2007 Coaches Final Grades

The Coaches Final Grades for the 2007 season are in and what an interesting picture they paint of the game of college football. We looked at each coach and their season separately, but we were interested to see how the overall results would shake-out. Here are the numerical results of the grades:

A – 22

B – 33

C – 30

D – 25

F – 10

The above grades certainly fall close to Normal Distribution, with 73.3% of the grades falling within one deviation from the mean. The most interesting thing to us from the Final Grades is that we have over double the number of A’s as F’s. What that really means is hard to say, but if you look at the coaches that got A’s, the majority are not at what one would normally consider to be traditional college football powers. To us that means that parity is indeed taking hold in the game of college football, which allows most teams to compete against other teams without worrying how many players are on the opposing sideline. Yes, the traditional powers still have a big advantage, but college football is starting to look more and more like college basketball, and that only points to the importance of a post-season playoff tournament that allows as many teams as possible to compete for a championship.
