There have been several great articles and columns written this week about the demise of the USF – UCF rivalry, including…
…so we will not try to rewrite what professional journalists have already written, but rather just get to the heart of the matter with the ending of UCF-USF rivalry:
Jim Leavitt is not MAN enough to play UCF every year!
Yes, that’s right, South Florida head football coach Jim Leavitt is scared to death of the thought of having to face, and possibly lose to UCF every year. How pitiful that a grown man that has built the South Florida football program from scratch is so afraid of another school just up I-4 in Orlando. Mike Bianchi in the Orlando Sentinel correctly identifies that ego and money is a big part of the UCF – USF series being ended, but there is something else going on here, and it points to the most corrosive institution in American sports today, the BCS. In this particular case, USF plays in the Big East which is a “BCS Conference,” but the bastard child here according to the Masters of the Universe (the BCS Boys) is UCF, which in their minds is a substandard school and thus is not deemed worthy to play in a “BCS Conference.” How arrogant of the BCS Boys to separate out certain schools and conferences that cannot be part of their little club, and how so very un-American. Yes, the BCS Boys are un-American, because they have set up a caste system that recalls all that our Founders left Europe for to found this great Republic, and that caste system is now affecting what should be a great rivalry between USF and UCF. Many of us here at Coaches Hot Seathave traveled dozens of times between St. Petersburg and Daytona Beach on I-4, often playing golf and visiting theme parks, and the area of Florida that separates USF and UCF should be one of the best settings for a heated rivalry between two schools that are very much alike (see just how much they are alike in students, faculty, etc. UCF – USFat Wikipedia). But no, it is not to be, because the mighty BCS Boys have spread their special pixie dust and have declared that one school in USF is a “chosen one” and the other in UCF is not worthy of such a designation. Yes, that is what is driving the end of the UCF-USF series that one school has been chosen by the un-American BCS Boys and other has not. How disgraceful, and how a very un-American view of the world these BCS Boys have.
You see, Jim Leavitt is not an idiot, he is just scared to death to play UCF every year, because he knows that his football program would be damaged terribly if he lost to a “non-BCS” school on any kind of regular basis, thus Leavitt’s great fear and objection to keeping series going. No Jim Leavitt, we are not idiots here at Coaches Hot Seat either, and we can see through to the very real reasons you do not want to play UCF yearly. We can also see the very un-American and thoroughly repugnant views of the BCS Boys that some people and schools are better than others in America. In America of all places, the BCS Boys claim that a certain school is better than another when the two schools are almost entirely identical in every way. What a repugnant and disgusting view of the world, but the arrogance of the BCS Boys is something that can be addressed at the proper place and time. (The great thing about the very good attorney (and a graduate of one of the best law schools in this country) that we have added to our membership group here at Coaches Hot Seat is that he tends to think of litigation and about how “parties,” i.e. alumni and boosters of “non-BCS” schools might have been damaged by the existence of the BCS in a country that does not think highly of cartels and monopolies: Read about the Sherman Antitrust Act and how it might just apply to the BCS. Also on the plaintiff side how “millions of parties” might just be getting damaged by the mere existence of the BCS (or is it really a cartel or trust?). Yes, negotiate those big TV contracts BCS Boys, because that just fattens up the pot to possibly help pay the “millions of injured parties” by the existence of the BCS in a country that flatly does not allow cartels and monopolies to exist. How the BCS Boys could possibly explain how some schools in I-A football can be a member of their little group and others cannot, would be highly entertaining under oath. Certainly, the members of our group that attended and support their “non-BCS” alma maters feel rightly “damaged” by the BCS. Luckily, we have talked to hundreds, if not thousands of other non-BCS alumni and boosters that feel the very same way. Can you say start taking affidavits?)
Alas, we digress, because the case against the BCS is for another day, and the subject at hand here is the notion that:
Jim Leavitt is not MAN enough to play UCF every year!
Jim, we pegged you for a lot of things (mostly positive up to this point), but not being a MAN was not one of them. How sad for the game of football that this great series between UCF and USF is coming to an end. How pitiful that Jim Leavitt and his football program are not able to MAN-UP and play UCF every year.
To bad that Jim Leavitt cannot….
No, Jimmy you cannot handle the truth. The truth is that you and the USF football program are not MAN enough to play UCF every year, and since you have now ended this rivalry, that fact is never going to change until the series is revived. How sad and how pitiful for Jim Leavitt….
We haven’t yet pulled for a team here at Coaches Hot Seatexcept for our own alma maters, but we will be pulling for UCF to beat USF on Saturday night. Jim Leavitt is just lucky we will not be delivering the pre-game speech for UCF, because we would have those Knights laying some hits on the Bulls from the coin flip onward that would never be forgotten. Give ‘em hell UCF, and go out and beat USF and what our Governor Schwarzenegger accurately calls….
