh is….

“When you stand and overcome a significant setback, you’ll find an increasing inner confidence and self-assurance that has been created by conquering defeat. Absorbing and overcoming this kind of punishment engenders a sober, steely toughness that results in a hardened sense of independence and a personal belief that you can take on anything, survive and win.”

….which no doubt flows straight from the Judeo-Christian ideas and beliefs that form a major bedrock of the American Republic and getting back to Mark Richt we have a sneaking suspicion here at Coaches Hot Seat that Mark rather enjoys having his ass roasted from time-to-time by us here at Coaches Hot Seat because it reminds him in his very blessed life that….

Life isn’t fair and there is a Helluva lot to be learned by going through tough times

…which brings us to the Georgia Southern – Georgia game on Saturday and the reality that IF Mark Richt loses this game….

His rear-end will be climbing the Coaches Hot Seat Rankings AGAIN!

….which we have a sneaking suspicion brings a smile to Mark Richt’s face…not going up the Coaches Hot Seat Rankings mind you…but that he has yet another “trial and tribulation” to fight through!

Good Luck against Georgia Southern Mark!

BretBielema188181

7.  Bret Bielema, Arkansas vs. Mississippi State – To show how wide the swing could have been on the Arkansas season in 2015 the Razorbacks could be sitting on records of….

9 – 1

OR

2 – 8

….right now and with a record of 6 – 4 on the board and with these two games left to play….

Mississippi State
Missouri

….it’s Very Damn Important for Bret Bielema and Arkansas to win these last TWO games at home because improvement on their 6 – 6 record in 2014 is paramount and beating Mississippi State in this spot would give Arkansas a leg-up in the SEC West and a lot of momentum heading into their last game of the year against Missouri.

SteveAddazio1181818

8.  Steve Addazio, Boston College vs. Notre Dame – Is there a chance in Hell the 16-point underdogs Boston College Eagles can beat the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Fenway Park on Saturday?

No…not a chance in Heaven or Hell in our opinion and with a loss Steve Addazio will be in his own little Hell with BC on a SEVEN game losing streak and with only wins on the board against…

Maine
Howard
Northern Illinois

Oh..with a loss on Saturday to Notre Dame Steve Addazio’s overall record in THREE seasons at Boston College would drop to…

17 – 20

….and that is the kind of record that can get your ass fired….in our humble opinion of course!

DanaHolgorsen17171

9.  Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia vs. Kansas – We don’t give the Kansas Jayhawks much chance to beat Crazy Boy Dana Holgorsen’s West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday BUT if KU did win this game to drop WVU’s record in 2015 to….

5 – 5

….with still games left for West Virginia against…

Iowa State
At Kansas State

….things could get mighty Damn interesting in Morgantown BUT now…

No Damn way that West Virginia loses to Kansas….right?

Crazy Boy Dana Holgorsen better hope the Hell not!

KevinWilson77-393x530

10.  Kevin Wilson, Indiana vs. Maryland – After opening with FOUR straight wins to start the season Kevin Wilson’s Hoosiers are now sitting on a record of…

4 – 6

…with only games left against…

At Maryland
Purdue

….and if Kevin Wilson is EVER going to get Indiana to a .500 record and a bowl game then this is the year because Maryland with an already fired head coach and Purdue in Total and Complete Disarray there really is….

No Damn Excuse for Indiana to NOT win its last TWO Games

….so come on Kevin Wilson….

Bring these TWO wins home son!

ToddGraham81818

11.  Todd Graham, Arizona State vs. Arizona – What is that famous Winston Churchill quote….

“Nothing in life is so exhilarating as to be shot at without result.”

….which must be how Todd Graham felt after the Washington game last week after falling behind early to UW when it looked like it might be ANOTHER loss for the Sun Devils for awhile which would have dropped ASU’s record to…

4 – 6

…with still games left against Arizona and at California BUT Arizona State did beat Washington and now the Devils are…

5 – 5

…with games left against Arizona and at California BUT if Todd Graham’s football team happened to lose to Arizona and then at California…..Oh…..

Todd Graham’s ass would be on a ROARING HOT SEAT come late November!

Uhhh….don’t lose to Arizona Todd Graham!

KyleFlood821818

12.  Kyle Flood, Rutgers vs. Army – We don’t think there’s much chance Rutgers could lose to a below average Army team that just lost at home to Tulane BUT if Rutgers did lose in this spot….in our opinion…

The Kyle Flood-era at Rutgers would be over

…..thus why Army is a CANNOT LOSE Game for Kyle Flood as is the last game of the season against Maryland.

In our humble opinion of course!

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Friday, November 20, 2015 – Bill Walsh

We miss you Coach Walsh.  Go Stanford BEAT Cal!

BillWalsh888181

BillWalsh811888

Bill Walsh’s Five Don’ts

“1. Don’t ask, “Why me?”

2. Don’t expect sympathy.

3. Don’t bellyache.

4. Don’t keep accepting condolences.

5. Don’t blame others.”

And

“If you see players who hate practice, their coach isn’t doing a very good job.”

And

“The absolute bottom line in coaching is organization and preparing for practice.”

And

“A resolute and resourceful leader understands that there are a multitude of means to increase the probability of success. And that’s what it all comes down to, namely, intelligently and relentlessly seeking solutions that will increase your chance of prevailing in a competitive environment. When you do that, the score will take care of itself.”

And

“I’ve observed that if individuals who prevail in a highly competitive environment have any one thing in common besides success, it is failure—and their ability to overcome it.”

And

“The ability to help the people around me self-actualize their goals underlines the single aspect of my abilities and the label that I value most—teacher.”

And

“Failure is part of success, an integral part. Everybody gets knocked down. Knowing it will happen and what you must do when it does is the first step back.”

And

“When you stand and overcome a significant setback, you’ll find an increasing inner confidence and self-assurance that has been created by conquering defeat. Absorbing and overcoming this kind of punishment engenders a sober, steely toughness that results in a hardened sense of independence and a personal belief that you can take on anything, survive and win.”

And

“Great players and great companies don’t suddenly start hunching up, grimacing, and trying to “hit the ball harder” at a critical point. Rather, they’re in a mode, a zone in which they’re performing and depending on their “game,” which they’ve mastered over many months and years of intelligently directed hard work. There’s only so much thinking you can isolate and focus on during that kind of extreme competitive pressure. It has to be tactical more than a conscious effort to really “try harder.” You just want to function very well, up to your potential, effortlessly—do what you already know how to do at the level of excellence you’ve acquired—whether in making a presentation or coaching a game or anything else.”

And

“Everybody’s got an opinion. Leaders are paid to make a decision. The difference between offering an opinion and making a decision is the difference between working for the leader and being the leader.”

And

“We all have in our mind inspiring examples of individuals who persevered beyond the point of reason and common sense and prevailed. We tend to ignore the more numerous examples of individuals who persisted and persisted and finally failed and took everybody down with them because they would not change course or quit. We ignore them because we never heard about them.”

And

“You must be the best version of yourself that you can be; stay within the framework of your own personality and be authentic. If you’re faking it, you’ll be found out.”

And

“The trademark of a well-led organization in sports or business is that it’s virtually self-sustaining and self-directed—almost autonomous. To put it in a more personal way, if your staff doesn’t seem fully mobilized and energized until you enter the room, if they require your presence to carry on at the level of effort and excellence you have tried to install, your leadership has not percolated down.”

And

“Strong leaders don’t plead with individuals to perform.”

And

“Make each person in your employ very aware that his or her well-being has a high priority with the organization and that the well-being of the organization must be his or her highest professional priority.”

And

“The highest-paid, most talented people that you can go out and hire will not perform to their potential unless they feel as if they are part of something special—a family that treats them right.”

And

“It was always my goal to create and maintain a working environment both on and off the field that had a sense of urgency and intensity but did not feel like we were in constant crisis mode.”

And

“In evaluating people, I prize ego. It often translates into a fierce desire to do their best and an inner confidence that stands them in good stead when things really get rough. Psychologists suggest that there is a strong link between ego and competitiveness. All the great performers I’ve ever coached had ego to spare.”

And

“Extra effort,” in whatever form it takes (mental, physical, emotional), cannot be sustained without eventual damage and diminishing returns. There has to be a very acute awareness on your part as to the level of exertion and the toll it’s taking on those you lead.”

And

“By instinct we—leaders—want to run hard all the time; by intellect we know this is not possible. Reconciling those two positions in the context of leadership is an ongoing challenge.”

And

“Concentrate on what will produce results rather than on the results, the process rather than the prize.”

And

“Clear thinking and overly charged emotions are usually antithetical.”

And

“People matter most—more than equipment, investors, inventions, momentum, or X’s and O’s. People are at the heart of achieving organizational greatness.”

And

“Afford each person the same respect, support, and fair treatment you would expect if your roles were reversed. Deal with people individually, not as objects who are part of a herd—that’s the critical factor.”

And

“If you care about how you’re perceived by others, including the public, it’s good to remember the following: Criticism—both deserved and undeserved—is part of the territory when you’re the one calling the shots. Ignore the undeserved; learn from the deserved; lick your wounds and move on.”

And

“Calculated risks are part of what you do, but the idea that something completely crazy will work just because it’s completely crazy is completely crazy.”

And

“One of the common traits of outstanding performers—coaches, athletes, managers, sales representatives, executives, and others who face a daily up/down, win/lose accounting system—is that a rejection, that is, defeat, is quickly forgotten, replaced eagerly by pursuit of a new order, client, or opponent.”

And

“Nothing is more effective than sincere, accurate praise, and nothing is more lame than a cookie-cutter compliment.”

And

“If you are worthy of emulation, you have left an unbelievable legacy. He was a great coach, a great friend, and I’m going to miss him terribly.” Former coach Dick Vermeil at Coach Bill Walsh Memorial Service

And

“I came to the San Francisco 49ers with a specific goal – to implement what I call the Standard of Performance. It was a way of doing things, a leadership philosophy, that has as much to do with core values, principles, and ideals as with blocking, tackling, and passing; more to do with the mental than with the physical.”

And

“The culture precedes positive results. It doesn’t get tacked on as an afterthought on your way to the victory stand. Champions behave like champions before they’re champions: they have a winning standard of performance before they are winners.”

And

“For me, the road had been rocky at times, triumphant too, but along the way I had never wavered in my dedication to installing – teaching – those actions and attitudes I believed would create a great team, a superior organization. I knew that if I achieved that, the score would take care of itself.”

And

“For me the starting point for everything – before strategy, tactics, theories, managing, organizing, philosophy, methodology, talent, or experience – is work ethic. Without one of significant magnitude you’re dead in the water, finished. I knew the example I set as head coach would be what others in the organization would recognize as the standard they needed to match (at least, most of them would recognize it). If there is such a thing as a trickle-down effect, that’s it. Your staff sees your devotion to work, their people see them, and on through the organization.”

And

“In building and maintaining your organization, place a premium on those who exhibit great desire to keep pushing themselves to higher and higher performance and production levels, who seek to go beyond the highest standards that you, the leader, set. The employee who gets to work early, stays late, fights through illness and personal problems is the one to keep your eye on for greater responsibilities.”

And

“All successful leaders know where we want to go, figure out a way we believe will get the organization there, and then move forward with absolute determination. We may falter from time to time, but ultimately we are unswerving in moving toward our goal; we will not quit. There is an inner compulsion – obsession – to get it done the way you want it done.”

And

“Victory is produced by and belongs to all. Winning a Super Bowl results from you whole team not only doing their individual jobs but perceiving that those jobs contributed to overall success. The trophy doesn’t belong just to a superstar quarterback or CEO, head coach or top salesperson. This is an essential lesson I taught the San Francisco organization: The offensive team is not a country unto itself, nor is the defensive team or the special teams, staff, coaches, or anyone in the organization separate from the fate of the organization. WE are united and fight as one; we win or lose as one.”

Four Leadership Tips From Bill Walsh from…

The Score Takes Care of Itself:  My Philosophy of Leadership, Amazon.com

1. Making The Best Of What You Have

“What assets do we have right now that we’re not taking advantage of?”

E.g: Walsh took inventory of his Bengals’ struggling offense which was undersized (meaning running the ball was a big challenge) and not capable of passing for long yardage (quarterback Virgil Carter could not throw very far) (though he could throw decently for short yardage).

Walsh then took stock of what he had to work with in terms of field real estate and had an uh-huh realization that they had 53.5 yards of width on the field (about half the distance of the length of the field) and the availability of 5 potential receivers.

Thus the West Coast Offense was born: the idea of throwing more often, to more receivers, for short yardage.

2. Good Leaders Give a Healthy Mix of Positive Criticism (not just negative/constructive criticism).

“If you’re growing a garden, you need to pull out the weeds, but flowers will die if all you do is pick weeds. They need sunshine and water. People are the same.

They need criticism, but they also require positive substantive language and information and true support to truly blossom.”

3. Good Leaders Look For These Five Qualities In Their Hires

1. A fundamental knowledge of the area they’ve been hired to manage
2. A relatively high — but not manic — level of energy and enthusiasm and a personality that is upbeat, motivated and animated.
3. The ability to discern talent in potential employees.
4. An ability to communicate in a relaxed yet authoritative — but not authoritarian — manner.
5. Unconditional loyalty to both you and other staff members.

4. The Four Most Powerful Words In Leadership

“I believe in you” (or equivalent words of your own).

Walsh writes that even Joe Montana (who already had a bunch of confidence) benefited from his coach telling him he believed in him.

Providing confidence to your team is perhaps the most powerful lever you can pull to help them optimize their performance.

And Walsh adds: And nobody will ever come back to you later and say “thank you” for expecting too little of them.

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Thursday, November 19, 2015  – Tom Clancy

TomClancy67

“America is the most inventive country in the world because everybody has access to information.”

And

“Fighting wars is not so much about killing people as it is about finding things out. The more you know, the more likely you are to win a battle.”

And

“I was one of the first generations to watch television. TV exposes people to news, to information, to knowledge, to entertainment. How is it bad?”

And

“I’ve made up stuff that’s turned out to be real, that’s the spooky part.”

And

“In the Soviet Union it was illegal to take a photograph of a train station. Look what happened to them. They tried to classify everything.”

And

“It’s not right to say that our loss in Vietnam turned out to be a gain. But lessons were learned. And they were the right lessons.”

And

“Life is about learning; when you stop learning, you die.”

And

“Man is a creature of hope and invention, both of which belie the idea that things cannot be changed.”

And

“No matter what you or anyone else does, there will be someone who says that there’s something bad about it.”

And

“Nothing is as real as a dream. The world can change around you, but your dream will not. Responsibilities need not erase it. Duties need not obscure it. Because the dream is within you, no one can take it away.”

And

“People live longer today than they ever have. They live happier lives, have more knowledge, more information. All this is the result of communications technology. How is any of that bad?”

And

“Probably what pushed the Russians over the edge was SDI. They realized they couldn’t beat us.”

And

“Show me an elitist, and I’ll show you a loser.”

And

“The control of information is something the elite always does, particularly in a despotic form of government. Information, knowledge, is power. If you can control information, you can control people.”

And

“The difference between fiction and reality? Fiction has to make sense.”

And

“The good old days are now.”

And

“The human condition today is better than it’s ever been, and technology is one of the reasons for that.”

And

“The U.S. Military is us. There is no truer representation of a country than the people that it sends into the field to fight for it. The people who wear our uniform and carry our rifles into combat are our kids, and our job is to support them, because they’re protecting us.”

And

“There are two kinds of people: the ones who need to be told and the ones who figure it out all by themselves.”

And

“There used to be this country called the Soviet Union; it’s not there anymore. Our technology was better than theirs.”

And

“There was a time when nails were high-tech. There was a time when people had to be told how to use a telephone. Technology is just a tool. People use tools to improve their lives.”

And

“Whenever somebody comes up with a good idea, there’s somebody else who has never had a good idea in his life who stands up and says, Oh, you can’t do that.”

….in SIX seasons on the job at Idaho is WORSE by almost HALF which by any measure we can think of Paul Petrino hasn’t done much at Idaho BUT that could all chance with an Idaho win over Auburn on Saturday….

Couldn’t It?

You bet your ass so Good Luck to Paul Petrino and the Vandals against Auburn and if you should beat the Tigers….which isn’t very likely….we would recommend getting out of Auburn as fast as is physically possible…if not faster…because things will get UGLY…and we mean UGLY….if that win over the Tigers happens!

22.  Chuck Martin, Miami (Ohio) – Whatever Miami (Ohio) head coach had in mind when taking the job to coach the Redhawks two years ago moving over from the offensive coordinator position at Notre Dame we imagine Martin didn’t imagine he would have these DREADFUL records on the board as his SECOND season came to a close…

Overall:  4 – 19

MAC:  3 – 12

….but those are the numbers and with only a game at UMass left to play in 2015 one has to wonder…

How bad can it get for Miami (Ohio) football because it can’t get worse than this….right?

Who the Hell knows but we do know that Miami (Ohio) is known as the…

“Cradle of Coaches”

…..for good reason with the following GREAT coaches having led the Redhawks in the past…

Sid Gillman
Woody Hayes
Ara Paraseghian
Bo Schembechler
Bill Mallory
Dick Crum
Randy Walker
Terry Hoeppner

…and we CANNOT imagine the folks at Miami (Ohio) will allow this Crapola football to continue on for much longer….right?

That HAS to be right!

FAUStadium

23.  Charlie Partridge, Florida Atlantic – Charlie Partridge is in his SECOND season coaching the Florida Atlantic Owls and in those TWO years has posted records of…

Overall:  5 – 17

CUSA:  4 – 11

….and we know those records CANNOT be making Charlie Partridge happy because the TRUTH is they are terrible and with games left against….

At Florida
At Old Dominion

….the 2015 season could get even worse and for Damn sure TWO more losses is no Damn way for any head coach to end his SECOND season on the job and with that in mind…..

Play Florida tough Charlie Partridge….the Gators have LOTS of weaknesses

AND

How about beating Old Dominion in the last game of the season to end on a good note?

Is that really too much to ask?

Didn’t think so and so Get Off Your Ass Charlie Partridge!

KevinSumlin1818181

24.  Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M – Something very strange happened the past couple of days that is worth noting in the Coaches Hot Seat Blog relative to Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin….

A member of Coaches Hot Seat who talks regularly with several Texas A&M alums and one A&M alum in particular made several of his usual calls on Monday down to the Houston area and got NO response at all….it was as if ALL of them would not take the Coaches Hot Seat member’s calls which was very curious so he called the wife of one of his A&M alum friends that he has talked to for years about the Aggies and the wife said….

“I don’t think he wants to talk to you this week….for obvious reasons.”

What in the Hell does that mean?

“I don’t think he wants to talk to you this week….for obvious reasons.”

Does the above mean that IF Kevin Sumlin’s Aggies happened to lose to Vanderbilt on Saturday to drop to…

7 – 4 on the season

3 – 4 in SEC play

….that Kevin Sumlin could be fired at the Nashville airport “Lane Kiffin-style” OR could it mean that a decision has already been made that the Aggies program is now going NOWHERE under Kevin Sumlin and that the Money Boys in Texas are ready to write a BIG check if the A&M football program continues to wobble in their last two games….

At Vanderbilt
At LSU

With the below story hitting the streets last night from the Baton Rouge Advocate by Scott Rabalais on the “thin ice” that LSU head coach Les Miles is now standing on….

‘Strong indications’ LSU’s Les Miles coaching for his job vs. Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Scott Rabalais, The Advocate

…there is a Very Damn Good Chance that the Saturday, November 28 game in Baton Rouge between Texas A&M – LSU could be…

Winning Coach still in trouble and Losing Coach OUT OF A JOB!

Another interesting thing happened on Tuesday afternoon to the Coaches Hot Seat member who regularly talks to Texas A&M alums in the Houston area…

He got a text from one of those Houston area A&M alums that said:

“Please email me the folks at Coaches Hot Seat honest opinion of Larry Fedora. Thanks.”

LarryFedora81818

That would be North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora who was born in….College Station, Texas

The email on Larry Fedora has been sent.

WestPointFB81919

25.  Jeff Monken, Army – We don’t enjoy putting military academy head coaches on the Hot Seat but Army head coach Jeff Monken is sitting on a record in 2015 of…

2 – 8

…and in his SECOND season at Army has an Overall Record of….

6 – 16

….and the Black Knights still have to play this season…

Rutgers
Navy

….which to us looks like TWO more losses which we can only respond to by saying….

Come on Jeff Monken….Get Army Football Off Its Ass Already!

Oh…that’s easier said than done you say?

Fine….but we still say…

Come on Jeff Monken….Get Army Football Off Its Ass Already!

DougMartin281818

26.  Doug Martin, New Mexico State – New Mexico State had a bye in Week 11 BUT the 2 – 7 Aggies get back to playing football this week with three games remaining on their schedule against….

At La. Lafayette
Arkansas State
At La. Monroe

….and our guess is NMSU finishes with a…

3 – 9

….record in 2015 which would leave Doug Martin’s record at NMSU in THREE seasons on the job of…

7 – 29

…..and if SEVEN wins in THREE seasons is good enough for the folks at New Mexico State then that is good enough for us BUT for Damn sure that will not get Doug Martin’s rear-end off the Hot Seat!

RonTurner281818

27.  Ron Turner, Florida International – FIU is such a sideshow in FBS football that it’s hard for us to know what is expected out of the FIU football program and head coach and thus it’s hard for us to know if Ron Turner can go THREE seasons on the job without posting at least a .500 plus record which it looks like will happen again in 2015 with 5 – 6 Florida International still having to play a game against Western Kentucky BUT the last FIU head coach Mario Cristobal was fired after a 3 – 9 record in 2012 after taking the school to TWO straight bowls games in 2010 and 2011 so frankly….

We Don’t Have A Freaking Clue

…what the folks at FIU are thinking BUT if the Panthers do lose to Western Kentucky on Saturday that will leave Ron Turner’s records in THREE years at the school at…

Overall:  10 – 25

CUSA:  7 – 16

….which looks BAD to us but then what the Hell do we know about FIU football? Evidently…not very much!

DanaHolgorsen17171

28.  Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia – Crazy Boy Dana Holgorsen got his CANNOT LOSE Win on Saturday against what looked like a terribly coached Texas team and that leaves the Mountaineers records in 2015 at….

5 – 4 overall

2 – 4 in Big 12 play

….with games still left against…

At Kansas
Iowa State
At Kansas State

…which are THREE games that West Virginia could easily win and are THREE games that we recommend Crazy Boy Dana Holgorsen and his football team do indeed WIN starting with the game at Kansas on Saturday!

TimDerutyer2381818

29.  Tim DeRuyter, Fresno State – Fresno State and its head coach Tim DeRuyter got a much needed win on Saturday at Hawaii which leaves the Bulldogs records in 2015 at….

3 – 7 overall

2 – 5 in MWC play

….with still games left to be played against…

At BYU
Colorado State

…..which with TWO more losses would probably put Tim DeRuyter’s tenure at Fresno State in serious danger…..in our humble opinion…which makes this Saturday’s game at BYU very Damn important indeed!

OregonState188181

30.  Gary Andersen, Oregon State – Several Coaches Hot Seat members were in the Willamette Valley on the weekend of November 1 and 2 of last year for the Stanford at Oregon game in Eugene and the California at Oregon State game in Corvallis and we talked to over a dozen people around then Mike Riley’s OSU football program and we left Corvallis with the firm conviction that…

Oregon State football was DEAD under Mike Riley and in DEEP trouble

….and of course like most people after seeing the state of the Beavers program last year up-close and seeing its decline over the past few years we were STUNNED when Nebraska hired Mike Riley since it’s out opinion here at Coaches Hot Seat that…

Mike Riley QUIT working hard at Oregon State several years ago

….which brings us to Gary Andersen now the head coach at Oregon State who inherited in our opinion a Helluva mess that is now being played out in the 2015 season with OSU sitting on records of…

2 – 8 overall

0 – 7 in Pac-12 play

…..with still games left to be played against…

Washington
At Oregon

Since it looks like Oregon State will finish 2015 at 2 – 10 and with ZERO wins in Pac-12 play what can first year head coach Gary Andersen do to turn around a Beavers program that is now way behind its conference competitors and has even surpassed Colorado as the worst team in the Pac-12?

There are only TWO things that can turn around the fortunes of Oregon State football right now…

Great Talent

Great Coaching

…..and it will be interesting to see if Gary Andersen has it within him to both attract some decent players to Corvallis and if he understands and can pull-off the Great Coaching job that will be needed to get things going in the right direction again at Oregon State.

One thing about Oregon State….Dennis Erickson took over an Oregon State football program in 1999 that was in pretty bad shape from the first-time that Mike Riley coached the Beavers and in very short order started winning some football games and even took OSU to the Fiesta Bowl in his SECOND season on the job so we have no doubt that things can be turned around at Oregon State….but can Gary Andersen turn things around is the question and even more importantly in our minds….does Andersen have the right “mindset” to take-on what will be one of the biggest challenges in FBS right now…

Reviving a football program that was left for DEAD by Mike Riley when he went to Nebraska

….which is our opinion of course but then what in the Hell do dozens of people at Coaches Hot Seat that have been playing and watching football for 40-plus years know?

And

Courage brother, do not stumble, though thy path be dark as night: There is a star to guide the humble, trust in God, and do the right. Let the road be dark and dreary and its end far out of sight. Face it bravely, strong or weary. Trust God, and do”

And

“The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it.”

All you have to do is hold your first dying soldier in your arms, and have that terribly futile feeling that his life is flowing out and you can’t do anything about it. Then you understand the horror of war. Any soldier worth his salt should be antiwar. And still there are things worth fighting for.”

And

“As far as Saddam Hussein being a great military strategist: He is neither a strategist, nor is he schooled in the operational art, nor is he a tactician, nor is he a general, nor is he a soldier. Other than that, he’s a great military man.”

My confidence in you is total. Our cause is just! Now you must be the thunder and lightning of Desert Storm. May God be with you, your loved ones at home, and our Country.” General H. There Are TWO Things A College Head Coach HATES To Hear…”The Athletic Director Is On Line 2” AND The Great Johnny Cash Singing Ring of Fire! Sing Mr. Cash!

Post Week 11 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings

CraigBohls19911

11.  Craig Bohl, Wyoming – Craig Bohl’s Wyoming team got whipped 38 – 3 by San Diego State on Saturday to continue what we are calling here at Coaches Hot Seat….

The Misery on the Wyoming Plains

….which has come to define Bohl’s tenure with the Cowboys which is only in its SECOND season with Bohl posting records of….

Overall:  5 – 18

MWC:  3 – 12

…..with only UNLV left to play at home which Hell…Wyoming should be able to win since the Rebels have a first-year head coach who only has THREE wins on the board himself!

One Coaches Hot Seat member summed-up the situation at Wyoming when we saw the Wyoming – San Diego State score on Saturday night?

“Please….is there anyone on Earth that can explain why Craig Bohl left North Dakota State for Wyoming? Hell, North Dakota State would run the Cowboys right out of any stadium in the country right now!”

There is NO logical answer to the above question and let that be a lesson to young coaches out there everywhere…

If you have a Helluva job…don’t take a Piss-Poor job to replace it!

SteveAddazio1181818

12.  Steve Addazio, Boston College – Can’t you just see Steve Addazio looking at the Boston College schedule before the season which in our minds went something like this…

Steve Addazio looking at Boston College’s 2015 schedule saying the following things to himself out loud…which is our opinion of course!

“OK…we beat Maine…1 – 0

We will whip Howard….2 – 0

Hell…Florida State at home…WIN…3 – 0

No way we lose to team from the MAC…Northern Illinois….4 – 0

At Duke….bunch of Pretty Boys….5 – 0

Wake Forest…PLEASE…6 – 0

At Clemson…Hell…that will be tough…OK we lose this one…6 – 1

At Louisville…I can whip Bobby Petrino’s ass….7 – 1

Virginia Tech….Beamer is old as the Virginia hills….8 – 1

NC State….CAKEWALK….9 – 1

And the Notre Dame Fighting Irish come to Boston to play the Mighty Boston College Eagles at Fenway Park with both teams in the Top 10 and…Boston College whips some Irish Ass….10 – 1!

At Syracuse….A Joke….11 – 1….OK..we probably are behind Clemson in ACC Atlantic but we finish at 11 – 1 and might just get in the College Football Playoff and I will be Coach of the Year!”

Earth to Stave Addazio…..Earth to Steve Addazio…..Wake Up Son….

It’s November 17 Son and your Boston College football team has…

Lost SIX straight ACC Games

…and is now on the season…

3 – 7 overall

0 – 7 in ACC play

…and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are coming to town in the College Football Playoff right now!

Can Boston College possibly upset Notre Dame on Saturday in Fenway Park and save Steve Addazio’s job who will NO doubt be run out of Boston if he loses these last two games to Notre Dame and Syracuse to finish at…

3 – 9 on the season

AND

0 – 8 in ACC play

…..in 2015?

Please….Notre Dame can score points and Boston College can’t so….

Turn On the Lights and Wake-Up Steve Addazio….Your Team is About To Lose Again….Turn On the Lights and Wake-Up Son….Because the Party is Over and Your Ass Will Be Run Out of Boston if You Lose to Notre Dame and Syracuse!

PaulJohnson989999

13.  Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech – Last week someone wrote the following question on a whiteboard at Coaches Hot Seat Central:

“What would you need to get in exchange for you playing football for four seasons for Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech?”

Some of the responses by Coaches Hot Seat members:

“Ferrari California WITH a beautiful blonde in the passenger seat

2,000 pounds of gold bullion

Lifetime free eating pass to Five Guys AND Chipolte

$21 Million Dollars

$22 Million Dollars

$23 Million Dollars

$24 Million Dollars and a lifetime supply of Moon Pies and RC Cola

Nick Saban’s salary for five seasons in one payment

Nick Saban’s Mercedes car dealership in Alabama and a beautiful blonde

Gulfstream IV jet…no make that a Gulfstream V jet

Not A Damn Thing on Earth I would take to play for Paul Johnson!”

There are some pretty tough guys here at Coaches Hot Seat that played football through college and then went into US Military that have No Damn Interest in playing for Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech because from the outside looking in the TRUTH is….

It just doesn’t look like much fun to play for Paul Johnson

…and if you aren’t have fun playing the Great Game of Football then why in the Hell do you play it?

Getting to what Paul Johnson’s football team has done on the field in 2015….the Yellow Jackets are now….

3 – 7 overall

1 – 7 in ACC play

…and still have to play games against….

At Miami
Georgia

Our guess….the Georgia Tech players will QUIT against Miami and lose to the Hurricanes and then GIVE-UP early against Georgia and lose to the Bulldogs to finish at….

3 – 9 overall in 2015

….which is Pretty Damn Bad from where we come from but does anyone at Georgia Tech care?

Who the Hell knows since it’s hard to find a Georgia Tech football fans in Atlanta these days!

14.  Paul Haynes, Kent State – Kent State lost to Ohio on Saturday by the score of 27 – 0 which dropped the Flash’s records in 2015 to….

3 – 7 overall

2 – 4 in MAC play

….and head coach Paul Haynes’ records in THREE seasons at the school to….

Overall:  9 – 24

MAC:  6 – 15

…..which may or may not be good or may or may not be acceptable to the folks at Kent State because the TRUTH is we just don’t have a clue if Kent State is willing to put-up with losing football seasons BUT for Damn sure the above records are BAD…or rather B – A – D!

RonCarager181818

15.  Ron Caragher, San Jose State – With the overtime loss to Nevada on Saturday that is TWO straight losses for the now 4 – 6 San Jose State Spartans who have left to play in 2015….

At Hawaii
Boise State

…..and the way that Boise State looked against New Mexico on Saturday night Ron Caragher’s football team may have a chance to knock-off the Broncos at home in the last game of the season but FIRST is a game in The Islands against the woeful Warriors which is a MUST WIN Game for Ron Caragher because a loss in this spot to HAWAII…

Would be a Complete Freaking Disaster!

Just for the record in his THIRD season at San Jose State Ron Caragher has now posted records of…

Overall: 1 3 – 21

MWC:  10 – 12

….which we would classify as….

Below Average

….and why Ron Caragher better Damn start winning some football games and QUICK!

LesMiles811818

16.  Les Miles, LSUA few years ago a handful of Coaches Hot Seat members were having dinner in one of those great New Orleans restaurants where you can hardly pronounce the name of the place and two guys at a neighboring table overheard us talking about college football and we all fell into an interesting conversation about LSU football and Les Miles most of which we will take to our graves BUT one interesting thing one of those Louisiana boys told us was this which none of us has ever forgotten:

ArnoudsNewOrleans

“We can understand not winning the National Title…but what will not be tolerated is LSU losing to Alabama consistently and not winning the SEC Title on a regular basis.”

Hmmmm…..

Since Nick Saban returned to the SEC to coach Alabama in 2007 Les Miles is now…

3 – 7

….against Saban in 10 games and Les Miles has now lost…

FIVE straight games to Alabama

….and the last time that LSU won the SEC Title?

In 2011 or FOUR seasons ago!

So let’s see here….

LSU is now regularly being DOMINATED by Alabama losing FIVE straight games AND LSU has NOT won the SEC Title since 2011

What did one of those Louisiana boys tell us in that restaurant in New Orleans a few years ago?

“We can understand not winning the National Title…but what will not be tolerated is LSU losing to Alabama consistently and not winning the SEC Title on a regular basis.”

Memo to Les Miles:  Don’t lose the last TWO games to Ole Miss and Texas A&M son to finish at 7 – 4 on the season or you might just wake-up in the month of December and find your ass out of a job.

But then again..maybe the fans of LSU football don’t mind being…

AVERAGE AS HELL!

MikeRiley1181818

17.  Mike Riley, Nebraska – No one here at Coaches Hot Seat was surprised that Nebraska beat Rutgers on the road on Saturday because we have seen the…

Mike Riley Yo-Yo Performance Train

…..for over a decade in action in the Pac-12 Conference and with the win the Huskers moved to 5 – 6 on the season and 3 – 4 in Big Ten Conference play and if Nebraska beats Iowa in Lincoln on Friday, November 27 the Huskers will finish at what we call…

“Just Good Ole 6 – 6 Mike Riley strikes again”

….which we would recommend Nebraska fans get used to because that’s…

“Just Good Ole 6 – 6 Mike Riley striking again”

…and looking at Nebraska’s 2016 schedule…

Fresno State
Wyoming
Oregon
At Northwestern
Illinois
At Indiana
Purdue
At Wisconsin
At Ohio State
Minnesota
Maryland
Iowa

….Bozo the Clown could post EIGHT wins and let’s hope NOT that….

“Just Good Ole 6 – 6 Mike Riley strikes again”

…putting another 6 – 6 record on the board again which no doubt would lead to Mike Riley and anyone that hired him being run out of Lincoln, Nebraska on a rail or anything else the Good Nebraska folks could find especially after the Debacle that has been the 2015 season!

CurtisJohnson888899

17.  Curtis Johnson, Tulane – Curtis Johnson and his Tulane football team got a nice win at Army on Saturday which raises the Green Wave’s records in 2015 to…

3 – 7 overall

2 – 5 in AAC play

….and Tulane still has to play this season games against…

At SMU
Tulsa

….which are TWO games we recommend Curtis Johnson win if he wants to have ANY kind of argument in late November that he should be retained as the head football coach at Tulane….in our humble opinion of course!

MarkRicht818181

18.  Mark Richt, Georgia – Every Summer when a group of Coaches Hot Seat members are in Montana fly fishing in some of the most beautiful rivers in America we sit around in the evenings and come up with what we call the….

How Many Games Would “X” Win Coaching “Y” Each Team in College Football

….and for the 2015 Georgia Bulldogs the results of the above test after looking at UGA’s schedule for this season were….

Bozo the Clown would win 7 games coaching Georgia in 2015

Bill Curry would win 8 games coaching Georgia in 2015

Rick Neuheisel would win 9 games coaching Georgia in 2015

Don James would win 10 games coaching Georgia in 2015

Tom Osborne would win 11 games coaching Georgia in 2015

Paul “Bear” Bryant would win 12 games coaching Georgia in 2015

AND…Mark Richt has posted records in 2015 at Georgia of…

7 – 3 overall

5 – 3 in SEC play

….which means Mark Richt has hit the “Bozo the Clown” mark BUT will Mark Richt be able to meet what Rick Neuheisel could have done who is of course now working for CBS Sports covering the SEC as an in-studio analysis by winning the last two games to get to 9 wins overall?

RickNeuheisel888

Oh…some Georgia fans are thinking in this spot that it’s not a Very Damn Good Look for the Bulldogs to have win their last TWO games just to meet the…

“Rick Neuheisel Standard”

…at Georgia in 2015?

Yep….now you know why Mark Richt is on the Hot Seat because Rick Neuheisel over 12 seasons at Colorado, Washington and UCLA….Yes…THREE pretty good college football programs….won 87 games or an average of…

7.25 Wins Per Season

….BUT if you give Rick Neuheisel the talent that is on Georgia’s 2015 roster Rick wins…

9 Games Easy

….and if Mark Richt loses even one of his last two games….

He falls to the “Bill Curry Standard”

BillCurry7777

…and if Georgia happened to lose both of their last two games here’s the standard that Mark Richt will have matched…..

Larry Harmon

Be Proud Georgia Fans…just don’t think you are winning ANYTHING EVER AGAIN as long as Mark Richt is the head football coach at Georgia!

Atlanta818181

20.  Trent Miles, Georgia State – The Chronicle of Higher Education in partnership with The Huffington Post put out an interesting story this week on how much college sports are subsidized in America….

The $10 Billion Sports Tab: How College Students Are Funding the Athletics Arms Race

…..with much of the story focusing on the Georgia State football program and the President of Georgia State University Mark Becker who is all Gung-Ho about GSU football which must be a Helluva spot to be in considering that the Panthers have won…

FOUR Football Games the last THREE Football Seasons!

…under head coach Trent Miles who did lead his football team this past Saturday to win over Texas State by the score of 41 – 19! Woo-Freaking-Hoo!

What’s left in 2015 for the now 3 – 6 Georgia State Panthers who gets lots of subsides from the students at Georgia State University?

South Alabama
Troy
At Georgia Southern

Call us CRAZY but we would be STUNNED if Georgia State wins another football game in 2015 but for Damn sure we have been wrong plenty in the past so…

Good Luck against South Alabama Trent Miles!

Post Week 11 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings

KevinWilson77-393x530

1.  Kevin Wilson, Indiana – Say it Ain’t Freaking So….Oh….It Be So….

Indiana football with the loss to Michigan in overtime has now lost SIX straight games to fall to 4 – 6 on the season with games still left against…

At Maryland
At Purdue

….and head coach Kevin Wilson BADLY needing to post a .500-plus record and take the Hoosiers to a bowl game this season is now in his FIFTH season in Bloomington with these records on the board:

Overall:  18 – 40

Big Ten:  6 – 32

Damn….Kevin Wilson has won SIX Big Ten Games in FIVE seasons at Indiana….and that…

Ain’t Good as they say in the South!

Can Indiana win its last two games against Maryland and Purdue which are woefully PITIFUL teams and get to 6 – 6 on the season?

We don’t see why the Hell not!

DarrellHazell18818

2.  Darrell Hazell, Purdue – Clearly these are BAD times for football in the state of Indiana with the two head football coaches of the two largest schools in the state…

Kevin Wilson, Indiana
Darrell Hazell, Purdue

….sitting No. 1 and No. 2 in the 2015 Post Week 11 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings and when one looks at Darrell Hazell’s records at Purdue after the Boilermakers’ loss to Northwestern on Saturday one can easily see why Hazell is on the Hot Seat in his THIRD season at Purdue:

Overall:  6 – 28

Big Ten:  2 – 20

Damn…TWO Big Ten wins in THREE seasons and Purdue still has to play this season….

At Iowa
Indiana

…which to us looks like TWO more losses which would leave Hazell’s record at Purdue over THREE seasons at:

Overall:  6 – 30

Big Ten:  2 – 22

Damn…the above is exactly why if we were a sitting athletic director at a school like Purdue we would make Damn sure we had a clause in the contracts of the head football and basketball coaches that we have a…

Reasonable Buyout Clause

…so that poor performance could be remedied by FIRING that wouldn’t harm the bottom-line of the athletic department in the process and yet….

Darrell Hazell has a $6.6 Million Dollar buyout at Purdue!

MitchDaniels888

Memo to Purdue President Mitch Daniels:  You need a new AD Mitch that knows his Ass from the Side of a Barn and who knows how to negotiate contracts with coaches and their agents that will not do damage to the Purdue athletic department if and when a coach NEEDS to be fired for non-performance on the field of play

PaulRhoads83883 (1)

3.  Paul Rhoads, Iowa State – Iowa State played what looks like to us a Highly-Overrated Oklahoma State team on Saturday before losing 35 – 31 to the Pokes and with that less Rhoads records at ISU stand at…

Overall:  32 – 53

Big 12:  16 – 43

…..and over the past THREE seasons Rhoads has posted records of…

Overall:  8 – 26

Big 12:  4 – 21

…..which as everyone can see is…

FOUR Big 12 wins in the last THREE seasons

….and the Cyclones still have to play this season…

At Kansas State
At West Virginia

…and it will be interesting to see how Iowa State finishes out what looks to be Paul Rhoads last season on the job and if that is the case it will be doubly-fascinating to see who Iowa State hires to replace Paul Rhoads who is a pretty good football coach who if the TRUTH be known didn’t react quick enough to the quickly changing Big 12 which left his Cyclones football team lagging behind many other Big 12 football programs that are zooming ahead with offenses that must be matched score-for-score or you will just flat-out lose a Helluva lot of football games…i.e…Iowa State now under Paul Rhoads.

MikeLondon271717

4.  Mike London, Virginia – With the 38 – 31 loss to Louisville on Saturday that is SEVEN losses for Virginia in 2015 and thus in…

SIX seasons at Virginia Mike London has posted ONE .500-plus record and taken UVA to ONE postseason bowl game

….and in our opinion there is just No Damn Reason for Virginia football to be that AVERAGE especially in the ACC Conference which is a place where even a Slightly Above Average team can win a Helluva lot of football games and thus why the Mike London-era in Charlottesville is coming to an end with only these games left on the Cavs schedule:

Duke
Virginia Tech

It will be very interesting to see who Virginia hires to replace Mike London because UVA is a pretty tough academic school but is also a place where many other Virginia athletic teams have been very competitive in the ACC and nationally in recent year….Yes….Virginia will be a fascinating head coaching search to watch.

Our advice to Virginia:  Hire a GREAT coach…if you can’t look at that coach and say he is GREAT…don’t hire him…it’s that simple.

KyleFlood821818

5.  Kyle Flood, Rutgers – With the Rutgers loss to Nebraska at home on Saturday by the score of 31 – 14 the Scarlett Knights 2015 football season has turned from…

Complete Disaster

….into a….

Complete Freaking Disaster

….and with only games left against…

At Army
Maryland

…..which SHOULD be TWO wins one has to wonder if Kyle Flood can survive both the “academic issue” with contacting and meeting with a Rutgers professor over a players’ classroom performance AND his football team not even posting a .500-plus record which leads us to….

Will Kyle Flood be fired in a couple of weeks?

We don’t have a clue BUT Rutgers is in the Big Ten Conference now and sits in a place where there is a Helluva lot of high school football talent within 200 miles of the school and that alone makes the Rutgers head coaching job one that a Helluva lot of people would love a shot at BUT as always….

Rutgers would need to hire the RIGHT coach which is not an easy thing to do it seems for MANY athletic directors these days for some reason.

CUFootballField

6.  Mike MacIntyre, Colorado – Even though Colorado has noticeably improved over the past THREE seasons under head coach Mike MacIntyre there is no getting around MacIntyre’s Pac-12 record of…

2 – 23

…which obviously means that MacIntyre has won…

TWO Pac-12 Games in THREE seasons

…and the Buffs still have to play in 2015….

At Washington State
At Utah

Damn….that looks like to us that Mike MacIntyre will be sitting on a Pac-12 record of…

2 – 25

….in THREE seasons at Colorado which is beyond bad…it’s Outrageously BAD!

Maybe Mike MacIntyre is coming back to coach Colorado in 2016 but that for Damn sure doesn’t mean he has done his job well….not even close….in our humble opinion.

7.  Scott Shafer, Syracuse – Scott Shafer has been head coach at Syracuse for almost THREE seasons now and he has records on the board of…

Overall:  13 – 22

ACC:  6 – 16

…..which is Very Damn Average especially compared to the last head coach at Syracuse….Doug Marrone…who put up records of…

Overall:  25 – 25

ACC:  11 – 17

….in FOUR seasons which is still NOT great but a Helluva lot better than what Shafer has been able to do.

Here is what’s left on the Syracuse schedule:

At NC State
Boston College

In our opinion if Syracuse finishes at 3 – 9 this season the Orange will FOR SURE be looking for a new head football coach in a few weeks.

CharlieStrong288118

8.  Charlie Strong, Texas – How bad are things at Texas? Consider Charlie Strong’s record at TEXAS heading towards the end of his SECOND season on the job….

Overall:  10 – 13

Big 12:  8 – 8

Texas has TEN wins in the last TWO seasons under Charlie Strong and those wins are over…

North Texas
Iowa State
Texas Tech
West Virginia
Oklahoma State
Rice
Oklahoma
Kansas State
Kansas – 2 times

In other words in his SECOND season at TEXAS Charlie Strong has beaten…

ONE Real Football Team

….which would be Oklahoma this season and the other NINE wins….

Not Very Damn Much At All

….and we are talking about TEXAS Football here….right?

Right!

Now at 4 – 6 on the season the Longhorns have left to play games against….

Texas Tech
At Baylor

….and we rather doubt TEXAS can beat either of the above teams which means Charlie Strong is looking at…

8 Losses in 2015

…and we cannot imagine how Charlie Strong survives 8 Regular Season losses at TEXAS….which hasn’t happened since 1956.

MarkStoops919191

9.  Mark Stoops, Kentucky – With the loss to Vanderbilt Mark Stoops record at Kentucky after almost THREE seasons on the job stands at…

Overall:  11 – 23

SEC:  4 – 20

…and the last head coach at Kentucky….Joker Phillips….after THREE seasons on the job posted records of…

Overall:  13 – 24

SEC:  4  – 20

….which got Joker Phillips FIRED and the Wildcats have left on their schedule in 2015….

Charlotte
Louisville

Judging by the way Louisville is playing right now it looks like Mark Stoops will finish with the following records after THREE years on the job at Kentucky:

Overall:  12 – 24

SEC:  4 – 20

…which is essentially THE SAME record that Joker Phillips posted so we would recommend that Mark Stoops and his coaching staff go to work on Louisville which has some MAJOR weaknesses….ALL Bobby Petrino coached teams have the same MAJOR weaknesses….and find a way to beat Louisville on November 28 or this upcoming offseason will not be very much fun at all for Mark Stoops…just no Damn fun!

GusMalzahn11818

10.  Gus Malzahn, AuburnOn October 10, 2014 the Auburn Tigers coached by Gus Malzahn arrived in Starkville, Mississippi undefeated and ranked No. 2 in the country to play Mississippi State and lost by a score of 38 – 23 and since that loss last season Gus Malzahn has posted records of…

Overall:  8 – 10

SEC:  4 – 9

….at Auburn so one has to wonder…what in the Hell has happened to Auburn football and Gus Malzahn since that loss to Mississippi State in October 2014?

In our opinion which has been backed-up by a former SEC coach we talked to from time-to-time…

Gus Malzahn’s offense has been neutralized to a great extent by everyone by moving playing into “specific areas of the field” and unless the Auburn offense runs VERY FAST it has no chance to counteract what SEC defenses are now doing and according to that former SEC coach Gus Malzahn’s now has TWO choices if he is going to save his job:

Change the Auburn offense to run more play-action –pass down the field and across the middle of the field to get defenders away from the line of scrimmage and out of position OR speed up the offense again to a level where SEC defensive coaches don’t have a chance to get their defenders into the right position to defend the offense.

Whatever the Hell is going on with Auburn’s offense and how SEC defenses have reacted to slow it down we do know that Gus Malzahn is…

5 – 5 overall

2 – 5 in SEC play

….in 2015 with a team that has enough talent on its roster to win not only the SEC but the National Championship and that REALITY must either Numb or Piss-Off fans of Auburn Football….

It would Piss-Us-Off Royally..…but that’s just us!

With games left against….

Idaho
Alabama

…and both at home we would hope Auburn can find a way to beat a very Damn below average Idaho team and then hopefully find a way to give Alabama a game BECAUSE if Alabama comes into Jordan-Hare Stadium and blows away Auburn by FOUR or more touchdowns….

Gus Malzahn may shortly thereafter be out of a job….PERIOD.

NO….if Alabama blows-out Auburn in the Iron Bowl this year….Gus Malzahn might as well go straight to his office and start packing because…

IT WILL BE OVER for Gus Malzahn at Auburn….PERIOD.
