1. Frank Spaziani, Boston College – After winning the ACC Atlantic Division in back-to-back years in 2007 and 2008 and posting a 20 – 7 record over those two seasons the Boston College football program was riding high and then someone’s MASSIVE EGO got bruised when then BC head coach Jeff Jagodzinski interviewed for the head coaching position with the NEW YORK JETS and that MASSIVE EGO that got bruised was then BC athletic director Gene DeFilippo who put his MASSIVE EGO ahead of what was best for…
Boston College Football
Boston College Athletics
And
Boston College
….and fired Jeff Jagodzinski for only doing what Millions of Americans do every year and DON’T GET FIRED for doing it and that is interview for a…
BETTER JOB!
Since Jeff Jagodzinski was fired by the MASSIVE EGO in December 2008 the Boston College Football program over the last FOUR seasons under current head coach Frank Spaziani has put up a record of…
21 – 23
….OR rather Frank Spaziani has won ONE MORE GAME in four seasons at BC than Jeff Jagodzinski won in TWO SEASONS at BC!
Yes, that was a good move there MASSIVE EGO……NOT!
On Saturday the path chosen by the MASSIVE EGO hit rock bottom with the Boston College football team losing to…
ARMY
…who only the week before had lost to FCS (I-AA) school…
Stony Brook
…and the score in that game was…
Stony Brook – 23
Army – 3
Guess what that proves?
The Stony Brook University football team is AT LEAST…
20 points BETTER than Boston College football
….even though Boston College spends more than SIX TIMES what Stony Brooks does on their football program (Equity in Athletics website)!
Boston College Football
Expenses – $18.6 Million Dollars Revenues – $20.5 Million Dollars
Stony Brook Football
Expenses – $3.5 Million Dollars Revenues – $1.3 Million Dollars
Please, is there someone at Boston College that can stop this madness like…
The Boston College President Father William P. Leahy who holds a Ph.D. in history from Stanford University which means he at least has some basic common sense!
Memo to Father William P. Leahy, President Boston College – We have rarely run across a man of the cloth that is involved in intercollegiate academic administration that didn’t have at least some competitive fire in him so we were wondering if you are going to allow the Notre Dame football program rebuild itself under Brian Kelly while BC football is wallowing in the mud OR are you going to go out and find yourself a FOOTBALL COACH?
Find yourself a FOOTBALL COACH Father Leahy….A FOOTBALL COACH!
2. Derek Dooley, Tennessee – With Tennessee football having a bye in Week 6 on Saturday we called one of our East Tennessee buddies to get the temperature of Derek Dooley’s rear-end and wouldn’t you know it our East Tennessee buddy was sitting in his backyard on the Tennessee River talking with his UT friends about the temperature of Dooley’s rear-end as well!
After him telling us that the SEC East Division was better than the SEC West (he might be right!) we asked him straight out how many wins does Derek Dooley need to return to coach the Vols in 2013:
East Tennessee Buddy: Dooley really needs 7 wins this season to return in ’13 but he might be able to get by with 6 wins if we cannot get the coach I think Tennessee would want to hire if they replaced Dooley and they may not be able to get him with the Arkansas job for-sure opening up at the end of the season.
Derek Dooley and Tennessee are now at 3 – 2 and they have left…
At Mississippi State Alabama At South Carolina Troy Missouri At Vanderbilt Kentucky
…and if you ASSUME that Tennessee will beat Kentucky at home to end the season and that Tennessee has next to NO chance to beat Alabama and South Carolina that means Dooley needs 3 wins out of the following four games:
At Mississippi State Troy Missouri At Vanderbilt
…to hit the 7 wins in 2012 mark.
YES, this coming Saturday’s Tennessee at Mississippi State game is HUGE for Derek Dooley’s future and a BIG game for Mississippi State as well as the Dogs try to start the 2012 season at 6 – 0 and with only Middle Tennessee left before MSU plays Alabama in Tuscaloosa on October 27…..
Is the Game of the Century in 2012….
Mississippi State at Alabama?
Whatever that game is Mississippi State is a MUST Win Game for Derek Dooley and the Vols!
Here’s a little song for our East Tennessee buddy by the Great Band Alabama which used to be led before they ended their run by the Great Randy Owenwho is one of the best people we have EVER run across in our travels in this great country of ours…..
…for ANY Auburn Football team to lose to an Arkansas football team that has basically quit on their interim head coach and only a week earlier had lost to Texas A&M…
58 – 10
…and A&M has a FIRST YEAR head coach in Kevin Sumlin and Gene Chizik is in his FOURTH SEASON at Auburn!
There are now only a few numbers that matter to Gene Chizik’s future and those numbers are…
Gene Chizik’s record at Auburn WITH Cam Newton
Overall: 14 – 0 SEC: 8 – 0
Gene Chizik’s record at Auburn WITHOUT Cam Newton
Overall: 17 – 14 SEC: 7 – 12
YES, you read that right….
Not counting the 2010 season WITH Cam Newton as the QB at Auburn Gene Chizik’s SEC record is….
7 – 12
Oh, by the way, 10 of Auburn’s 17 WINS not counting the Cam Newton year are out-of-conference WINS over these teams…
2012 – La. Monroe
2011 – Utah State, Florida Atlantic, Samford, Virginia
2009 – La. Tech, West Virginia, Ball State, Furman, Northwestern
NOT counting the Cam Newton season how many GOOD or GREAT teams has Gene Chizik WON at Auburn?
ZERO.
PERIOD.
Clearly the Auburn offense is in disarray as the Auburn coaches are trying to have their quarterback Kiehl Frazier that has run a spread offense his entire life run a pro-style attack which would be like having one of the Coaches Hot Seat Flag Football QBs run the spread offense when they can’t outrun Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies but they sure the Hell are more accurate passers than 90 plus percent of the QBs now playing Major College Football which translates in Southern English to…
“It just ain’t going to work!”
Here’s the REAL problem for Auburn football and Gene Chizik right now:
Auburn is 1 – 4 overall and 0 – 3 in the SEC and they have left…
At Ole Miss At Vanderbilt Texas A&M New Mexico State Georgia Alabama A&M Alabama
….and in the ONLY 5 games remaining that matter….meaning the New Mexico State and Alabama A&M games mean NOTHING AT ALL….IF Auburn plays like they have so far this season the Tigers will go…
0 – 5
…in those 5 SEC games leaving Auburn’s record at the end of the season at…
3 – 9
…with WINS over La. Monroe, New Mexico State and Alabama A&M which would leave Gene Chizik’s record at Auburn WITHOUT Cam Newton under center at…
Overall: 19 – 19 SEC: 7 – 17
By comparison the THREE previous head coaches at Auburn before Gene Chizik put up these Overall and SEC records at the school:
Imagine for a moment that Auburn assistant Curtis Luper had not been able to talk Gene Chizik into taking Cam Newton out of that Texas junior college and Newton had instead went to Mississippi State how many wins do you think Auburn would have gotten in the year that Cam Newton WAS at Auburn?
By our estimation if Cam Newton HAD NOT played at Auburn in 2010 the Tigers would have instead of going 14 – 0 and winning the national title would have put up a regular season record of…
7 – 5
….AT BEST!
A couple of years ago a few of us were in Birmingham, Alabama the Friday before an Alabama football game in Tuscaloosa having lunch at a local barbeque joint….
…with a “person in the know” on sports in the state of Alabama and after us reading a column in the Birmingham News by a columnist named Kevin Scarbinsky that was written with a very pro-Auburn slant we asked about Scarbinsky and that “person in the know” on state of Alabama sports said to us (his opinion Kevin)…
“Scarbinsky doesn’t like Alabama but he just LOVES Auburn and Gene Chizik.”
Here was Kevin Scarbinksy’s column after Auburn’s loss to Arkansas:
Of course, in Scarbinsky’s above column we find out about another college head coach in Gene Chizik that was given an ABSURD CONTRACT by the administration at Auburn which would require a…..
$7.5 Million Dollar Payment
…if Auburn decided or were forced to fire Gene Chizik this season which brings ABSURDITY to a new level and very Damn soon we are going to open up a consulting company that will help athletic directors and college presidents negotiate and finalize contracts with head football and basketball coaches because right now all over America…
Athletic Directors, College Presidents and OUR Universities and College
…are getting ROLLED by these coaches and their agents with these ABSURD Contracts!
Geez, YOU, the Administration, ARE HIRING THE COACH not the other Freaking Way Around and YOU, the Administration, shouldn’t agree to a contract where YOU, the Administration, might in the future be paying a head football or basketball coach Millions of Dollars to do NOTHING after you have fired him after he failed in his job as the head coach at YOUR school!
Just since 2007 we have calculated that if Coaches Hot Seat had been sitting across the table from the agents of the coaches that have been fired because they FAILED IN THEIR JOBS we could have saved the 120 plus I-A (FBS) programs in excess of $75 Million Dollars just by negotiating Fair and Common Damn Sense contracts for head football and basketball coaches!
Will Auburn fire Gene Chizik if he goes 0 – 8 in the SEC in 2012 in his FOURTH season on the job?
We sure the Hell would but then we sure the Hell would have made Damn sure that Chizik would have had a buyout in the $2 to $3 Million Dollar range instead of $7.5 Million Dollars so that $$$$$$$$$$$$$ would not play a role in whether we would fire Chizik or not BUT since this ABSURD contract for Chizik is in place $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ will of course play a BIG role in the decision to keep or fire Chizik at the end of this season which could see Auburn go WINLESS in SEC play!
What is the requirement to be an athletic director at a I-A school?
Evidently you must have the ability to get ROLLED by agents who often in the case of the SEC Conference means an agent that has a Little Debbie Swiss Roll snack cake in one hand as he is ROLLING the SEC athletic directors in the other!
Hell, let’s just go ahead and open the Coaches Hot Seat Consulting business right now!
For $10,000 Dollars we will tell any athletic director and college president when they are negotiating with a new or current football or basketball head coach….
What the head coach should be paid in every year of the contract.
What the head coach’s buyout should be in Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and we don’t recommend ANY COACH get a contract longer than five years!
What the head coach should pay the school if he wants out of the contract to go to another school in each Year of the contract.
What things should fall under “for cause” that the school could fire the coach for NO BUYOUT.
What incentives work best to motivate a head coach to do his Damndest to WIN football games and graduate his players in every year of the contract.
AND Most Importantly for the school securing the services of Coaches Hot Seat Consulting….
The same people that helped bring down this….
….would naturally have an edge when sitting across from an agent negotiating a contract since we would naturally “have a good idea” what the agent was hoping to get in the contract for the coach he is representing!
Hell, if EVERY school that had hired Coaches Hot Seat Consulting that had to fire their head football and basketball coaches in just the last FIVE years there would have been a Helluva lot of money saved by OUR colleges and universities and in the case of Auburn University IF Auburn does or is forced to fire Gene Chizik this season it would have ended up saving around…
$4.5 Million Dollars
….because there is NO Chance in Hell we would have agreed to a contract with Gene Chizik even after the National Championship season of 2010 that didn’t have a buyout in it and a buyout that was no more than $3 Million Dollars if he had to be fired for non-performance during any point of the contract.
4. Jeff Tedford, California – California got a much-needed win over UCLA on Saturday night not that those Coaches Hot Seat members that didn’t go to the San Francisco Giants – Cincinnati Reds game on Saturday evening got to see the UCLA – California game because we had the bad luck of being at a friend’s house in the Bay area on Saturday night which is a house that is easily worth north of $5 Million Dollars BUT he only has DirecTV and since the Pac-12 Network can’t seem to cut a deal with DirecTV to get their programming on their satellite system it seems that EVEN IF you are sitting in a house worth more than $5 Million Dollars you still CAN’T watch the Pac-12 Network and games like UCLA – Cal this past Saturday!
If that doesn’t spell…
S – T – U – P – I – D
..then we don’t know what the Hell does and at the Stanford game on Saturday afternoon a network TV honcho told us that we shouldn’t EVER expect the Pac-12 Network to be on DirecTV as long as Larry Scott is the commissioner of the Pac-12 because….
“Scott is in a pissing contest with DirecTV and the reason a deal hasn’t been cut is because Scott doesn’t have it in him to admit to the Pac-12 college presidents that the Pac-12 Network is only going to make 70% or so of what he said it would make.”
Oh, that’s Just FREAKING Great! We have an Overeducated Ivy League Candy Ass in a Pissing Contest with an Overeducated East Coast Elitist Candy Ass with both of them trying to prove they are “tough” when neither one of them would last five seconds in the US Military and certainly would be hiding out in the Canadian Rockies if OUR country ever got into another REAL shooting war!
Hey that sounds a Helluva lot like the current Presidential Race and YES the above is OUR opinion!
Getting back to Jeff Tedford after the win over UCLA the Cal Bears are…
2 – 4
..on the season and they have left..
At Washington State Stanford At Utah Washington Oregon At Oregon State
….and we were told by a wealthy Cal alum in San Francisco on Sunday that the word around the Bay area is that IF Jeff Tedford loses to Stanford in the BIG Game OR has a less than .500 record in 2012 then the Tedford era at Cal will end come December and which will open up in our opinion one of the better head coaching jobs west of the Mississippi River because a head coach with the right skill-set that combines GREAT recruiting and GREAT coaching can WIN BIG with California football.
So, Jeff Tedford evidently needs to BEAT Stanford in the BIG Game and find four more wins which means this weekend’s game at Washington State is HUGE for Tedford’s future at Cal!
5. Joker Phillips, Kentucky – The worst number for Joker Phillips is his win/loss record in the SEC….
SEC: 4 – 15
….in his three seasons on the job and now at…
Overall: 1 – 5 SEC: 0 – 3
…in 2012 and with these games remaining…
At Arkansas Georgia At Missouri Vanderbilt Samford At Tennessee
….and with a lot of uncertainty to say the least at QB for the Wildcats there is a very REAL chance that Kentucky does not win an SEC game in 2012 which would leave Phillips’ SEC record at…
4 – 20
….at the end of this year which would be a .166 winning percentage in conference play.
That is WHY Joker Phillips is on the Hot Seat and that Seat is getting HOTTER as the season goes along!
6. Robb Akey, Idaho – Great News for Idaho football and the Vandals head coach Robb Akey on Saturday as they BEAT…
New Mexico State
…to win their FIRST game of the year BUT Robb Akey’s record at Idaho in his SIXTH year on the job is…
Overall: 20 – 48 WAC: 10 – 30
….and even at Idaho that may not be good enough for Akey to return in 2013….unless of course Idaho football and athletics drops down to the Big Sky Conference and they give Akey a chance to see what he can do on the FCS (I-AA) level with the Vandals!
7. Kevin Wilson, Indiana – Kevin Wilson and his Hoosiers had Michigan State down…
27 – 14
…at the half on Saturday and we thought for awhile there that Wilson was going to get his FIRST win in Big Ten play as the IU head football coach BUT….
Michigan State shutout the Hoosiers in the second half
…and Indiana lost 31 – 27 to the Spartans and that leaves Wilson’s record at IU in his second season at…
Overall: 3 – 14 Big Ten: 0 – 10
Ouch and when does basketball season begin for Indiana again?
That would be on November 1 when Indiana basketball plays Indiana Wesleyan which is about 40 days BEFORE the college basketball season should begin but then it would take college presidents that actually gave a Damn about the student-athletes on their campuses to turn college basketball back into a ONE SEMESTER sport plus a few tournaments over the Holiday Period in December of each year and don’t count on something like that happening anytime soon since there is…
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
….to be made and thus the ABSURDITY of college basketball starting play in November!
Do any of these college and university presidents give TWO RIPS about the basketball student-athletes on their campuses?
It seems like the answer to that question is…..HELL NO!
8. Charlie Weis, Kansas – Hey, the Kansas Jayhawks had Kansas State tied after one quarter at…
7 – 7
…BUT alas the final score of the Kansas – Kansas State game was…
Kansas State – 56 Kansas – 16
YES, the Kansas student newspaper was right about the Kansas football team being ROADKILL!
Kansas is now 1 – 4 on the season and their ONLY win is over FCS (I-AA)…
South Dakota State
…and with this schedule left…
Oklahoma State At Oklahoma Texas At Baylor At Texas Tech Iowa State At West Virginia
….at the end of the season it is our opinion that Kansas will have ONLY ONE win and that ONE WIN will be over FCS (I-AA)….
South Dakota State!
Oh, and again NO SURPRISE here with Charlie Weis that Kansas signed Weis to a 5 Year Contract that GUARANTEES to pay him…
$2.5 Million Dollars A Year
…for five years or a total of $12.5 Million Dollars for the term of the contract and the buyout in Weis’ contract is NOT in the case that Kansas has to fire Weis BUT if Weis wants to leave Kansas for somewhere else with (From AP story from December of last year on Kansas hiring Charlie Weis):
“Weis has a buyout clause in his contract that guarantees the school $2.5 million if he leaves before Dec. 31, 2014, and $1.5 million if he leaves before Dec. 31, 2016.”
…which may be the MOST laughable thing we have read in a college coach’s contract since we would love someone at the University of Kansas to tell us just who in the Hell is going to hire Charlie Weis?
Now imagine for a moment that Coaches Hot Seat Consulting had been brought in by the Kansas AD and told that he wanted us to negotiate a contract with Charlie Weis’ agent to hire Weis as the next head coach at Kansas to which we would have said…
“Why in the Hell are you hiring Charlie Weis to be head coach at Kansas? Have you lost your FREAKING mind?”
….but putting that aside for a moment and Coaches Hot Seat completely understanding what Charlie Weis was making as the offensive coordinator at Florida ($765,000) and that Florida head coach Will Muschamp was about to fire Weis just a day or two before Kansas hired Weis we would have told Charlie Weis and his agent that below is what Kansas is willing to pay you and you can TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT!
Charlie Weis Contract Terms with Kansas as offered by Coaches Hot Seat:
Salary Year 1 – $1.5 Million Dollars Year 2 – $1.75 M Year 3 – $2.00 M Year 4 – $2.25 M Year 5 – $2.5 M
Buyout Amount for Kansas athletics to BUYOUT Charlie Weis at anytime during the contract for ANY REASON:
Year 1 – $1.5 M Year 2 – $1.25 M Year 3 – $1.0 M Year 4 – $1.0 M Year 5 – $1.0 M
Yes, Charlie Weis and his agent….TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT!
Believe us they would have TAKEN THE ABOVE DEAL and if Kansas had not hired Charlie Weis last December Charlie Weis in our opinion would be unemployed right now or rather Weis would be living off of the Tens of Millions of Dollars that some Very Stupid Damn People at Notre Dame agreed to pay Weis in another stupid contract given to Charlie!
PERIOD.
Considering the FACT that Charlie Weis’ record at Notre Dame during 5 seasons coaching the Irish was…
35 – 27
…which is a school where Captain Kangaroo….
…could win 7 games a year we still have not figured out why in the Hell that Kansas hired Charlie Weis!
Our prediction: Kansas will have to fire Charlie Weis before or at the end of his third season at KU which under Weis’ current contract will cost Kansas at least…
$5 Million Dollars
…for the final two years on this contract with KU and if Coaches Hot Seat Consulting had been on the job Charlie Weis’ buyout would have cost the school…
$1 Million Dollars
..for a savings of…
$4 Million Dollars
….minus the Coaches Hot Seat Consulting fee of $10,000 so the University of Kansas would have saved…
$3.990 Million Dollars!
Of course, the Coaches Hot Seat members actually have Common Sense and REAL World Experience in the REAL World which is a place where only Idiots give guaranteed Multi-Million Dollar contracts to mediocre people which is much different than the Fantasyland of a college campus where Howdy Doody…
…could show up tomorrow at most college campuses and be in a Dean of the Schools of Arts & Sciences making $300K a year basically doing nothing FREAKING at all!
9. Dan Enos, Central Michigan – To show to everyone just how BAD the Big Ten really is we have Central Michigan which BEAT Big Ten Conference member Iowa in Iowa City in Week 3 and Central Michigan then turned around and lost to MAC Conference teams…
Northern Illinois and Toledo!
Dan Enos took over a very STRONG Central Michigan football program from the two previous head coaches at CMU in Brian Kelly (now at Notre Dame and Butch Jones (now at Cincinnati) and Enos’ record at Central Michigan is…
Overall: 8 – 21 MAC: 4 – 14
….and from where we sit that is clearly taking the Central Michigan football program BACKWARDS.
PERIOD.
10. Randy Edsall, Maryland – Hey, after Maryland’s 19 – 14 win at home over Wake Forest the Maryland Terrapins are in…
FIRST PLACE
…in the ACC Atlantic Division ahead of both Florida State and Clemson!
Anyone want to bet on Maryland WINNING the ACC Atlantic Division this season?
Didn’t think so!
In his second season on the job Randy Edsall’s record at Maryland is…
Overall: 5 – 12 ACC: 2 – 7
…and now at 3 – 2 on the season with these games left…
At Virginia NC State At Boston College Georgia Tech At Clemson Florida State At North Carolina
…if Maryland can get just a little better play from their offense they could beat any and all of their next four opponents BUT we give very little chance to the Terrapins to beat Clemson, Florida State and North Carolina to finish the season.
Memo to Randy Edsall: You REALLY NEED to win at least 3 of your next 4 games to get to 6 wins on the year and get to a bowl game because if you don’t get to at least a .500 record in 2012 and don’t get those bowl practices for your younger players in December your head coaching career will be on life support and the oxygen tanks are running very Damn low!
