Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Tuesday, September 11, 2012 – Grantland Rice

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Tuesday, September 11, 2012 – Grantland Rice

“For when the One Great Scorer comes to mark against your name, He writes – not that you won or lost – but how you played the Game.”

And

“A wise man makes his own decisions, an ignorant man follows the public opinion.”

And

“Depend upon yourself. Make your judgement trustworthy by trusting it. You can develop good judgement as you do the muscles of your body – by judicious, daily exercise. To be known as a man of sound judgement will be much in your favor.”

And

“Does the road wind up-hill all the way? Yes, to the very end. Will the day’s journey take the whole long day? From morn to night, my friend.”

And

“Eighteen holes of match play will teach you more about your foe than 18 years of dealing with him across a desk.”

And

“You are meant to play the ball as it lies, a fact that may help to touch on your own objective approach to life.”

And

“Outlined against a blue-gray October sky, the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore their names are Death, Destruction, Pestilence, and Famine. But those are aliases. Their real names are: Stuhldreher, Crowley, Miller and Layden. They formed the crest of the South Bend cyclone before which another fighting Army team was swept over the precipice at the Polo Grounds this afternoon as 55,000 spectators peered down upon the bewildering panorama spread out upon the green plain below.”

Review of Week 2 Coaches Hot Seat Coaches and Teams MUST Win Games – UCLA Is Playing FOOTBALL and Big Ten Cream Puffs….Nebraska and Wisconsin….Are Playing What Exactly?….Because It Isn’t Football! – Question: Do They Still Play Tackle Football in the Big Ten Conference? – Memo to the Stanford Cardinal Football Team: THERE IS NO TOMORROW!

Review of Week 2 Coaches Hot Seat Coaches and Teams MUST Win Games

In Week 2 of the 2012 college football season we listed…

15 Coaches and Teams

….facing MUST Win Games and here is how those games turned out:

12 Coaches and Teams WON Their MUST Win Games in Week 2

Tom O’Brien and NC State OVER Connecticut – Yes, NC State beat UConn….BUT by ONLY 3 points….10 – 7! Geez, that was OH SO close to putting Tom O’Brien’s rear-end on the Hot Seat!

Randy Edsall and Maryland OVER Temple – Hey, beating Temple these days especially in Philadelphia is a REAL win! On to UConn and maybe…just maybe…a win in this spot could cool down Edsall’s rip-roaring Hot ass…..in a proverbial sense that is!

Frank Spaziani and Boston College OVER Maine – Wow! Boston College beat Maine! Party time in Beantown! Oh, NO…..a trip to Northwestern is in the offing but do they even play tackle football in the Big Ten anymore?

Mike Leach and Washington State OVER Eastern Washington – Whew, the Pirate and his Cougs barely got that win….

A GREAT Weekend in the San Francisco Bay Area Sets-Up Next Weekend’s GRUDGE Weekend by the Bay! – The USC Trojans and Detroit Lions Are Coming To the City by the Bay Next Weekend and It Will Be Time To Send Those Bastards Home With LOSSES! – Post Week 2 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings – Can Someone Help Us With What Actually Happened in the Movie Deliverance and Then Maybe We Can Understand What the Hell Is Going On In SEC Country?

This past weekend was a GREAT one in the San Francisco Bay area with…

Stanford beating Duke 50 – 13 in a MUCH improved performance over Week 1

The San Francisco Giants taking 2 of 3 games against the Los Angeles Dodgers to go up 5.5 games in West Division of the National League

The San Francisco 49ers put a whipping on the Green Bay Packers in Green Bay

…with ALL of the above setting up for this coming weekend what we here at Coaches Hot Seat are calling:

GRUDGE Weekend by the Bay!

First, we have that piss-ant Lane Kiffin bringing his USC Trojans to The Farm for a Saturday afternoon game against the Stanford Cardinal with this little FACTOID hanging in the air….

Stanford has BEATEN USC THREE STRAIGHT TIMES

AND

Stanford has WON FOUR OF THE LAST FIVE Games against USC

Take that FACTOID and stuff it where the Sun Doesn’t Shine Trojans!

The Stanford football team will be interested to hear that our USC-alum buddies are Very Damn Confident that USC will “WHIP Stanford” next Saturday on The Farm and they already have their victory restaurant reservations for one of the San Francisco’s finest eating establishments made for Saturday night where they invited us to join them in “Celebrating USC’s win over The Cardinal!”

Uhhhhhh, there’s this little matter that the Stanford Cardinal is going to pop the USC Trojans in the mouth and find out if they and their pretty-boy QB want to play FOOTBALL or if they want to continue that ballerina dancing they have been playing under the piss-ant?

Meanwhile in the Undercard for next weekend on Sunday night we have the….

Jim Harbaugh vs. Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz

….GRUDGE Rematch which is a carry-over GRUDGE Match from 2011 which we wrote about in the Coaches Hot Seat Blog HERE and which should provide for some mighty interesting storylines which NBC Sports is already playing up for the Sunday Night telecast from Candlestick Park of the….

San Francisco 49ers vs. the Detroit Lions!

Oh, there is nothing quite like Candlestick Park at night especially with the San Francisco 49ers playing the game of FOOTBALL again! (More on who is and who isn’t playing FOOTBALL below!)

Oh, the salty chilly air, the sound of pads hitting pads, helmets hitting helmets and a football team running a Power Sweep every once in awhile just to remind everyone that we are still playing the game of FOOTBALL!

Can you say……SWEET!

Why yes we can!

No doubt, that 49ers win over the Packers on Sunday was as meaningful for San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh as it was for us here at Coaches Hot Seat because of the immense amount of respect that we share for the….

Great Vince Lombardi

YES, Vincent Thomas “Vince” Lombardi would have loved that 49ers – Packers game on Sunday and he would have particularly loved that San Francisco 49ers offense which runs when it can, passes when the opportunity presents itself BUT most of all the 49ers has an offense that plays the game of FOOTBALL!

Let’s have a great week at Stanford and at 49ers headquarters in Santa Clara and get TWO BIG WINS this weekend over those Bastards Trojans and the Detroit Lions!

“The spirit, the will to win and the will to excel – these are the things that endure and these are the qualities that are so much more important than any of the events that occasion them.”  Vince Lombardi

Stanford Cardinal and San Francisco 49ers:

Prepare like Hell and then…..Give ‘em Hell!
