Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Tuesday, October 16, 2012 – Marcus Aurelius

“A man should be upright, not be kept upright.”

And

“A man’s worth is no greater than his ambitions.”

And

“Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.”

And

“Be content with what you are, and wish not change; nor dread your last day, nor long for it.”

And

“Because your own strength is unequal to the task, do not assume that it is beyond the powers of man; but if anything is within the powers and province of man, believe that it is within your own compass also.”

And

And

“Nothing has such power to broaden the mind as the ability to investigate systematically and truly all that comes under thy observation in life.”

And

And

“Tomorrow is nothing, today is too late; the good lived yesterday.”

And

“Very little is needed to make a happy life; it is all within yourself, in your way of thinking.”

The Complete Disaster That Was This Past Weekend…..and Why We Will Get Up On Monday Morning and FIGHT Again….And Do So Because We Are AMERICANS! – Post Week 7 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings

The Complete Disaster That Was This Past Weekend…..and Why We Will Get Up On Monday Morning and FIGHT Again….And Do So Because We Are AMERICANS!

Geez, it is around Midnight here in San Francisco and there is…

NO Happiness in Coaches Hot Seat-Ville tonight!

Stanford LOSES to the Fighting Frenchmen from Notre Dame on Saturday

The San Francisco 49ers get CRUSHED by the New York Giants on Sunday

The San Francisco Giants get BEAT by the St. Louis Cardinals in Sunday night in Game 1 of the NLCS.

Is there a Full Moon out or something OR could it be…

SATAN?

(More on SATAN in a moment!)

Whatever the Hell Voodoo Hex has been laid upon our three teams of…

Stanford Football

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco Giants

….we are trying very hard to wash it all away with a few cocktails tonight in the City by the Bay and we are just lucky enough to have a Coaches Hot Seat member that has this view from his home that we can drown our sorrows in!

As always here at Coaches Hot Seat we have to “look to the future” and put our sorrows, our defeats our problems behind and go forward into that future and wake-up on Monday morning and…

Go To Work and Fight the Good Fight

…and we do that because we are AMERICANS and we thus know no other way to act.

Richard Nixon in his farewell speech to the nation made perhaps his greatest speech which Oliver Stone reproduced word-for-word with the Great Anthony Hopkins playing Richard Nixon in Stone’s movie of the same name.

Enjoy and Go Out and FIGHT on Monday and all the days that follow and do that because you are too an….AMERICAN!

Post Week 7 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings

1.  Frank Spaziani, Boston College – Talk about the “Tale of the Tape” the results of the Boston College – Florida State game over the past 5 years tell you ALL you need to know about the direction of the Boston College football program:

2008
Boston College – 27
Florida State – 17

Frank Spaziani took over as the head coach of BC in 2009

2009
Boston College – 29
Florida State – 21

2010
Boston College – 19
Florida State – 34

2011
Boston College – 7
Florida State – 38

2012
Boston College – 7
Florida State – 51

OUCH!

The last two seasons Boston College has LOST to Florida State by the combined score of…

89 – 14!

Frank Spaziani’s records at Boston College are…

Overall:  21 – 24
ACC:  12 – 15

…and barring BC winning 5 of their last 6 games….which is possible since anything is possible in America…over these teams…

At Georgia Tech
Maryland
At Wake Forest
Notre Dame
Virginia Tech
At NC State

….(with BC’s next game is against Georgia Tech in Atlanta and if the Yellow Jackets lose that game to the Eagles Tech head coach Paul Johnson is going to be on the Hot Seat and Paul Johnson really doesn’t want to be on the Hot Seat) the Frank Spaziani era will at BC will end come December and open up a job that we here at Coaches Hot Seat would LOVE TO HAVE since we LOVE Boston and would also LOVE the challenge of fighting and winning the ACC Conference Championship each season!

2.  Gene Chizik, Auburn – At risk of offending all of our good friends across the Deep South after some comments about SATAN last week by the wife of a coach on the Hot Seat we simply must venture into this whole “SATAN taking things away from people” thing and we will do it via a member of Coaches Hot Seat who when working in Atlanta, Georgia on the 1996 Olympics dated…..YES….”The Daughter of a Preacher Man” and…YES…the Coaches Hot Seat member says that the “Daughter of a Preacher Man” was able to “reach him!”

Actually, the Coaches Hot Seat member dated the daughter of a Southern Baptist minister and after dinner (no drinks) at the minister’s house one night the CHS member and the Southern Baptist Minister fell into a conversation about God, Heaven, Hell and of course….SATAN!

What the Coaches Hot Seat member recalls from that very interesting conversation with that Southern Baptist minister was the following with the Southern Baptist Minister saying:

“God’s will and hand play a major role in all of our lives and one cannot understand or question God’s will but merely accept it, deal with it and move on with the help of the Lord.”

That sounds like a pretty-straightforward explanation of current Southern Baptist theology to us and is about as consistent as one can get with the teachings of Jesus Christ BUT now let us turn to SATAN and we return to the conversation between the Coaches Hot Seat member and the Southern Baptist minister.

CHS Member:  “Sir, where does SATAN fit into your thinking on religion?”

Southern Baptist minister:  “Satan is everywhere in our daily lives and it exists in the form of temptations that offer you the chance to stray from the gospel and teachings of Jesus Christ and it is up to each individual to do his or her best to resist those temptations and live the very best life possible while they are on this Earth.”

Again, that sounds to us like fundamental Southern Baptist theology and please note in the above description of SATAN that SATAN does not…

“Take things away from people”

…BUT rather human beings by not living a “Godly life” and by “straying away” from the teachings of the gospel and Jesus Christ ALLOW SATAN to enter their life and control their actions.

Very simply:  SATAN, at least according to our understanding of Southern Baptist theology, does NOT TAKE AWAY anything until the person does something wrong to INVITE SATAN into their life by the actions of that individual.

Now that we have cleared up the FACT that SATAN has had nothing to do with Gene Chizik and the Auburn Tigers now sitting at…

Overall:  1 – 5
SEC:  0 – 4

…no more than SATAN had anything to do with Auburn landing Cam Newton before the 2010 season let’s just get down to the FACTS of where Gene Chizik stands right now at Auburn:

Gene Chizik is in his fourth season at Auburn and Chizk’s records are..

Overall:  31 – 15
SEC:  15 – 13

Gene Chizik’s records at Auburn WITH Cam Newton at QB are:

Overall:  14 – 0
SEC:  8 – 0

Gene Chizik’s records at Auburn WITHOUT Cam Newton at QB are:

Overall:  17 – 15
SEC:  7 – 13

YES, with that LOSS to Ole Miss on Saturday which won its first SEC Conference game since 2009 Gene Chizik is in a Helluva spot right now and SATAN has NOTHING TO DO WITH getting Chizik into that Helluva spot!

At 1 – 5 overall and 0 – 4 in SEC play the Auburn Tigers have left…

At Vanderbilt
Texas A&M
New Mexico State
Georgia
Alabama A&M
At Alabama

…and over the weekend we placed a call to our “person in the know” in the state of Alabama and asked him a simple question:

“Can Gene Chizik survive a record of 3 – 9 overall and 0 – 8 in the SEC with the only wins coming over La. Monroe, New Mexico State and Alabama A&M?”

Person in the Know in Alabama:  “Oh boy, that’s a tough one. Probably not unless Chizik agrees to renegotiate his contract to reduce his buyout in the future so that if 2013 is also a disaster at least Auburn wouldn’t again be on the hook for Millions of Dollars just to fire a football coach.”

Coaches Hot Seat:  “What if Chizik finishes at 3 – 9 overall and 0 – 8 in the SEC and Alabama beats Auburn by 40 in the Iron Bowl?”

Person in the Know in Alabama:  “Gene Chizik is finished whatever his buyout is.”

Coaches Hot Seat:  “Have you seen SATAN hanging around the Auburn football building lately?”

Person in the Know in Alabama:  “I haven’t been down to Auburn in awhile, but I am thinking if SATAN did show up at the Auburn offices offering to give Gene a little help this season in exchange for a little pain down the road Gene would at least listen to what SATAN had to say!”

Now that’s funny!

As for our personal views on SATAN here at Coaches Hot Seat we prefer to leave SATAN to the professionals such as the….Church Lady!

As for the importance of ALL Americans having perspective on how Very Damn Lucky they are JUST TO BE BORN in the United States of America forget about all the people that have died in battle and wars all over the world so you can enjoy the Freedom and Liberty you enjoy in America today if you have not read Howard Wasdin’s book…

SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper

….then you should go out and buy Howard’s book and read it right now AND you could also watch Howard Wasdin talking about his book recently on C-Span’s Book TV at a book festival in Virginia:

Seal Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy SEAL Sniper, C-Span Book TV

Just hit the above C-Span link and then hit the “Watch This Program” on the right-hand side of the webpage and sit back and learn about not only the sacrifices made by American military personnel all over the world so your precious ass can sit safely here in America we DOUBLY recommend that anyone living in Multi-Million Dollar homes that have husbands making Millions of Dollars a year watch Howard Wasdin’s presentation about his life and book to see just what in the Hell the…

REAL WORLD

…is actually like and again this has NOTHING TO DO WITH SATAN!

We have said it a dozen or so times in this CHS Blog and we will say it again:

The BEST thing that could EVER happen to the 120 plus College Head Football Coaches would be for them to spent 1 YEAR in the US Military serving overseas with their wives and children having to endure living alone in America as their husband was deployed for 6 months or more overseas while their family was making less than $50,000 a year!

Yes, that just might change the perspective of at least a few of these College Head Football Coaches that for some Damn reason have come to believe that because they can coach a “game” that they are thus….

God’s Gift to Planet Earth

…and all of us peons should get down on our knees and worship their Precious Asses and kiss the asses of their family members as well while we are down on our knees!

To that we say….take your Precious Asses and Stuff It Where the Sun Doesn’t Shine!

NEXT HOT SEAT COACH!

3.  Derek Dooley, Tennessee – It seems that whether Derek Dooley is coaching from the sidelines or coaching from the press box the Tennessee Vols keep losing and now in his third season at Tennessee and having put up these records….

Overall:  14 – 17
SEC:  4 – 15

…Derek Dooley with his Vols at 3 – 3 overall and 0 – 3 in SEC play is facing a crucial set of games coming up that will more than likely determine whether Dooley is coaching Tennessee in 2013 OR if Dooley is doing something else like TV work since Dooley would probably take having bamboo shoots being jammed under his fingernails rather than going back into the lawyering business as would anyone else with a working brain!

Oh, and by the way…..Alabama is due in Knoxville on Saturday!

Coach hard Derek Dooley and remember the paraphrased words of George Costanza as you think about your team playing Alabama:

“If you and your team BELIEVE they can beat Alabama then it is TRUE!”

At least until kickoff on Saturday night at 6:00 PM Neyland Stadium time!

4.  Joker Phillips, Kentucky – It’s “all in the direction” as in the DIRECTION of the Kentucky football team right now which has LOST FIVE STRAIGHT GAMES and is now sitting at…

1 – 6 overall

AND

0 – 4 in SEC play

…after the loss to woeful Arkansas on Saturday by a score of 49 – 7 and guess whose up next?

The Georgia Bulldogs!

OUCH!

Joker Phillips’ records at Kentucky are now at…

Overall:  12 – 20
SEC:  4 – 15

….which looks a Helluva lot like Derek Dooley’s records at Tennessee and thus why both Dooley and Phillips are now on the Hot Seat!

Joker Phillips and Kentucky REALLY NEED A WIN right now and with this schedule facing the Wildcats…

Georgia
At Missouri
Vanderbilt
Samford
At Tennessee

….that Tennessee game at the end of the season might very well be one between two Hot Seat coaches that will both be looking for jobs come December!

5.  Robb Akey, Idaho – Oh, MAN….if Idaho can lose to Texas State which is in its first year in I-A play by the score of….

38 – 7

…then the Idaho football program dropping down to the I-AA level and the Big Sky Conference might not be that good of an idea either because the Vandals right now would only be a mid-level Big Sky Conference football team!

Robb Akey’s records at Idaho are..

Overall:  20 – 49
WAC:  10 – 31

….and if Idaho is going to stay as a I-A school then they need a new head football coach BUT if they are going to drop down to I-AA and play football in the Big Sky Conference then give Akey another year to see what he can do and if he can’t win in the Big Sky Conference then Idaho will REALLY need a new head football coach!

6.  Charlie Weis, Kansas – HEY, Kansas played Oklahoma State tough on Saturday in what sounded like some crazy weather and KU ended up losing by only 7 points to the Cowboys BUT a LOSS IS A LOSS and the Kansas Jayhawks are now…

1 – 6

…on the season with their only win coming over I-AA South Dakota State and the next game for KU is…

At Oklahoma

….next Saturday night!

Good Luck with that one Charlie!

Hey, but things are looking up for Charlie Weis and Kansas after the Oklahoma game because up next is…

TEXAS

…and since the Texas defense couldn’t tackle Pee Wee Herman….

…the Jayhawks might just have a chance to beat what is now referred to around Coaches Hot Seat as the…

PILLOW-HORNS!

7.  Kevin Wilson, Indiana – Now that was a wild game between Ohio State and Indiana on Saturday with the final score being…

52 – 49

….with the Hoosiers losing to OSU but Indiana playing much more inspired and with much more passion than we have seen them play during Kevin Wilson’s time at IU…BUT…and it seems there is always a BUT the Indiana Hoosiers dropped to 2 – 4 on the season and 0 – 3 in Big Ten play and they have left…

At Navy
At Illinois
Iowa
Wisconsin
At Penn State
At Purdue

OUCH!

Indiana might put up another OFER in Big Ten play in 2012 and that certainly cannot make the folks in Bloomington very happy!

8.  Dan Enos, Central Michigan – Maybe someone can explain this Central Michigan football team to us:

Central Michigan BEATS I-AA SW Missouri State to open the season which is like saying the Sun comes up in the East each morning and then after a LOSS to Michigan State CMU BEATS Iowa on the road in Iowa City and then…..

LOSES TO

Northern Illinois
Toledo
Navy

What the Hell?

Here’s the problem for Central Michigan head coach Dan Enos:

Dan Enos took over a very successful Central Michigan football program from former CMU head coaches Butch Jones (Cincinnati) and Brian Kelly (Notre Dame) and in three seasons Dan Enos’ records at CMU are:

Overall:  8 – 22
MAC:  4 – 14

Sorry, but that just SUCKS THE BIG ONE!

Central Michigan and Enos can still save the season now with their record at 2 – 4 and with these games left….

Ball State
Akron
Western Michigan
At Eastern Michigan
Miami (OH)
At Massachusetts

…and IF Central Michigan plays like it did against Iowa it can win four of their last six games to get to .500 on the season and that is the minimum record that Dan Enos needs to return to coach CMU in 2013.

9.  Mack Brown, Texas – After watching Oklahoma DESTROY Texas on Saturday a Coaches Hot Seat member summed up things pretty well:

“Those boys in Texas must not like tackling!”

Check-out these two scores:

2012
Oklahoma – 63
Texas – 21

2011
Oklahoma – 55
Texas – 17

YES, we are thinking the same thing you are:

“What the HELL is going on with the Texas football program?”

There was another significant score on Saturday that reflects directly on the Texas football program and that game was played about 350 miles to the West of Dallas in Lubbock, Texas and that score was…

Texas Tech – 49
West Virginia – 14

So, West Virginia really isn’t that good and that “almost win” by Texas over West Virginia a week ago really didn’t…

MEAN ANYTHING AT ALL!

Texas is now 4 – 2 on the season and 1 – 2 in Big 12 play and if one just casually looks at their remaining games…

Baylor
At Kansas
At Texas Tech
Iowa State
TCU
At Kansas State

…one would think that a REAL TEXAS FOOTBALL TEAM should be able to win the rest of their games before Kansas State on December 1…

BUT

….we know, you know and Mack Brown KNOWS that this is NOT a…

REAL TEXAS FOOTBALL TEAM!

We read a lot of news stories on the game of college football here at Coaches Hot Seat and there have been a lot of coaches talking recently about the lack of fundamentals on tackling and blocking in today’s world of football in general but in college football for the sake of our concern here at Coaches Hot Seat which brings us to something that one of our fathers was told by a legendary football coach that he played for 50 years ago and that “something” was about what makes a great tackler and it isn’t always about tackling form but rather….

“Being a great tackler is about how bad you want to bring that man to the ground.”

In other words being a great tackler is about YOUR…

EFFORT

AND

DESIRE

….and how badly YOU want to get that ball carrier to the ground.

PERIOD.

The problem is that as we have watched the Texas Football Program in recent years we see less and less….

EFFORT

AND

DESIRE

…and if Mack Brown can no longer coach the Longhorns up and get them ready to play in the BIGGEST game of the year against Oklahoma then why in the Hell is Mack Brown still the head coach at Texas?

A better question probably is…

“Why is the Texas football team filled with so many QUITTERS?”

Please, don’t tell us that Texas is getting filled-up with so many Candy Asses that Texas can’t even raised enough young men to field a good football team at the University of Texas that will actually block and tackle anymore!

Please, sure the Hell don’t tell us that because if Texas goes Candy Ass then the American Republic is FINISHED!

Forget about “Gone Country” because we may be looking at in at least in the state of Texas…

“Gone Candy Ass!”

10.  Jeff Tedford, California – Jeff Tedford and Cal got a much needed win over Washington State on Saturday night…. which is a team in Washington State that looks to be filled with LOSERS and QUITTERS so Good Luck with coaching up those LOSERS that have Flat-Out Quit Mike Leach….and that was a huge win for Tedford and Cal because of what they have left on their schedule.

Cal is now 3 – 4 overall and 2 – 2 in Pac-12 play and they have left…

Stanford in the BIG GAME
At Utah
Washington
Oregon
At Oregon State

….and our good Cal-alum friends told us at the Cardinals – Giants game on Sunday night that Tedford needs SIX WINS in 2012 to return next season which means the Cal Bears need to win 3 of their last 5 games and up next is…

Stanford in the BIG GAME!

One thing we can promise everyone about the Stanford – California game in Berkeley next week:

The Winning Coach WILL NOT BE on the HOT SEAT!

The Losing Coach WILL BE on HOT SEAT!

This should be a very interesting BIG GAME with a lot on the line for the teams, the fans, the alums and of course….

The Head Coaches who now know that a LOSS in the BIG GAME means to the HOT SEAT you go!
