Coaches Hot Seat Analysis

It’s hard to find much to criticize Urban Meyer for his 8 years as a head football coach, because he has put up a record of  83 -17, which is a winning percentage of .830, that is only topped by Boise State’s Chris Peterson and USC’s Pete Carroll among active coaches, and Meyer has won 2 national titles and put up another undefeated season at Utah.  One of the things that has driven Urban Meyer to produce such a sterling coaching career is an internal trait that is found in only a very small fraction of humans on the earth, and that trait is an intense hatred of losing.  Many people are born with a love of winning, but not a hatred of losing, and this trait that Meyer carries is also shared by sports giants like Michael Jordan, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Larry Bird, Jimmy Connors, etc., and many of the greatest head football coaches in history, including Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, Paul Bryant, Jimmy Johnson, Don James, Barry Switzer and many others.  What is very interesting about the “hatred of losing” trait that Urban Meyer carries is that it is our opinion that this particular trait is disappearing in the United States as more and more Americans come to more easily accept the idea that losing is acceptable in our country.  Not that we believe there is something inherently wrong in losing, because losing whether it be in sports, in the classroom, in business or even in life, is one of the best ways to learn how to deal with difficult circumstances and to return later in life to win at a chosen endeavor.  In fact, a society that teaches their children that there is “nothing wrong” with losing and that there are not great lessons to be learned and taught when one fails, is one of the key markers for the downfall of a civilization and it doesn’t take a genius to look around in America today and wonder about the future of our Republic.  Here at Coaches Hot Seat we view the having or not having of the “hatred of losing” trait as one of the key determining factors of whether a head coach will be successful or not in his career and we have a board on a wall at CHS Central that lists the head coaches in I-A that we believe carry that trait.  Needless to say, it is a very short list.

Going forward, Urban Meyer will have every opportunity………

Coaches Hot Seat Bottom Line

The BCS Boys and Their Bogus Threats and Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman Believes .629 is “above average.”

Those of us here at Coaches Hot Seat never really thought that a university president in 2009 would actually make the argument that a group of institutions actually has the right to discriminate against another group of universities and the student-athletes of those schools, but that is exactly what the chancellor of Nebraska Harvey S. Perlman did yesterday before the US Senate and the American people.  (Here’s a link to a video of the BCS hearing and the prepared testimony of the witnesses)  Mr. Perlman concluded this incredibly arrogant line of reasoning by saying:

“We cannot all be above average in every endeavor.”

Only in the bizarre-world that is the BCS and the people that enable the most absurd system to determine a sports champion on the face of the Earth could actually believe that when Mr. Perlman’s football team, the Nebraska Husker football team that is, has put up a record 53-36 (.629) over the last 8 years and the chancellor of that university believes that is somehow “above average.”  That’s right, Harvey Perlman who has never worked a day in his adult life not on the public payroll believes that a .629 winning percentage is “above average,” but that of course makes sense because we all know what is really behind the BCS, and we all know it has nothing do with crowning a legitimate national championship in college football on the field of play in a fair, equal and American way.  (A few of us here at Coaches Hot Seat have actually met Mr. Perlman due to another Nebraska resident’s fine work, Warren Buffet, which brings us to Omaha at least once a year for an annual meeting to mingle with the fine people of the state of Nebraska.  Our opinion of Mr. Perlman is that he is an academic, a man that would not last a split second on a football field, and although he may be a good university chancellor, we don’t think he has a clue in the world how real championships are earned and won on the field of play by real men, and sadly that is the case for a majority of presidents at the universities and colleges of our country, and that fact is also one of the greatest weaknesses of our system of higher education.  Far too often university presidents have no real world experience to draw on that they can then translate down to the student body, because most have never worked a day in their lives in a company or organization that is not supported by the taxpayers, which is of course one of the key arguments against the Bogus BCS.  All of these institutions that make up the BCS and even the non-BCS schools, even the private colleges and universities like Notre Dame are supported by the taxpayers to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars each year, and if the taxpayers of the United States via their elected representatives decide that the BCS is illegal and it must be replaced with the same type of system that every other sport in intercollegiate athletics uses to crown its champion, then that is exactly what will happen, no matter what Harvey Perlman or the BCS Boys say or do.  Perlman and the rest of the university presidents and the BCS Boys that work for them have seem to forgotten that it is the fans and the American taxpayers that pay their salaries, but then the BCS Boys as a group are collectively the biggest bunch of arrogant asses this side of the Iranian leadership, so no we are never surprised at their actions or comments.  Very simply, a coward is afraid of open, fair and equal competition and the BCS Boys are cowards, at least they are in a country like the United States of America where equality, fair treatment, and earning the things you get in an honest and open way are the hallmarks of our Republic.  Is there really an American anywhere that will argue with those basic principles?  Please, if there is, step forward, for we want to know who you are and how the hell you were raised in the United States of America.)  And, yes, that is our opinion and the more we are exposed to these BCS Boys, the more that opinion is affirmed.

Yes, Harvey Perlman believes that the student-athletes at the University of Nebraska, and we suppose at other BCS conference schools as well are more equal than the student-athletes at the non-BCS schools.  Are there really American citizens that were not raised in a socialist commune that believes that every American should have an equal opportunity to compete for a championship within the sports league in which he competes?  Are there Americans that can point to any sports league on any level anywhere on Earth where one group of athletes are treated in a preferential way and the other group of athletes are treated in a discriminatory way and are seen by some to be as defacto second-class citizens?  The answer to both of those questions is of course not, because most Americans, as do most people on this planet, believe that championships should be earned out in the open and on the field of play, and there is not a chance in hell any parent would allow a system like the BCS to be instituted in any sports league that his or her children played in, because the BCS is an abomination to not only the America way it is at its core disgusting that any American believes that some of our citizens are more equal than others.

Let’s just be honest what is really going on here, Harvey Perlman and the rest of the BCS Boys are COWARDS because they are afraid and scared to settle the National Championship in college football on the field of play as 88 other sports in collegiate athletics crown their champion.  That’s right, if you are for the BCS not only are you against settling the National Championship on the field of play in a way that honors the traditions of our country, but you are also a COWARD and there is just not getting around that fact.

Congratulations to all you BCS Lovers.  You believe in discrimination and you are cowards and I defy any of you to challenge those facts, because you have made very clear that you cannot handle the way that every other sport in the United States and around determines their champion…

ON THE FIELD OF PLAY.

Even the French, EVEN THE DAMN FRENCH, with their Tour de France bike race, determine the winner of their race by what happens on the road, and not in the backrooms and at the whims of subjective and often as we have found out, biased voting.  That’s right, the Lovers of the BCS are even below the Candy Ass, Wine Drinking, Pate’ Eating, American Hating, Let the Nazi’s march in Paris unopposed French.  How does it feel to not have the manhood of the French all of you BCS Lovers?  If it feels good, then exactly where America could you have possibly been raised in?

Let’s just sum up the lovers of the BCS:

Discriminators – In the disgusting tradition of former Alabama Governor George Wallace who thought black Americans were not equal to white Americans.  Now the BCS Boys believe some student-athletes are better than other student-athletes, when all are American citizens.  How disgusting can one get?  It seems pretty damn disgusting and they can actually defend this bullshit with a smile on their face…

Cowards – In all of you are afraid to determine the National Champion in college football on the field of play.  Who is afraid of honest, open and fair competition that determines the champion on the field of play?  Certainly no American we know, but then again we don’t hang around folks that love the BCS, because we would not hang around folks that devalue the basic principles of our country.

And below even the French – In that the French even determine the champions in their sports on the field of play.  How pitiful is that?  Pretty damn pitiful!

How proud all of you BCS Lovers must be.

Please, all of you BCS Lovers when you look your children and grandchildren in the eyes, make sure you don’t tell that you believe in fair play, equal treatment and the American way, BECAUSE YOU DO NOT.  If you do tell them you believe that championships are earned on the field of play, then you are not only a COWARD, you are LIAR and a HYPOCRITE.

If you believe the Bogus BCS is the proper way to determine the National Champion in college football, we here at Coaches Hot Seat are very thankful that you BCS Lovers were not hanging around in 1776, because we have no doubt all of you would be against American Independence.  Yes, can’t you just see these BCS Lovers…

BCS Lovers:  “Hey, there goes Sam Adams and his trouble-makers causing trouble again!  Hey, they are dressed up like Indians and they are going to toss that British tea in the harbor.  Damn them!  We don’t need independence, because rather like the way things are here, even though the King taxes us without representation.  You see, if it happened yesterday, then we would continue it today, because that is what people that never accomplish anything in their lives do.  We go along to get along, even though it violates the principles of Man.”

Yes, how proud all of BCS Lovers must be, but please don’t look your children and grandchildren in the eyes and tell them you believe in the American way.  No, do not do that, BECAUSE YOU DO NOT.

It is self-evident that championships, and anything else in life that really matters, are earned in only one place, and that is by hard work and on the field of play, and if you disagree with that fact, you are a very sorry excuse for an American.

Now moving on to some very dumb people, the folks people that have quoted Perlman and other BCS Lovers in the past week, and many times we have seen over the past couple of days, that if the BCS was ruled illegal by a court or outlawed by the US Congress, that the schools would revert to the old bowl system, we can only say, if you did say or write the above:

YOU ARE INDEED A MORON!

Is there really someone in America so stupid that they believe that if the BCS was outlawed that cash-strapped collegiate athletic departments across the country would then turn down offers from TV networks and cable channels to immediately almost double what those schools are making on the BCS, to put into place a playoff system to crown the National Champion in college football?  Are there really people that stupid in the United States of America?  Please, it can’t be!

We have some news for the morons that parroted the comment by Perlman that the schools would revert to the old bowl system if the BCS was determined to violate US law, you are indeed beyond help and you have no understanding of the amount of money that collegiate athletics programs would be slated to lose if they did go back to the old Bogus bowl system of playing a lot of meaningless exhibition games, which is really what we have now with the BCS.  Oh, the Big Ten led by one of the biggest fools on the planet would try to resurrect the meaningless exhibition game in Pasadena, but if the rest of college football has moved onto playoff, which is exactly what would happen no matter what Perlman and his enablers and parrots in the media say, the Big Ten would not be able to stand their alone and say they would not be for playoff.  We would love to see what the Big Ten folks would tell the players that they were going to boycott the college football National Championship tournament.  Yes, that would damn interesting to watch!

No, you might not be a redneck if you wrote or said that if the BCS was outlawed that college football would go back to the old bowl system, but you are indeed…

A MORON!

And badly in need of an education of basic economics.

The saddest part about the fools that parroted the comment made by Perlman about going back to the old bowl system, is that most don’t even realize that the comment was nothing more than the creation of high-paid lawyers and PR flaks that are along with the BCS Boys fighting for a system that is as un-American as anything in our country today.

Very simply, if you are for the BCS, you are a COWARD.

Be proud, but don’t think the Senate hearing yesterday was anywhere near the last to be heard on the Bogus BCS, for as the great American John Paul Jones said in reply to a quip about surrender to a British captain:

“I (We) have not yet begun to fight.”

No, the debate over the Bogus BCS is far from over and the BCS Boys would be wise to keep spending money on high-priced lobbyists and attorneys, because you will need every bit of their hired help to stave off what is the opinion about the BCS by the vast majority of college football fans and anyone else that cares about what is right and wrong in the United States of America.  Yes, the majority of Americans and college football fans think it is unfair, bogus and an absurd way to determine the national champion in college football, which also happens to be the opinion on the BCS held by the President of the United States.  Take them apples and stuff them where the Sun don’t shine BCS Lovers!

Of course, BCS Lovers wouldn’t know anything along the sentiments of John Paul Jones, because they are afraid, very afraid, incredibly afraid, cowardly afraid, and embarrassingly afraid for Americans to settle the National Championship on the field of play in an open, honest and fair way.  Yes, playing meaningless exhibition games after taking a month off from the game of college football is important to them and they must think it would be a tragedy that the championship in college football was actually earned on the field of play.  Yes, a tragedy all right, but a tragedy of thought, of mediocrity, of accepting less than the best and what is right, which unfortunately is setting in all across America today as people come up with all kinds of excuses for why they cannot be the best at what they do in their lives.  Yes, very sadly, the likes of Harvey Perlman, the chancellor that believes a .629 winning percentage is “above average” and is to be celebrated is becoming the norm in America, and that portends very bad things for the future of our Republic.

Yes, we and others that have the firm conviction that championships are earned on the field of play can look our children and grandchildren in the eyes and know we are not hypocrites and we can only feel very sorry for you folks that don’t have the guts, the fortitude, nor the common sense to recognize that in America…

WE SETTLE CHAMPIONSHIPS ON THE FIELD OF PLAY.

What a novel and American idea, but it seems there are some Americans that believe differently and to you folks we can only wonder in what damn country you were raised in because our parents taught us much differently, in fact the complete damn opposite to your Bogus views.

We are Americans at Coaches Hot Seat and damn proud of it, and we are not scared of a little competition, so exactly what is wrong with you BCS Lovers?  Please, get out the white gloves, some warm (but not too hot!) tea, pass out the sugar cookies, because the BCS Lovers are in town and they are going to fight like little girls to keep the Bogus BCS which violates every tenet that the United States of America is based upon.  Oh, we are so very thankful that these BCS Lovers were not around 233 years ago, or indeed we might all be taking high tea every afternoon and singing God Save the King at cricket matches.  Yes, at least thanks for that!

When we hear at Coaches Hot Seat think of America, one band comes to mind.  Yes, you’ve got it, the great AMERICAN (and Californian!) band…
