San Francisco Fleet Week including the Blue Angels on both Saturday and Sunday
Stanford Football on Saturday at Noon on the campus of Stanford University
The San Francisco Giants opening the Divisional Playoffs against the Cincinnati Reds at AT&T Park on Saturday evening
The San Francisco 49ers play the Buffalo Bills at Candlestick Park on Sunday
The San Francisco Chronicle is all over all of the above events plus a great Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park and a street festival in the North Beach section of San Francisco:

San Francisco Fleet Week is one of OUR favorite weekends in the Bay Area each year because we get to tell in person some of America’s sailors and Marines how much we appreciate their service to this great country of ours and we make sure to have plenty of currency on hand to buy them drinks, food or just slide them a few Bucks just like New Yorkers did for a few of us during Fleet Week in New York City over 20 years ago now.
All the folks in San Francisco are not happy though because today we had lunch with a few of the most powerful people in the Bay Area to discuss the current political campaign and at the end of our lunch one of those leading citizens and very Damn powerful guy asked us….
“Why in the Hell is the Pac-12 Network not on my DirecTV service?”
Damn good question and a complicated one as Jon Wilner of the Mercury News has written about on many occasions and just did this afternoon as well…
…and as we tried to explain the Complete Nonsense reasons on both sides of this issue between the Pac-12 Conference and DirecTV of why the Pac-12 Network is NOT on DirecTV that leading citizen of San Francisco and very Damn powerful guy cut us off with….

We had to agree that the Pac-12 Network not long ago being on DirecTV is….

…and from what we have been told by someone that should know the Pac-12 Network could easily be on DirecTV right now at a slightly lower amount of money than Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott promised the twelve Pac-12 schools that he would be able to obtain from cable and satellite companies and thus what has really happened is that the Pac-12 Conference has created a nice network BUT the Pac-12 Conference schools’ football games are now seen by…
A Helluva LOT LESS
…people they have been seen in recent years when the two Saturday evening football games were televised by the Fox – Comcast Sports Net channels and now those games have Completely Disappeared for subscribers to DirecTV and many cable companies as well.
The Pac-12 Network is great for the Pac-12 Conference BUT the TRUTH is that the Pac-12 Network has dramatically reduced the exposure of Pac-12 football and if a deal is not made with DirecTV and other cable channels soon there will also be hundreds of Pac-12 basketball games that will not be able to be watched by Tens of Millions of Americans that only last year could be watched by ALL Americans that subscribed to a general sports package with a satellite and cable company.
Our opinion here at Coaches Hot Seat after talking to a few people insider the TV industry:
The Pac-12 Network would already be on DirecTV and several other cable companies offerings to their customers IF Larry Scott was willing to accept slightly less monetarily than what Scott promised to the Pac-12 school presidents and athletic directors when the idea of a Pac-12 Network was pitched by Scott about a year ago and IF Larry Scott does not cut a deal soon then he and the Pac-12 schools and presidents will have to deal with the FACT that the Pac-12 Conference is now playing football and soon basketball games that are in 2012 being seen by….
Tens of Millions People LESS
…than were able to watch those same games in 2011 – 2012.

….and we rather doubt that Larry Scott gives two rips about the fans of Pac-12 Conference sports all over America and around the world that are not able to watch the same sports games they have been able to watch for over a decade on other sports channels and now CANNOT BE SEEN AT ALL.
As we told that leading citizen of San Francisco and very Damn powerful guy at the end of our lunch which is our opinion….
“The Pac-12 Conference commissioner Larry Scott could care the Hell less that you cannot watch your alma mater’s football games and if you run into Larry you should give him a piece of your mind.”
