Coaches Hot Seat in the Great State of Ohio For the Coming Election and On Wednesday We Were In Cincinnati For the San Francisco Giants – Cincinnati Reds Game at Great American Ball Park and We Believe We Saw ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit! – Herbie: If You Are At the Giants – Reds Game On Thursday Here Is the Verification – Identification System We Will Use To Verify That It Is Really YOU and We Are REALLY Coaches Hot Seat If We Meet Up at the Game! – James Bond, The Fighting Frenchman and “Using Code Words!” – Week 7 Coaches Hot Seat MUST Win Games for Coaches and Teams – GO GIANTS! – BEAT THE REDS!

Most of the Coaches Hot Seat members are in the Great State of Ohio this week working on the 2012 Election as they are out walking and talking to Ohioans about getting out to vote on November 6 and on Wednesday we motored on down to Cincinnati from Columbus to see the San Francisco Giants come storming back to tie the NLDS series with the Cincinnati Reds 2 – 2 games each at Great American Park and we are fired-up to see the Giants play the Reds on Thursday at lunch to see who will advance to the NLCS!

At the Giants – Reds game on Wednesday we could have sworn that we saw ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit….

….who is probably a Cincinnati Reds fan from his days growing up in Ohio although Kirk has now moved to Nashville, Tennessee and “Gone Country!”

Since there is a chance we might see Kirk Herbstreit again on Thursday at the Giants – Reds game and because we have something we need to talk to Herbie about we thought that in case we ran into Kirk that in order to verify that he is actually Kirk Herbstreit and that we are Coaches Hot Seat we could go ahead and set-up a message verification and identification system that will confirm that both He is REALLY Kirk Herbstreit and We are REALLY Coaches Hot Seat!

Kirk Herbstreit – Coaches Hot Seat Verification and Identification System for the Giants – Reds Game at The Great American Ballpark on Thursday, November 11, 2012

First Off Kirk Herbstreit if someone walks up to you at Great American Ballpark and they are wearing a Stanford baseball cap…

…then that right off should be a clue that you are standing in front of a member of Coaches Hot Seat.

Since we might forget our Stanford baseball caps and we might be wearing San Francisco Giants baseball caps if someone walks up to you wearing a SF Giants baseball cap…

…then that should also be a clue that you could be standing in front of a member of Coaches Hot Seat.

Secondly to both confirm you REALLY are Kirk Herbstreit and we are REALLY Coaches Hot Seat we will use a Question – Answer Verification and this particular Question – Answer Verification will go like this:

The Coaches Hot Seat member will walk-up to you wearing either a Stanford or San Francisco Giants baseball cap and say the name of a James Bond Movie and then you Kirk Herbstreit will answer back who played James Bond in that movie.

Example:

Coaches Hot Seat member says:  Goldfinger

Kirk Herbstreit says:  Sean Connery

OR

Coaches Hot Seat member says:  Octopussy

Kirk Herbstreit says:  Roger Moore

That should be easy enough but if someone in a Stanford or San Francisco Giants cap walks up to you and says something like….

Pussy Galore

….you should not say “Goldfinger” Kirk Herbstreit since you are NOT talking to a member of Coaches Hot Seat since we will ONLY use the names of the actual James Bond movies and NOT character names!

Once we have confirmed both the identities of Kirk Herbstreit and Coaches Hot Seat the CHS member will just to make sure that someone that looks like Kirk Herbstreit isn’t reading this blog and knows the Verification – Identification System Question and Answer codes the CHS member will then ask Kirk Herbstreit a question in the form of a riddle and that question will be:

Coaches Hot Seat Member question to Kirk Herbstreit:  “Herbie, how do you whip a Fighting Frenchman from South Bend, Indiana?”

The Correct Answer:  Well, there are lots of “Correct Answers” to the above question but somewhere in the answer Herbie you have to include the following phrase:

“So the Germans could march in the shade.”

Example Answer for Herbie:  “I see a very tough and physical game between Stanford and Notre Dame on Saturday and if I know my world history and I do believe I know my world history the reason that the French planted trees along the Champs Elysees is “so the Germans could march in the shade!”

After Kirk Herbstreit has confirmed his identity with the James Bond question and works in “So the Germans could march in the shade” into his answer to the question/riddle then we can ask Kirk Herbstreit about the following thing:

Hopefully we will see you on Thursday Herbie at the Great American Ballpark to watch the San Francisco Giants WHIP the Cincinnati Reds as the GIANTS advance to the National League Championship Series for the SECOND TIME in the last three years!

GO GIANTS!

Week 7 Coaches Hot Seat MUST Win Games for Coaches and Teams

Jon Embree, Colorado vs. Arizona State – Jon Embree took over a Colorado football team that had won…

19 games overall

AND

10 conference games

…over the past five seasons under Dan Hawkins which is an average of…

3.8 games a year overall

AND

2 conference games a year

….so there is NO DOUBT that CU Buffs football was in disarray when Embree arrived in Boulder BUT Embree’s charge is to make Colorado football BETTER and with the following records to date…

Overall:  4 – 14
Pac-12:  3 – 8

….Embree MUST keep pushing his team forward and the Buffs MUST start winning some games that they are NOT supposed to win and amazingly to us Arizona State will arrive in Boulder on Thursday for a game with the Buffs as…

23 point favorites

….under first year ASU coach Todd Graham!

Arizona State is a 23 point favorite over Colorado in Boulder?

Wow!

Can Colorado BEAT the heavily favored Sun Devils at Folsom Field?

Only Jon Embree and his Colorado Buffs can answer that question in the affirmative by doing it on the field.

PERIOD.

Charlie Strong, Louisville vs. Pitt – Charlie Strong has his Louisville football team off to a nice 5 – 0 start in 2012 playing with a disciplined offensive approach and a very tough defense and now is when things start to get tough because as undefeated teams go along in a season they must raise their level of play a little bit more each week to adjust for tendency to relax once one is on top and this week’s game at Pitt is a classic game in that Louisville SHOULD BEAT Pitt….BUT….if the Cardinals don’t play their best football they will lose this game and hurt their chances to have an opportunity at the end of the season to do something really BIG.

Our experience over the years is that the more a team wants to win something like a conference or national championship the less they are willing to give up during their pursuit of that goal and if winning the Big East Conference is Priority One for Louisville the Cardinal players will come to play on Saturday against Pitt.

Kirk Ferentz, Iowa vs. Michigan State – Since Iowa last won the Big Ten championship in 2004 under Kirk Ferentz the Hawkeyes are…

31 – 26 in Big Ten play

…and with these games left on Iowa’s 2012 schedule…

At Michigan State
Penn State
At Northwestern
At Indiana
Purdue
At Michigan
Nebraska

…if the Hawkeyes play like they played in their first five games of 2012 Ferentz’s Big Ten record over the past eight seasons may be very close to…

.500

….not that Kirk Ferentz in our opinion gives two rips about that or not because whether Iowa football WINS or LOSES over the next decade or whether Ferentz is EMPLOYED or NOT EMPLOYED by Iowa over the next decade Ferentz will be paid more than…

$20 Million Dollars

….which in the Land of the Idiots otherwise known as Intercollegiate Athletics Administration the University of Iowa administration has brought….

Stupidity and Insanity

…to a NEW level!

Oh, how Kirk Ferentz’s agent must laugh, and laugh, and laugh about how Freaking Damn Stupid the people running Iowa Athletics are and how he and Kirk are laughing all the way to the bank where Iowa football WINS OR NOT!

Seriously, there are people in positions of power running college athletic departments all over America that if they were NOT working in the college athletics business would be doing the ONLY thing they are really qualified to do:

Shoveling Shit in west Texas with someone else who is also only qualified to Shovel Shit….

George W. Bush!

As a special ops friend of ours that retired in the last decade tell us when we talk about the Bogus Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan which our friend fought in:

“There is a special corner of Hell for someone that sends young Americans to war when he didn’t have the guts to go to war himself when he had the chance when he was young.”

Double Amen to that which puts George W. Bush on a Very Hot Damn Seat!

Please, would it be possible in 2016 for the Democratic, Republican and/or a New Third Party to NOT nominate Overeducated Ivy League Candy Ass Pussies that would be hiding out in the Canadian Rockies if America ever got into another REAL shooting war for the Presidency of the United States of America?

Is that really too much to ask?

We don’t think so!

Mack Brown, Texas vs. Oklahoma – YES, the Texas Longhorns are off to a 5 – 1 start in 2012 BUT Texas started the 2011 season off 4 – 0 before losing to Oklahoma in Week 5 in the Red River Rivalry which led to Texas losing…

5 of its last 8 games

…and thus why BEATING Oklahoma is so Damn important for Mack Brown to keep the rebuilding of the ‘Horns football program moving forward.

Lose to Oklahoma and the Longhorns have these games left…

Baylor
At Kansas
At Texas Tech
Iowa State
TCU
At Kansas State

….and not counting Kansas which is a SURE WIN the rest of the games on UT’s schedule will be tough games indeed.

Coach hard Mack Brown because a loss to OU with that high-scoring Baylor offense next could send YOU back to the Hot Seat!

Bob Stoops, Oklahoma vs. Texas – Since 2009 the Oklahoma Sooners under Bob Stoops have lost NINE Big 12 Conference games and when you are at OU where Gomer Pyle USMC…

…could put up .500 Big 12 conference records IF Oklahoma loses to Texas on Saturday with these games remaining…

Kansas
Notre Dame
At Iowa State
Baylor
At West Virginia
Oklahoma State
At TCU

….Bob Stoops may be headed to “Gomer Pyle USCM” territory in 2012 and with the Very High Standards we have for Oklahoma Football here at Coaches Hot Seat that would send Bob Stoops right towards the..

HOT SEAT!

Oh, Bob Stoops has such a high opinion of himself and thus such a BIG ego we really wonder if “Little Game Bob” could handle being on the Hot Seat!

Speaking of Gomer Pyle USMC otherwise known as Jim Nabors in the REAL world check-out Jim’s voice!

Tony Levine, Houston vs. UAB – After taking over a football team at Houston that won…

35 games

…over the last four seasons under previous head coach Kevin Sumlin the Cougars under Tony Levine started the 2012 season with three losses to Texas State, La. Tech and UCLA and now after back-to-back wins against Rice and North Texas it is up to Levine to keep things rolling at Houston with a win over UAB on Saturday.

Lose to UAB and Tony Levine will be headed back to the Hot Seat!

Gene Chizik, Auburn vs. Ole Miss – Talk about a MUST Win Game Auburn head coach Gene Chizik takes his Tigers to Oxford, Mississippi this weekend to play an Ole Miss team that has LOST…

16 Straight SEC Conference Games

….and to show just how far the Auburn football program has fallen the Tigers are…

6 point underdogs

…to Ole Miss which has NOT only LOST 16 Straight Conference Games BUT also has a first-year head coach in Hugh Freeze!

A week ago we believed that there was NO chance that Gene Chizik could be fired at the end of this season at Auburn especially with the $7.5 Million Dollar buyout that some Very Damn Stupid People at Auburn gave to Chizik in his new contract after Auburn won the 2010 national title WITH Cam Newton under center…

BUT

…if Auburn loses to Ole Miss and Vanderbilt on the road over the next two weeks and with only Georgia and Alabama left on the schedule for Auburn in SEC play then the “Powers That Be” at Auburn might just want to get AHEAD of Arkansas in the pecking order of the best available coaches in the country which is a reality that means that….

Ole Miss is a MUST Win Game for Gene Chizik and Auburn AND we are ALL going to find out just how good of a FOOTBALL COACH that Gene Chizik really is because this is a situation where GREAT COACHES rally their team to win games when everyone is counting them out and there are a lot of people saying that Auburn WILL NOT win another SEC game this season and if that isn’t OUT then we don’t know what OUT is!

A record to keep your eyes on:

Gene Chizik’s record at Auburn WITH Cam Newton under center:

Overall: 14 – 0
SEC: 8 – 0

Gene Chizik’s record at Auburn WITHOUT Cam Newton under center:

Overall: 17 – 14
SEC: 7 – 12

Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech vs. Duke – There have been a lot of defining games in Frank Beamer’s legendary and sure-fire College Football Hall of Fame coaching career BUT those are games that were on the positive side of the ledger and now Frank Beamer and his Hokies are facing a game on Saturday against Duke which may be the beginning of the end of Beamer’s coaching run at Va. Tech because if the Hokies CANNOT BEAT the Blue Devils on their home field which is a team that Va. Tech has four to five times more talent than then there is….

“Something rotten in Blacksburg.”

Duke is playing some very good football in 2012 and their only loss is to Stanford and IF Va. Tech doesn’t come to play their best game on Saturday then this is a game that the Blue Devils CAN and WILL WIN.

YES, Duke is a MUST Win Game for Frank Beamer and the Hokies!

Randy Edsall, Maryland vs. Virginia – Randy Edsall got his MUST Win Game last Saturday against Wake Forest and now at 3 – 2 on the season Edsall MUST WIN another game this week at Virginia in order to keep his movement down the Coaches Hot Seat Rankings.

In his second season at Maryland Randy Edsall’s records are….

Overall: 5 – 12
ACC: 2 – 7

…and with these games left…

At Virginia
NC State
At Boston College
Georgia Tech
At Clemson
Florida State
At North Carolina

…anything less than 3 wins out of the Terrapins remaining 7 games would be a Complete Disaster for Randy Edsall.

Charlie Weis, Kansas vs. Oklahoma State – Oh, Geez, has it really come to this at the University of Kansas?

Kansas football is bullying the Kansas student newspaper, USA Today

Charlie Weis has ONLY coached give games at Kansas and has put up a record of 1 – 4 and the Kansas athletic department is harassing the Kansas student newspaper?

Really?

Is Joseph Stalin or Vladimir Lenin running the University of Kansas?

NO, the chancellor of the University of Kansas is Bernadette Gray-Little and based upon the Kansas athletics department harassing the Kansas student newspaper because they might ask some tough questions to Ole’ Charlie at his press conferences makes us think that Gray-Little might have done her postgraduate work in Moscow!

Here’s an idea for Charlie Weis:

WIN SOME GAMES CHARLIE and you won’t have to worry about the Kansas student newspaper asking pointed questions about why YOUR team is NOT winning and you can get your ass of the Hot Seat as well!

Kansas plays Oklahoma State at home this week in Lawrence otherwise known as….

A Place Karl Marx Would LOVE!

…here at Coaches Hot Seat and Charlie and his Jayhawks can SHUT EVERYONE UP by doing one simple thing….

WINNING THIS GAME!

Oh, by the way the Oklahoma State Cowboys are 24 POINT FAVORITES over Kansas even though the game is being played in…

A Place Karl Marx Would LOVE! (Lawrence, Kansas)

Tommy Tuberville, Texas Tech vs. West Virginia – This game between Texas Tech and West Virginia is a match-up that when Tommy Tuberville was at Auburn he would often win because the Mountaineers are 3 point favorites over the Red Raiders and thus this makes it the PERFECT “laying in the weeds” game BUT will Texas Tech and Tubbs beat WVU on Saturday?

We obviously don’t know BUT this is a MUST Win Game for Texas Tech because of what comes next…

At TCU
At Kansas State
Texas
Kansas
At Oklahoma State
Baylor

…and save Kansas which should be a SURE WIN for the Red Raiders Tech will struggle to win the rest of their games in 2012!

Coach Hard Tubbs!

Frank Spaziani, Boston College vs. Florida State Boston College hired a solid AD in Ben Bates on Wednesday and with BC football headed off to play at Florida State on Saturday the thing to make sure of is that the BC football team continues to play hard on the field and maybe even more importantly when a school might be making a head coaching change is for the student-athletes continuing to go to class and keeping up with their studies so that BC football doesn’t lose any underclassmen to academic issues for 2013 which should always be a concern when a head coaching change is in the offing.

25 plus years ago a member of Coaches Hot Seat was on a college sports team that had a coach that was retiring at the end of the season and little did the CHS member know that there was an associate AD at the school that was specifically keeping a close eye on how the players on the team of the retiring coach were doing in the classroom and who was also getting notes from professors when the players on that team missed a class. This CHS member remembers vividly that as a sophomore in school being tracked down at his off-campus apartment only a few hours after he missed a physics class by someone from the athletic department to see why he had missed class that morning and the person from the athletic department found the CHS member at home in his apartment to sick to go to class and laid out on the couch while studying from his physics book and notes for test the next week.

Talk about attention to detail that was an athletic department that a long-time before there were all of these people on the athletic department payroll helping student-athletes with their studies you had an athletic department and athletic director that were focused on keeping their student-athletes eligible in the middle of a coach retiring and a new head coach being hired.

YES, Florida State is a MUST Win Game for Frank Spaziani and Boston College on Saturday and we don’t envy BC in this game after that disastrous loss by FSU last Saturday to NC State which the Seminoles will probably take-out on the Eagles!

Joker Phillips, Kentucky vs. Arkansas – Joker Phillips has been coaching since 1988 to get to the point where he is now as the head coach at his alma mater the…

University of Kentucky

….and now it is up to Phillips to get his UK football team playing at a level where Phillips will be able to keep this job he has worked so hard to get and that means getting his team ready for this Saturday’s game against Arkansas.

Kentucky REALLY needs to BEAT Arkansas on Saturday because of what comes next…

Georgia
At Missouri
Vanderbilt
Samford
At Tennessee

YES, Kentucky should beat Samford BUT I-AA school Samford is 5 – 1 on the season and is coached former Heisman Trophy winner Pat Sullivan so maybe even the Samford game is NOT a Sure-Win and that means that Kentucky REALLY NEEDS to beat Arkansas on Saturday.

Lane Kiffin, USC vs. Washington – Los Angeles Times columnist and general all-round Shit-Stirrer TJ Simers took it somewhat easy in his latest on Lane Kiffin…

USC’s Lane Kiffin is doing fine, paranoia and all, TJ Simers, LA Times

…BUT if USC loses to Washington on Saturday don’t be surprised if TJ is chewing Lane a new one in his next column and such is the life of a LA Times columnist in one of the strangest cities in the world.

A few of us here at Coaches Hot Seat actually lived and worked in the Los Angeles area for a time before we were married, had kids and were “settled down” (well, NOT really!) and we had a very simple rule about where we would and would not go during our travels in La-La Land.

Since we lived in beautiful Santa Monica the….

….on the Pacific Coast about 10 miles west of downtown Los Angeles we came up with a set of rules that both kept us out of most of the Madness of La-La Land but also kept us close to the cold beer, great restaurants and good looking women that tend to hang close to the beaches on the westside of LA!

Here is a map of Los Angeles depicting a BLUE AREA that we always tried to stay inside of which is to the WEST of downtown LA and the I – 5…

….and here were our THREE Rules for living in Los Angeles which we still stick-to today when visiting La-La Land!

FIRST Rule:  Stay as close to the beaches and Pacific Ocean as possible at ALL times!

SECOND Rule:  Do not go further East than Beverly Hills

THIRD Rule:  ALWAYS hug the Pacific Ocean preferably on Highway 1 when driving up or down the coastline near Los Angeles

We rarely broke the above THREE RULES except for one thing and that was to attend USC Trojans football games at the Los Angeles Coliseum (No, we didn’t go to many UCLA games at the Rose Bowl since….UCLA wasn’t very good!) and in those days before USC started buying up most of the land around the Coliseum you REALLY wanted to go to the USC games and get back to the Santa Monica as quickly as possible if you valued your life that is!

What does all of the above have to do with Lane Kiffin and the USC Trojans facing a MUST Win Game against the Washington Huskies on Saturday?

Not much….but there were these two blonde twins that a couple of us here at Coaches Hot Seat were dating while living in Santa Monica that bring back a lot of VERY GOOD memories and there are few things in life as good as the Santa Monica beach, a nice big blanket, a cooler filled with cold beer and a hot looking blonde on a warm (and moonless) California night!

Our wives don’t read this Coaches Hot Seat blog…..right?

YES, Lane Kiffin and the USC Trojans are facing a MUST Win Game against Washington on Saturday!

Kevin Wilson, Indiana vs. Ohio State – The Indiana Hoosiers football team looked a lot better last week against Michigan State BUT these days one really has to wonder….

Is the Big Ten even better than the MAC Conference?

Who the Hell knows, but what we do know is that Indiana is 2 – 3 on the season with wins against Indiana State and Massachusetts and they have left…

Ohio State
At Navy
At Illinois
Iowa
Wisconsin
At Penn State
At Purdue

….and that is a tough road to hoe even in the Pillow-Fight Big Ten.

Les Miles, LSU vs. South Carolina – Even at 5 – 1 on the season why do we get the feeling that the LSU football program is about to unravel as if no one in Baton Rouge has forgotten that debacle in the Superdome this past January when Alabama just flat-out…

Took Away LSU’s Manhood

…and so far the Bengal Tigers are still trying to get their Manhood back?

Because it is the TRUTH….in our humble opinion of course.

Here’s the problem that Les Miles has on his hands right now:

LSU almost lost to Auburn three weeks ago who just lost to a pitiful Arkansas team

LSU struggled with I-AA Towson two weeks ago

LSU lost to a Florida team that had a tough time putting away Texas A&M and Tennessee

South Carolina just crushed Georgia and the Gamecocks are due in Baton Rouge on Saturday night

AND

If South Carolina BEATS LSU in Baton Rouge or…GASP….crushed LSU and also takes away what is left of LSU’s Manhood then Les Miles may just wake-up Sunday morning with a team mutiny on his hands

AND

LSU has a trip to play Texas A&M in College Station a week from Saturday

AND

Alabama is due in Baton Rouge two weeks from Saturday

Coaches Hot Seat Conclusion:  The LSU football program is only one more bad game from unraveling and with South Carolina, at Texas A&M and Alabama lined-up next for the Bengal Tigers Les Miles might very well wake-up on the morning of Sunday November 4 and have an LSU team with a record of…

5 – 4

…which would be a Complete Disaster at LSU with all of the NFL talent now on their roster which means that November 10 game against Mississippi State would be the only thing between Les Miles and the…

HOT SEAT!

Derek Dooley, Tennessee vs. Mississippi State – The latest word out of Knoxville is that this weekend’s Mississippi State game is BIG for Derek Dooley’s future at Tennessee BUT Dooley will be back in 2013 IF he can get the Vols to at least 6 wins including beating Kentucky at the end of the season which is a BIG NO-NO at Tennessee evidently.

Right now the Vols are 3 – 2 and they have left…

At Mississippi State
Alabama
At South Carolina
Troy
Missouri
At Vanderbilt
Kentucky

With FOUR home games and THREE away games left it seems to us that IF Derek Dooley CANNOT get to at least SIX wins in 2012 then he should be fired because if you can’t win SIX games at Tennessee with Georgia State, Akron and Troy on your schedule that are Sure-Fire Wins then how in the Hell are you ever going to win the SEC Championship?

Answer: You aren’t!

Jeff Tedford, California vs. Washington State – On Saturday night in Pullman, Washington Cal head coach Jeff Tedford will be tasked with the most important job of his head coaching career as the Golden Bears take on Mike Leach’s Washington State Cougars and this game is so important to Tedford because IF Cal loses this game to a team in Washington State that won…

9 Games

…over the past 4 years under previous head coach Paul Wulff AND a team in WSU that has a first-year head coach in Mike Leach then one really has to wonder…

“Where exactly is Cal football going?”

California is now 2 – 4 on the season with these games left…

At Washington State
Stanford
At Utah
Washington
Oregon
At Oregon State

…and if Tedford does want to return for the 2013 season and we are not convinced that he REALLY does then he will need 6 wins in 2012 and that means Cal must win 4 of their remaining 6 games which makes this Saturday’s game against Washington State a…

MUST MUST WIN for the Cal Bears!
