There is very little Joy in Coaches Hot Seat-Ville on this Sunday evening after the Debacle in Chicago with the Europeans storming back to the BEAT the Americans in the 39 th Ryder Cup Matches which has to be one of the Biggest Collapses in World Sports History as one after another American golfer faltered down the stretch to basically…
Snatch Defeat From the Jaws of Victory
…and to lose to those Candy Ass Europeans….AGAIN!
That is now 7 of the last 9 Ryder Cup Matches that the Europeans have WON and to us is yet another example of the…
Age of the Candy Ass in America
….with the American People and even its brightest start like some of the best golfers in the world playing for the American side in the Ryder Cup Matches getting weaker and weaker as our allies and enemies around the world are holding their own or even getting stronger.
One of the most dispiriting things that we see here at Coaches Hot Seat is what Mike Kepka of The City Exposed column wrote about in a recent column of his…
…which details that most of the people walking around the beautiful city of San Francisco actually spend most of their precious time on this Earth…
Looking into the screens of their phones!
Geez, one day in the future some anthropologist will be studying the early 21 st century and he (or she) will be looking at videos and photographs of this time and he will wonder to himself just why in the Hell were rational and thinking human being spending most of their precious time walking around…
Looking into the screens of their phones!
Uhhhh, we can answer that question for that future anthropologist right now….
These human beings that spend most of their time on this Earth walking around….
Looking into the screens of their phones!
….have LOST their Freaking Minds!
In case you didn’t know it that America is now living in the….
Age of the Candy Ass
….in our country right now is a very Damn serious issue because a populace that is focused more and more on un-serious, trivial and downright STUPID things like…
Looking into the screens of their phones!
….all day long is one of the sure signs of a country or in the case of the American Republic an EMPIRE in decline and for those American parents out there that are raising their pre-college children right now we only can hope that you are making Damn sure your children are not wasting their lives…
Looking into the screens of their phones!
…and that you are preparing them for the rigors of 21 st century life which are going to only get more difficult in the future as America deals with ever more random and unknown threats….think terrorists with weapons of mass destruction….and the very troubling rise of a country like China which is run by the Communist Chinese “leadership” which didn’t rise up through Chinese Communist ranks by being nice people BUT rather these are very EVIL Bastards now running China that rival the dictators and fascists of the 20 th century that ended up slaughtering or caused the deaths of Tens of Millions of Human Beings as they pursued their EVIL aims.
How did we get from the Americans losing the Ryder Cup Matches to the EVIL Bastards now running Communist China?
It’s a lot straighter of a line than you can probably imagine BUT we have no doubt America and China are on a collision course and unless China is forced by the Chinese People to become more democratic, more free and more like Western nations….
…..sometime in this century the American Republic will have to confront directly China’s increasing aggressive expansion in Asia and Africa as they pursue more and more of the world’s natural resources and the Bottom-Line is that IF a majority of American kids today are raised to be Candy Asses that could NEVER fight for and defend the American Republic…..THINK kids spending all of their time…
Looking into the screens of their phones!
….and that waste their precious time on this Earth worrying about un-serious, trivial and downright STUPID things there WILL BE time in America’s future when the American Republic will have a populace of mindless drones that care only about their own selfish wants and needs that also happen to be Candy Asses and there you have what the Roman People were like at the end of the Roman Empire and what the British People look like today as they watch their former EMPIRE the United Kingdom crumble around them and become a smaller and smaller player on the world stage as each year advances.
Former US Marine in Vietnam and now author Bing West is right that when it comes to being tough and war fighting America’s armed forces and active duty military are still…
…in the world today BUT for how long that is the question and the American golfers falling to pieces like Candy Asses coming down the stretch against those Candy Ass Europeans is just another small marker on the same road that the two other Western EMPIRES of Rome and the United Kingdom traveled down towards their destruction and unraveling AND on that cheery note we are thankful that we could drown our sorrows of America losing the Ryder Cup Matches in the drink and music of the Great Jimmy Buffett!
Make the Margaritas and DRINK UP and that is exactly what we did here at Coaches Hot Seat on Sunday night!
They don’t like to hear the TRUTH Johnny but give it to them anyway!
1. Frank Spaziani, Boston College – Frank Spaziani’s BC Eagles played pretty well against a very good Clemson football team BUT in the end there is just not enough talent on this Boston College team especially in the area of team speed to compete against the best teams in the country and the next coach at BC will have to address that issue of team speed quickly or Boston College football will just continue to fall further and further behind the best teams in the ACC Conference and country.
Frank Spaziani’s record at Boston College in four seasons is now…
Overall: 21 – 22 ACC: 12 – 14
…and Spaziani took over a BC football team that had won…
47 Games
…under former head coaches Jeff Jagodzinski and Tom O’Brien over the previous 5 seasons and if that isn’t going backwards then what the Hell is exactly?
We must note that as of Sunday September 30 Boston College AD Gene DeFilippo has stepped down from the athletic director position at BC and the BC Soaring website has some great insight into the damage inflicted by DeFilippo to the Boston College football program that was done in our opinion because Gene DeFilippo believes he is…
God’s Gift to Planet Earth
….and thus those that were sent by God often come up with absurd things like Gene’s reason to fire Jeff Jagodzinski which was Jeff interviewing for the New York Jets job which the last time we checked is a better job than BC and was only an American looking into a BETTER job which is what the American Republic is all about….right?
Well, not in Gene DeFillippo’s Pompous Arrogant Ass world is certainly the Hell wasn’t!
Here is the website BC Soaring’s take on the Boston College football program right now:
“There were issues surrounding the departures of certain coaches that remain mysterious. Cathy Inglese, Kevin Rogers, and Sylvia Crawley all come to mind. Boston College fans are well-acquainted with the expressed rationale behind Jeff Jagodzinski’s departure, though Inglese, Crawley, and Rogers just fell away (Crawley’s hire was probably a mistake in the first place, anyway). All of those personnel moves happened within the last four years or so, and some of them will never add up, such as Kevin Rogers’ “health reasons” abandonment, then taking a job at Temple shortly after the end of the season.
Despite there having been some good during Gene DeFilippo’s tenure in charge of Boston College Athletics, he has unquestionably damaged his legacy at this school thanks to the condition in which he left the football program. DeFilippo took over a department with a football program in turmoil, as Dan Henning drove the team into the ground and a gambling scandal further diminished the public’s opinion of it. DeFilippo and Tom O’Brien cleaned the program up, but fifteen years later, Eagles football finds itself with an overmatched head coach, hired for the wrong reasons, and a team that has not beaten ranked opposition in four years after having been a consistent, respected winner. Gene DeFilippo not only allowed it to happen, but flippantly dismissed the growing number of fans who desired change by publicly saying that their collective opinion “doesn’t matter.”
Boston College fans, over the last few years, have tied head coach Frank Spaziani to DeFilippo as a package deal. In many ways, their fortunes at this school mirror that. Both were generally well-liked early on, but as DeFilippo elevated Spaziani, the coach failed to deliver, and DeFilippo staunchly defended him, both of their legacies took a hit simultaneously. Several years of jointly presiding over the destruction of the foremost revenue sport will do that.”
Amen to that!
IF only Gene DeFilippo had only reacted as we do here at Mad As Hell And… when one of our employees notifies us that they are going to interview for a better position and that is to wish them Good Luck and to hope at the same time they decide to stay with us and usually if he or she is a very valuable employee…..as Jeff Jagodzinski was in 2008 after taking Boston College football to two straight ACC Conference Championship Games…to prepare a counter-offer if they are seriously considering taking the other job and leaving the firm.
More than likely Jeff Jagodzinski would have not been offered the New York Jets job under any scenario and Gene DeFilippo’s Pompous Arrogant Ass reaction to Jagodzinski even considering another job doomed DeFilippo’s future as he fired Jagodzinski and then hired Frank Spaziani and the rest is history as the Boston College football program has been on a path straight downward since.
Yes, Frank Spaziani is a good football coach BUT Frank Spaziani has so far proven to be not much of a HEAD football coach and since that is the job he now holds that means Gene DeFilippo failed in deciding to fire Jagodzinski and hire Spaziani and there is no Damn way of getting around that set of FACTS.
Up next for Boston College is a game at Army who now also has a coach on the Hot Seat in Rich Ellerson.
2. Jeff Tedford, California – Hey, we knew that San Francisco Chronicle columnist Bruce Jenkins was a Cal-Berkeley alum BUT Bruce…
You were at Berkeley during the 1960s during the Free Speech and Free Love era?
Hell, we didn’t know you where THAT OLD Bruce!
We learned of Bruce Jenkins’ age from his SF Chronicle column over the weekend after Cal lost to Arizona State and this is a column that should send shockwaves through the Cal football program which is now reeling and could be headed towards a complete disaster of a season.
“As someone who has followed the Bears for 50 non-Rose Bowl years, including a memorable undergraduate experience in the turbulent late ’60s, I have a simple motto for Cal football: It never ends well. Simply never. As such, I look merely for entertainment on autumnal Saturdays, and in recent seasons I’ve found Tedford to be an honorable, likable man with a knack for recruiting talent.
He conducted a calm, forthright news conference after the game, assuring everyone that “we’re not gonna quit,” and I would find it distasteful to call for his head.
Then again, that’s not my call. I’ve heard that the Cal alumni haven’t mustered sufficient anger to force a coaching change and that the university wouldn’t consider buying out Tedford’s contract, paying him some $2.8 million annually through 2015. But that’s not what I was hearing Saturday.
Before the game, I visited a tailgate party full of wealthy, influential alums. One of them, particularly well-connected and in the know, cast a grim outlook on Tedford’s future. He asked not to be quoted by name, and that’s always an unsatisfying experience for the reader, but there are times when off-the-record comments reflect the tone of a crisis, and that could well be the case here.
“I’m the last one off the bus when it comes to (firing) Tedford,” he told me. “But we have to move on. His game management has been awful. I mean, that 4th-and-1 call at Ohio State (opting for a field goal) when we’d already racked up 500 yards! I like the guy, personally. This beautiful new stadium doesn’t get done without him. But it’s so frustrating. If this doesn’t turn around, I really think they’ll buy him out. I’m predicting that if we finish under .500, he’s gone.””
Uh, Oh….We have a pretty good idea of WHO that wealthy Cal-alum that Bruce Jenkins talked to about being the “last one off the bus when it comes to firing Tedford” and if HE is talking about California making a head coaching change then Jeff Tedford needs to start thinking about what he is going to be doing next football season because he will NOT be coaching the California Golden Bears.
We have always liked and had a lot of respect for Jeff Tedford here at Coaches Hot Seat and having seen Tedford behind the scenes at practice and other non-football events dozens of times over the past decade we can say that we have seen a very noticeable change in Jeff over the past few years and we would peg that change to be that very simply…..
Jeff Tedford is just NOT as hungry as he used to be to win games as he used to be when he first arrived at Cal when Tedford was one of the most driven coaches we had ever run across.
Now, we are confident that Jeff would argue with us on this point BUT that is our honest and “with the bark-on” opinion of why the California football program has faltered in recent years as the fire in Tedford’s gut has slowly been going out and now Jeff seems to be in a place where he seems resigned to his fate whatever may come.
One thing in Bruce Jenkins’ column on Jeff Tedford’s contract was the Complete ABSURDITY that Tedford if fired would be owed something like….
$8 Million Dollars through 2015
….because Cal like a lot of other schools that are run by people with NO Damn Business or Common Sense signed a contract with Jeff Tedford that has No Damn Buyout and what a surprise….NOT……that in our opinion Jeff Tedford’s motivation to coach, win and lead the California football program is just NOT there anymore and we blame that partly on Tedford and other coaches being given contracts the basically take away the incentive to coach, win and lead a football program with Completely ABSURD contracts for football coaches that don’t have reasonable and common sense buyouts for both the school and coach.
With the current state of the University of California system which has seen Billions of Dollars cut from its budget in recent years IF Cal is forced to fired Jeff Tedford for non-performance of his football team on the field then it will be very interesting to see what the reaction is on the Cal-Berkeley campus even IF the money comes from private and not school resources as it most certainly will because $8 Million Dollars is a Helluva lot of money to pay someone for doing….
NOTHING!
That would be $8 Million Dollars paid to a former head coach that would be doing…
NOTHING
…which is $8 Million Dollars that could be going to fund athletic scholarships at Cal or $8 Million Dollars that could be used to pay down the several Hundred Million Dollars in debt that Cal athletics has on the books right now for the renovation of Memorial Stadium!
As we said when it comes to guaranteed contracts with NO buyouts of college head football coaches you can cue Forrest Gump:
“As my Momma always said: Stupid Is As Stupid Does!”
Amen to that Forrest!
3. Robb Akey, Idaho – The hits just keep coming for Idaho head coach Robb Akey and his Vandals as they went to 0 – 5 on the season with a…
66 – 0
…LOSS to North Carolina in Chapel Hill which is no shame since UNC has four or five times the talent of Idaho BUT that loss to the Tar Heels runs Akey’s record at Idaho to…
Overall: 19 – 48 WAC: 9 – 30
We can only wonder even at Idaho are the above Win/Loss records for Robb Akey acceptable to the “Powers that Be” including the administration, alumni and a few boosters of the Vandals football program?
Hard to say BUT after a 2 – 10 season last year and now an 0 – 5 start to the 2012 season things cannot be COOL for Robb Akey’s rear-end about right now!
4. Derek Dooley, Tennessee – Tennessee had a very real shot to beat Georgia on Saturday BUT can’t you just hear Tennessee fans screaming that Tennessee football isn’t about…
“Having shots to win BIG games but WINNING BIG games?”
That is precisely Derek Dooley’s problem at Tennessee because Dooley has put up the follow records with the Vols…
Overall: 14 – 16 SEC: 4 – 14
…and the BIGGEST WIN during Dooley’s three seasons at Tennessee is which one of the below wins that are the only UT wins over legitimate football teams in the last three years?
NC State – 2012
Cincinnati – 2011 Vanderbilt – 2011
Ole Miss – 2010 Vanderbilt – 2010 Kentucky – 2010
Well, Cincinnati went 10 – 3 in 2011 so we would have to say that Derek Dooley’s BIGGEST WIN during his time at Tennessee is over…
Cincinnati!
Oh, that thought must warm the hearts of the fans of Tennessee football all over the Volunteer state!
NOT!
This is Tennessee football…..right?
Why YES it is and with Tennessee now at 3 – 2 on the season and having these games remaining in 2012…
At Mississippi State Alabama At South Carolina Troy Missouri At Vanderbilt Kentucky
….the good east Tennessee folks that provided us with some hilarious stories about Lane Kiffin’s one year in Knoxville which we retell with great relish to people in the Western United States that just LAUGH and LAUGH and LAUGH about the “Kiffer” tell us now that Derek Dooley MUST WIN…
6 Games in 2012 and go to a bowl game
(Hell, with the current Bogus bowl system where “Everyone’s a Winner” that will be easy enough with 6 wins! Yes, that sound you hear is the end of the American Republic as head coaches take mediocre to below average teams with 6 wins to bowl games for a “reward” which is exactly why 6 wins leading to bowl games is but one symptom of the destruction of America as excellence and achievement are continuously degraded downwards!)
…to return for the 2013 season and if Derek Dooley can’t find 3 WINS out of these remaining 7 games…
At Mississippi State Alabama At South Carolina Troy Missouri At Vanderbilt Kentucky
….then Barbara Dooley’s “Baby” should be fired!
5. Randy Edsall, Maryland – Randy Edsall’s Maryland football team had a bye in Week 5 and now they start-up ACC Conference play again this coming Saturday with a game at home in College Park, MD against Wake Forest which is coming off a loss to Duke.
Now at 2 – 2 on the season Randy Edsall and Maryland REALLY need this win over Wake Forest especially with these games remaining after the Demon Deacons:
At Virginia NC State At Boston College Georgia Tech At Clemson Florida State At North Carolina
Randy Edsall REALLY needs 6 wins in 2012 and with 8 games remaining if Edsall can’t get 4 more wins then there will have to be some serious questions asked in College Park about the direction and future of the Maryland football program under Randy Edsall……or someone else.
6. Joker Phillips, Kentucky – Was it just us or did Kentucky seem to play with a lot more fire and passion against South Carolina than they did in their first four games of the season?
Yes, it could have been us but the Kentucky defense seemed to play with a lot more fire and passion against the Gamecocks and if UK had played with that fire and passion all season they probably would have a better record than 1 – 4 right now and with these games remaining…
Mississippi State At Arkansas Georgia At Missouri Vanderbilt Samford At Tennessee
….it is going to be tough slog for Kentucky to get to 6 wins in 2012 and that may be what Joker Phillips needs to return for the 2013 season.
7. Kevin Wilson, Indiana – Kevin Wilson’s Indiana football team played a little better against Northwestern than it has played in the games we have seen under Wilson at IU over the past two seasons BUT Indiana’s records under Wilson are…
Overall: 3 – 13 Big Ten: 0 – 9
…and the coach that Wilson replaced at Indiana, Bill Lynch had records of…
Overall: 19 – 30 Big Ten: 6 – 26
…and as mediocre as Lynch’s records were at IU Kevin Wilson is not even hitting that mark right now.
Up next for Indiana:
Michigan State Ohio State At Navy At Illinois Iowa Wisconsin At Penn State At Purdue
Oh, this could be a LONG season for Indiana football!
8. Rich Ellerson, Army – We here at Coaches Hot Seat got to see at least half-a-dozen games coached by Rich Ellerson when he was at his previous head coaching job before taking over at Army which was Cal Poly and we were always impressed with Ellerson’s teams at Cal Poly and we had high hopes for Coach Ellerson at Army BUT over the last two years the Cadets have really struggled….
2011: 3 – 9 2012: 0 – 4
…which now includes Army losing to I-AA Stony Brook at home at West Point on Saturday which is a loss that should NEVER happen to an academy school because the academies should always have more talent that most I-AA schools and they should certainly play with more discipline.
Army is now 0 – 4 on the season and they have left…
Boston College Kent State At Eastern Michigan Ball State Air Force At Rutgers Temple Navy
…and that is going to be one tough haul to get to 6 wins and a postseason bowl game trip.
9. Charlie Weis, Kansas – Kansas had a bye in Week 5 and now at 1 – 3 on the season they now have to deal with this schedule…
At Kansas Oklahoma State At Oklahoma Texas At Baylor At Texas Tech Iowa State At West Virginia
….and if Kansas football wins another game in 2012 we will be SHOCKED!
10. Dan Enos, Central Michigan – To show the power of the MAC Conference and the Weakness of the Big Ten look no further than Central Michigan which in Week 4 BEAT…
Iowa
…but in Week 5 got BEAT by…
Northern Illinois
….by 55 – 24!
Dan Enos’ records at Central Michigan are now….
Overall: 8 – 20 MAC: 4 – 13
…and at 2 – 2 on the year Enos’ challenge is to find a way to get to 6 wins in 2012 or FOUR MORE WINS playing these 8 remaining games…
At Toledo Navy Ball State Akron Western Michigan At Eastern Michigan Miami, Ohio At UMass
…and that seems doable to us but actually doing it is another thing entirely!
