A chair on fire... metaphor "In The Hot Seat"

Coaches on the Hot Seat Know What’s Up When They Hear This Song Mr. Cash But Send Them Into the Ring of Fire Anyway Johnny!

Post Week 8 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings

DarrellHazell18818

1.  Darrell Hazell, Purdue – The Purdue Boilermakers had a bye in Week 8 but get after it again in Week 9 otherwise known as…

Halloween Showdown Week

…here at Coaches Hot Seat with a game hosting Nebraska and if Darrell Hazell’s football team is going to get a Big Ten win in 2015 the games against Nebraska this week and/or Illinois in Week 10 might be its best shot!

As for Darrell Hazell’s records now in his THIRD season at Purdue they still stand at:

Overall:  5 – 26

Big Ten:  1 – 18

A friend of ours in Big Ten Country tell us that relative to Darrell Hazell’s future job status….

“If Hazell can win 2 Big Ten games this season then he will probably return for 2016.”

There’s your charge Darrell Hazell…win TWO Big Ten games this season with these games remaining on Purdue’s schedule:

Nebraska
Illinois
At Northwestern
At Iowa
Indiana

Hell…in your THIRD season on the job at Purdue which has a pretty rich football history you for Damn sure as the head coach should be able to win TWO out of EIGHT Big Ten Conference games…in our humble opinion!

PaulRhoads83883 (1)

2.  Paul Rhoads, Iowa State – In a monsoon at times Iowa State played Baylor pretty tough for the last two quarters and left Waco with a 45 – 27 loss which runs the Cyclones records in 2015 to…

Overall:  2 – 5

Big 12:  1 – 3

….and Paul Rhoads’ records over the past THREE seasons at ISU to…

Overall:  7 – 24

Big 12:  3 – 19

…and thus you now know why Paul Rhoads’ ass is sitting on one of the Hottest Seats in American football.

We have heard the charge for Paul Rhoads in 2015 was very simple:

Make it to a bowl game or Turn Out the Lights the Party’s Over

If that’s true then Iowa State MUST WIN 4 of its last 5 games against these opponents:

Texas
At Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
At Kansas State
At West Virginia

Hell…as one of our favorite college professors used to say a long time ago now…

“Hell…Christopher Columbus sailed across the Atlantic and discovered the New World in 1492 so you can Damn sure get your ass prepared to take test in the 20 th Century!”

Do you think the Candy Ass kids on college campuses today would go crying home to their Mommas if a college professor told them that in 2015?

Why Hell yes and that is why a former Stanford dean wrote a great book on how helicopter parents are destroying their own kids’ and America’s future!

Former Stanford dean explains why helicopter parenting is ruining a generation of children, Emma Brown, Washington Post

HowToRaiseAdult818188

Getting back to Paul Rhoads and Iowa State…

Win 4 of your last 5 games Paul or Turn Out the Lights the Party’s Over for Paul Rhoads at Iowa State!

DougMartin281818

3.  Doug Martin, New Mexico State – After watching football for 40-plus years and the college coaching closely over the last decade or so we here at Coaches Hot Seat have some very strong opinions on how an athletic director would go about turning around a struggling football program which begins and ends with hiring a…

Great Football Coach and Leader

….but beyond hiring that Great Football Coach and Leader there also needs to be a strong support system and physical/mental infrastructure constructed behind a head coach and football program for a college football program to truly be successful.

BryantDennyStadium181818

We are going to let everyone in on a closely guarded secret at Coaches Hot Seat….we have a very special mole….well…we have moles across the game of college football in and around university athletic departments that are more than willing to spill some inside info in exchange for an nice lunch but then that’s how a few of us here at Coaches Hot Seat were taught to gather information while serving in the US Military and of course is the bedrock of all great reporting….BUT….getting back to our very special mole who has gone by the name…

CrimsonThroat

….for the obvious reason that he has been at the University of Alabama before Nick Saban landed in Tuscaloosa in January 2007 and he is still at The Capstone today. CrimsonThroat has given us a tremendous amount of insight into Nick Saban and the Alabama football program for the past NINE football seasons (99% of which has never made it into the Coaches Hot Seat Blog) and just what Saban did to rebuild an Alabama football program that was only a few clicks away from a Complete Freaking Disaster when Saban arrived in T-Town and that information plus what we have seen first-hand with Jim Harbaugh at Stanford, Pete Carroll at USC and saw a Helluva long time ago with Steve Spurrier at Florida has led to our strong opinions on just what the Hell MUST be done to rebuild a college football program and that brings us to New Mexico State which lost 52 – 7 to a very average Troy team on Saturday and is deep need of a…

Complete and Total Rebuild of the NMSU Football Program

….starting with New Mexico State hiring the very best one of these they can find…

Great Football Coach and Leader

….once they fire Doug Martin which has to be a certainty in Las Cruces now after the beatdown the Aggies took from Troy.

We can tell everyone and especially our author and media friends in the world…a GREAT book that would sell a Helluva lot of copies would be titled something like…

How To Build A Great and Self-Sustaining College Football Program

…with a subtitle something like…

What Nick Saban, Jim Harbaugh, Pete Carroll, Steve Spurrier and other Great Football Coaches Taught the World About Building A Great Football Program or Any Great Organization For That Matter

Hmmmmm….maybe that is a book that someone here at Coaches Hot Seat should take on!

DennyChimes191919

As for CrimsonThroat when Coaches Hot Seat members are in Tuscaloosa for a football game we usually meet CrimsonThroat on the Friday night before the game at the base of Denny Chimes where all the hand and footprints of former Alabama captains are embedded into the concrete and then we take a walk around the beautiful University of Alabama campus before wandering on down to The Strip for some dinner. One thing that people that work in Intelligence are taught is that sometimes when you have a contact that is feeding your information the contact might indeed be feeding you lots of great info BUT he also might be taking what he is learning about you back to someone higher up in their organization so one night after walking around the Alabama campus with CrimsonThroat and having dinner on The Strip we went our separate ways as usual…but this particular time we followed CrimsonThroat and where did he go to that night?

Right back to the Alabama Athletics building.

Hmmmmm….we thought….is CrimsonThroat in the Alabama Athletics building talking to Nick Saban right now about those Sorry Bastards from Coaches Hot Seat?

We placed the call with one of our cellphones and CrimsonThroat answered the call and said in a very nervous and hushed tone….

“Hey…I can’t talk right now….call me back in the morning…OK?

…and then hung up!

The good news is CrimsonThroat met us the next time we were in Tuscaloosa for a football game on Friday night at Denny Chimes but it’s make one wonder….doesn’t it?

Norm Chow

4.  Norm Chow, Hawaii – With Hawaii’s loss to Nevada on Saturday Norm Chow’s records coaching the Warriors in his FOURTH season at UH now stand at…

Overall:  10 – 35

MWC:  4 – 24

…and Hawaii still has to play this season:

Air Force
At UNLV
Fresno State
San Jose State
La. Monroe

What does Hawaii win….1….maybe 2 more games in 2015?

Talk about a place that could use an experienced head coach with a great offensive track record Hawaii is that place because the losing that Norm Chow is now posting which is unmatched in recent years of Warriors football certainly cannot allowed to be continue and we just happen to know a few experienced head coaches with very strong offensive credentials that would love to take a shot at the Hawaii job and have a Helluva lot of fun while doing it!

KevinWilson77-393x530

5.  Kevin Wilson, Indiana – Indiana played Michigan State tough for about a half on Saturday but in the end the Spartans overwhelmed what looks like a “spent” Hoosiers football team who fell to 4 – 4 on the season and 0 – 4 in the Big Ten play and leaves head coach Kevin Wilson with only one goal left in 2015:

Somehow get to SIX wins in 2015 or it’s OVER for Kevin Wilson at Indiana

As we just said Indiana is now 4 – 4 on the season and the Hoosiers still have to play these games….

Iowa
Michigan
At Maryland
At Purdue

….AND Kevin Wilson needs to win TWO of the above last FOUR games…PERIOD!

DanaHolgorsen17171

6.  Dana Holgorsen, West Virginia – For all the talk of Crazy Boy Dana Holgorsen being an “offensive genius” when you get down to BRASS TACKS and we are all about BRASS TACKS here at Coaches Hot Seat if you look at West Virginia’s records under Holgorsen since WVU joined the Big 12 beginning in the 2012 season those records are not very pretty:

Overall:  21 – 23

Big 12:  11 – 19

Hell…if the above records can keep someone employed at ANY Big 12 school save…

Kansas and Iowa State

…then one has to wonder just what in the Hell has happened to the couch burners in Morgantown who have seemed to fallen down on their asses drunk and are willing to allow….

Way Damn Below Average Football

….to be played in the hills and hollars of the Great State of West Virginia!

Sorry West Virginians….we are just flat-out NOT going to tolerate…

Way Damn Below Average Football

….at West Virginia and either Crazy Boy Holgorsen gets off his ass or his ass will be sent packing with no doubt Crazy Boy walking his ass out of those hills and hollars of West Virginia and back down Texas-way where Crazy Boy should be able to get a job or Hell Crazy Boy could join Pirate of the Palouse up in Pullman, Washington!

Getting back to 2015 Crazy Boy Holgorsen his team’s records now stand at…

3 – 3 Overall

0 – 3 Big 12 play

….and the Mountaineers still have to play….

At TCU
Texas Tech
Texas
At Kansas
Iowa State
At Kansas State

Hell…if Crazy Boy Holgorsen can’t win at least THREE of his last SIX games then Crazy Boy should be sent packing because Hell this is West Virginia football we still talking about here…right?

RIGHT!

7.  Todd Berry, La. Monroe – The Complete Freaking Disaster that is La. Monroe’s 2015 football season got a little uglier on Saturday with a loss to Idaho which leaves the Warhawks record this year at…

1 – 6

…and Todd Berry fighting for his job with these games still on the docket:

At La. Lafayette
At Troy
Arkansas State
At Texas State
At Hawaii
New Mexico State

Hell…there’s at least FOUR very Damn winnable games left on La. Monroe’s schedule and to that point all we can say in this spot is….

Get Off Your Ass Todd Berry!

MikeLondon271717

8.  Mike London, Virginia – The Virginia Cavaliers lost to North Carolina on Saturday and that dropped the Cavs records in 2015 to…

2 – 5 Overall

1 – 2 ACC play

…and head coach Mike London’s record in ACC play in SIX seasons at UVA to:

12 – 31

Damn…that is BAD with a capital B – A – D!

Up next for Virginia a home game against….

Georgia Tech

….but then will the Yellow Jackets even show up to play the Cavaliers after their last second win over FSU?

We sure the Hell don’t know the answer to that question but for Damn sure we would love to be playing Georgia Tech this week!

Come on Mike London….DON’T QUIT NOW SON!

JoeRoth81818100

Speaking of “Don’t Quit” there was a great article in the San Francisco Chronicle last week about Cal Football legend the Late Great Joe Roth who has one of the GREAT stories in college football history that very few people know about and we hope that a few more will know about a Helluva Man Joe Roth was from us and many others telling Joe’s story.

Cal football hero Joe Roth comes back to life in documentary, Sam Whiting, San Francisco Chronicle

Don’t Quit: The Joe Roth Story – www.joerothfilm.com

JoeRothPoster888

As always RIP the Great Joe Roth!

9.  Chuck Martin, Miami (Ohio) – The losses just keep coming for Chuck Martin at Miami (Ohio) and we here at Coaches Hot Seat cannot help but wonder….

Just what in the Hell is going on at Miami (Ohio) Chuck Martin? You are too good of a football coach for his Crapola football son! Get off your ass already Chuck Martin!

Up next for the 1 – 7 Miami (Ohio) Redhawks:

Buffalo

Damn Chuck Martin….Got 1 – 8?

You are about to have it Chuck if you and your football team doesn’t get off your collective asses!

FrankBeamer81818

10.  Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech – Yes, Virginia Tech played a pretty good Duke team tough on Saturday before losing in overtime but to that we can only say….

Yada, Yada, Yada…because this is Freaking Virginia Tech Folks

…and that was the Freaking Duke Blue Devils that just be the Hokies on Their Home Freaking Field when Virginia Tech has at LEAST DOUBLE the talent of the Blue Devils!

It’s not easy for us to say this since we have a lot of respect for future College Football Hall of Fame member Frank Beamer who has forgotten more about football than we ever collectively know here at Coaches Hot Seat but the TRUTH is right now…

Virginia Tech is a very poorly coached football team

…especially with the amount of talent on the Hokies’ roster which has consistently had Top 25 Recruiting Classes over the past SIX seasons and plays like it has Below Top 50 Recruiting Classes which is sure Damn sign of a…

Very Poorly Coached Football Team

Hell…..there’s no Damn shame in realizing it’s over….and if Virginia Tech cannot get to SIX wins in 2015 now sitting with THREE wins with these games left to be played…

At Boston College
At Georgia Tech
North Carolina
At Virginia

….the TRUTH is…

It’s Over For Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech

…and someone else can take a shot at following the legendary Frank Beamer and getting the Hokies back on top which we know for Damn sure is what Frank Beamer wants more than worrying about his own Damn job status in Blacksburg!

Go Beat Boston College Frank Beamer!

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Monday, October 26, 2015 – Leonardo da Vinci

LeonarddaVinci1818188

“Necessity is the mistress and guide of nature.”

And

“Every action needs to be prompted by a motive. To know and to will are two operations of the human mind. Discerning, judging, deliberating are acts of the human mind.”

And

“Experience, the interpreter between formative nature and the human race, teaches how that nature acts among mortals; and being constrained by necessity cannot act otherwise than as reason, which is its helm, requires her to act.”

And

“The acquisition of any knowledge is always of use to the intellect, because it may thus drive out useless things and retain the good. For nothing can be loved or hated unless it is first known.”

And

“That is not riches, which may be lost; virtue is our true good and the true reward of its possessor. That cannot be lost; that never deserts us, but when life leaves us. As to property and external riches, hold them with trembling; they often leave their possessor in contempt, and mocked at for having lost them.”

And

“It is easier to contend with evil at the first than at the last.”

And

“He who walks straight rarely falls.”

And

“Men will seem to see new destructions in the sky. The flames that fall from it will seem to rise in it and to fly from it with terror. They will hear every kind of animals speak in human language. They will instantaneously run in person in various parts of the world, without motion. They will see the greatest splendour in the midst of darkness. O! marvel of the human race! What madness has led you thus! You will speak with animals of every species and they with you in human speech. You will see yourself fall from great heights without any harm and torrents will accompany you, and will mingle with their rapid course.”

And

“Men standing in opposite hemispheres will converse and deride each other and embrace each other, and understand each other’s language.”

And

“It vexes me greatly that having to earn my living has forced me to interrupt the work and to attend to small matters.”

And

“He who does not value life does not deserve it.”

And

“As a well-spent day brings happy sleep, so a life well spent brings happy death.”

And

“Beyond a doubt truth bears the same relation to falsehood as light to darkness.”

And

“He who loves practice without theory is like the sailor who boards ship without a rudder and compass and never knows where he may cast.”

And

“He who wishes to be rich in a day will be hanged in a year.”

And

“I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.”

And

“I have offended God and mankind because my work didn’t reach the quality it should have.”

And

“Learning never exhausts the mind.”

And

“It is easier to resist at the beginning than at the end.”

And

“Necessity is the mistress and guardian of Nature.”

And

“The earth is not in the centre of the Sun’s orbit nor at the centre of the universe, but in the centre of its companion elements, and united with them. And any one standing on the moon, when it and the sun are both beneath us, would see this our earth and the element of water upon it just as we see the moon, and the earth would light it as it lights us.”

And

“The motive power is the cause of all life.”

And

“Every action needs to be prompted by a motive. To know and to will are two operations of the human mind. Discerning, judging, deliberating are acts of the human mind.”

And

“The acquisition of any knowledge is always of use to the intellect, because it may thus drive out useless things and retain the good. For nothing can be loved or hated unless it is first known.”

And

“He who thinks little, errs much.”

And

“It is easier to contend with evil at the first than at the last.”

And

“Iron rusts from disuse; stagnant water loses its purity and in cold weather becomes frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind.”

And

“Obstacles cannot crush me. Every obstacle yields to stern resolve. He who is fixed to a star does not change his mind.”

And

“Wisdom is the daughter of experience.”

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Sunday, October 25, 2015 – Howard Schultz

HowardSchultz72727

“Care more than others think wise.”

And

“Dream more than others think practical.”

And

“Expect more than others think possible.”

And

“Risk more than others think safe.”

And

“I believe life is a series of near misses. A lot of what we ascribe to luck is not luck at all. It’s seizing the day and accepting responsibility for your future. It’s seeing what other people don’t see And pursuing that vision.”

And

“People want to be part of something larger than themselves. They want to be part of something they’re really proud of, that they’ll fight for, sacrifice for, that they trust.”

And

“There are moments in our lives when we summon the courage to make choices that go against reason, against common sense and the wise counsel of people we trust. But we lean forward nonetheless because, despite all risks and rational argument, we believe that the path we are choosing is the right and best thing to do. We refuse to be bystanders, even if we do not know exactly where our actions will lead.

This is the kind of passionate conviction that sparks romances, wins battles, and drives people to pursue dreams others wouldn’t dare. Belief in ourselves and in what is right catapults us over hurdles, and our lives unfold.

“Life is a sum of all your choices,” wrote Albert Camus. Large or small, our actions forge our futures and hopefully inspire others along the way.”

And

“In this ever-changing society, the most powerful and enduring brands are built from the heart. They are real and sustainable. Their foundations are stronger because they are built with the strength of the human spirit, not an ad campaign. The companies that are lasting are those that are authentic.”

And

“Remember: You’ll be left with an empty feeling if you hit the finish line alone. When you run a race as a team, though, you’ll discover that much of the reward comes from hitting the tape together. You want to be surrounded not just by cheering onlookers but by a crowd of winners, celebrating as one.”

And

“To stay vigorous, a company needs to provide a stimulating and challenging environment for all these types: the dreamer, the entrepreneur, the professional manager, and the leader. If it doesn’t, it risks becoming yet another mediocre corporation.”

And

“People want guidance, not rhetoric. They need to know what the plan of action is, and how it will be implemented. They want to be given responsibility to help solve the problem and authority to act on it.”

And

“There is a word that comes to my mind when I think about our company and our people. That word is ‘love.’ I love Starbucks because everything we’ve tried to do is steeped in humanity.

Respect and dignity.
Passion and laughter.
Compassion, community, and responsibility.
Authenticity.

These are Starbucks’ touchstones, the source of our pride.”

And

“There’s a metaphor Vincent Eades likes to use: “If you examine a butterfly according to the laws of aerodynamics, it shouldn’t be able to fly. But the butterfly doesn’t know that, so it flies.”

And

“One of the fundamental aspects of leadership, I realized more and more, is the ability to instill confidence in others when you yourself are feeling insecure”

And

“It’s one thing to dream, but when the moment is right, you’ve got to be willing to leave what’s familiar and go out to find your own sound.”

And

“Every step of the way, I made a point to underpromise and overdeliver. In the long run, that’s the only way to ensure security in any job.”

And

“Treat people like family, and they will be loyal and give their all. Stand by people, and they will stand by you. It’s the oldest formula in business, one that is second nature to many family-run firms. Yet in the late 1980s, it seemed to be forgotten.”

And

“While Wall Street has taught me a lot, its most enduring lesson is an understanding of just how artificial a stock price is. It’s all too easy to regard it as the true value of your company, and even the value of yourself.”

And

“At a certain stage in a company’s development, an entrepreneur has to develop into a professional manager. That often goes against the grain.”

And

“Whatever you do, don’t play it safe. Don’t do things the way they’ve always been done. Don’t try to fit the system. If you do what’s expected of you, you’ll never accomplish more than others expect.”

And

“It’s seizing the day and accepting responsibility for your future. It’s seeing what other people don’t see, and pursuing that vision no matter who tells you not to.”

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Saturday, October 24, 2015 – David Packard

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Saturday, October 24, 2015 – David Packard

DavidPackard81111

“Take risks. Ask big questions. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes; if you don’t make mistakes, you’re not reaching far enough.”

And

“Why are we here? I think many people assume, wrongly, that a company exists solely to make money. Money is an important part of a company’s existence, if the company is any good. But a result is not a cause. We have to go deeper and find the real reason for our being.”

And

“Marketing is too important to be left to the marketing department.”

And

“To remain static is to lose ground.”

And

“A group of people get together and exist as an institution we call a company so they are able to accomplish something collectively that they could not accomplish separately – they make a contribution to society, a phrase which sounds trite but is fundamental.”

And

“The greatest success goes to the person who is not afraid to fail in front of even the largest audience.”

And

“Set out to build a company and make a contribution, not an empire and a fortune.”

And

“A company that focuses solely on profits ultimately betrays both itself and society.”

And

11 Simple Rules

“1. Think first of the other fellow. This is THE foundation – the first requisite – for getting along with others. And it is the one truly difficult accomplishment you must make. Gaining this, the rest will be “a breeze.”

2. Build up the other person’s sense of importance. When we make the other person seem less important, we frustrate one of his deepest urges. Allow him to feel equality or superiority, and we can easily get along with him.

3. Respect the other man’s personality rights. Respect as something sacred the other fellow’s right to be different from you. No two personalities are ever molded by precisely the same forces.

4. Give sincere appreciation. If we think someone has done a thing well, we should never hesitate to let him know it. WARNING: This does not mean promiscuous use of obvious flattery. Flattery with most intelligent people gets exactly the reaction it deserves – contempt for the egotistical “phony” who stoops to it.

5. Eliminate the negative. Criticism seldom does what its user intends, for it invariably causes resentment. The tiniest bit of disapproval can sometimes cause a resentment which will rankle – to your disadvantage – for years.

6. Avoid openly trying to reform people. Every man knows he is imperfect, but he doesn’t want someone else trying to correct his faults. If you want to improve a person, help him to embrace a higher working goal – a standard, an ideal – and he will do his own “making over” far more effectively than you can do it for him.

7. Try to understand the other person. How would you react to similar circumstances? When you begin to see the “whys” of him you can’t help but get along better with him.

8. Check first impressions. We are especially prone to dislike some people on first sight because of some vague resemblance (of which we are usually unaware) to someone else whom we have had reason to dislike. Follow Abraham Lincoln’s famous self-instruction: “I do not like that man; therefore I shall get to know him better.”

9. Take care with the little details. Watch your smile, your tone of voice, how you use your eyes, the way you greet people, the use of nicknames and remembering faces, names and dates. Little things add polish to your skill in dealing with people. Constantly, deliberately think of them until they become a natural part of your personality.

10. Develop genuine interest in people. You cannot successfully apply the foregoing suggestions unless you have a sincere desire to like, respect, and be helpful to others. Conversely, you cannot build genuine interest in people until you have experienced the pleasure of working with them in an atmosphere characterized by mutual liking and respect.

11. Keep it up. That’s all—just keep it up!”

20 College Football Head Coaches Facing CANNOT LOSE Games In Week EIGHT – “They got a name for the winners in the world….I want a name when I lose…they call Alabama the Crimson Tide….call me Deacon Blues…Deacon Blues.”

GusMalzahn11818

1.  Gus Malzahn, Auburn vs. Arkansas – It’s not like anyone here at Coaches Hot Seat needs to tell anyone that Gus Malzahn is facing yet another critical game in his coaching career at Auburn with the Tigers traveling to Fayetteville to play Arkansas on Saturday but consider this for a moment:

If Auburn loses to Arkansas to drop to…

4 – 3 overall

1 – 3 in SEC play

….they will still have to play games against…

Ole Miss
At Texas A&M
Georgia
Idaho
Alabama

….and fight like Hell just to get bowl eligible in a season when many in the media that clearly didn’t know their Asses from the Side of a Barn had Auburn in the 4-Team College Football Playoff!

Even worse with a loss to Arkansas Gus Malzahn’s record in SEC play over the last 6 games dating back to 2014 will then stand at…

1 – 5

….with Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Georgia and Alabama still to play. Could Auburn really end up with a record of….

1 – 9

…in its last 10 SEC Conference games after the Iron Bowl on November 28?

Yes…and that reality must scare the Hell out of Gus Malzahn, Auburn AD Jay Jacobs and the other folks at and around Auburn University that will spend somewhere around…

$50 Million Dollars on Auburn Football in 2015

….and the Tigers might not even make it to a bowl game which only requires a beyond pitiful 6 – 6 record?

Sorry…with 3 Cupcake games and $50 Million Dollars being spent if you can’t find 3 more wins out of the remaining 6 football games then not only should the head coach be fired the athletic director should be sent packing as well because that is an outrage beyond an outrage in every sense of the world outrage!

Good Luck against Arkansas Gus!

BretBielema188181

2.  Bret Bielema, Arkansas vs. Auburn – A question that is impossible for us to answer or for anyone else to answer in our humble opinion is:

Is Bret Bielema a Good Football Coach?

Not….Is Bret Bielema a Great Football Coach BUT rather just is Bret Bielema a Good Football Coach because Bielema’s time at Wisconsin is very warped from what former Badgers head coach and now AD Barry Alvarez established at the school but we will give Bielema the benefit of the doubt and say he was a…

Close to Being A Good Football Coach at Wisconsin

…but then could Paul Chryst also have put-up the same kinds of records at Wisconsin following Barry Alvarez that Bret Bielema did in seven seasons as the head coach which were….

Overall:  68 – 24

Big Ten:  37 – 19

Yes…in our opinion Paul Chryst or any Average-to-Good Coach could have done what Bret Bielema did at Wisconsin which brings us to what Bret Bielema has done at Arkansas now in his third season on the job:

Overall:  12 – 19

SEC:  3 – 16

Damn….Bret Bielema’s 3 – 16 in SEC Conference play really does stand out as being Very Damn Bad and just to understand how Very Damn Bad Bielema’s SEC record is at Arkansas in 1998 Houston Nutt took over an Arkansas football program from Danny Ford that was coming off two-straight losing seasons….not just one losing season that Bielema inherited from John L. Smith…and in his first three years on the job Houston Nutt posted an SEC Conference record of…

13 – 11

…and took Arkansas to bowl games in his first six seasons on the job.

HoustonNut7177171

Do you think it’s Very Damn Important for Bret Bielema to beat Auburn on Saturday and find three more wins out of their remaining five games?

UT Martin
At Ole Miss
At LSU
Mississippi State
Missouri

You bet your ass it’s important because we cannot imagine ANY excuse that would make any Damn sense at all for why a head coach at Arkansas didn’t post at least a 6 – 6 record in his third year on the job unless that head coach was just flat-out…

Not A Very Good Coach.

CharlieStrong288118

3.  Charlie Strong, Texas vs. Kansas State – During this past bye week for Texas a Coaches Hot Seat member made a call down to Austin, Texas to one of his Texas-alum hunting and fishing buddies and asked what was the feeling on Charlie Strong among the “money folk at Texas” and this Texas-alum said straight-out:

“I don’t think Charlie’s going to make if it we don’t go to a bowl game this season.”

What the Hell does that mean the Coaches Hot Seat member asked….

“Exactly what the Hell you think it means! If Texas doesn’t get six wins this season and there is an established or even a hot young coach out there that we can get we will probably have a new head football coach before the New Year.”

Damn.

With the above in mind let’s look at the current situation with Texas football:

Texas is now 2 – 4 on the season and they have left games against…

Kansas State
At Iowa State
Kansas
At West Virginia
Texas Tech
At Baylor

In our opinion if Texas beats Kansas State at home on Saturday they will be 5 – 4 when they head to Morgantown on November 14 and if we were Charlie Strong we sure the Hell would want to win that game against West Virginia to get to 6 wins and not have to win one of those last two home games against Texas Tech or Baylor to keep my Damn job!

Coach ‘Em Up Charlie and play like Men Possessed Texas Longhorns!

KevinSumlin1818181

4.  Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M vs. Ole Miss – As we have written about in the Coaches Hot Seat Blog for years one of the original 7 founders of Coaches Hot Seat that we call the….

Balboa Café 7

….based upon the 7 Coaches Hot Seat members that met in a bar in the Marina District of San Francisco where the Coaches Hot Seat website was dreamed-up in the Fall of 2006 to get then Stanford head coach Walt Harris’ Sorry Ass run off The Farm has Texas A&M Aggie relatives that live in the Houston, Texas area and those Aggies have been Very Damn Accurate in predicting when head coaches at A&M would get their asses run out of College Station and after A&M’s loss to Alabama that Coaches Hot Seat member with Aggie connections called down to Houston and here is how that conversation went:

Coaches Hot Seat: “Hey there. How are things in Houston?”

Aggie Alum: “They suck but then what the Hell would you expect with oil below $50 dollars a barrel!”

Coaches Hot Seat: “That’s too bad. We read the other day that University of Oklahoma president David Boren prays for higher oil prices so the Oklahoma economy will do better and thus more dollars will flow to Norman.”

Aggie Alum: “When you talk to David next time tell him to say a prayer for Texas also!”

Coaches Hot Seat: “Will do although Senator Boren doesn’t take our calls anymore! Hey, after that Alabama beatdown of the Aggies what’s the state of A&M football?”

Aggie Alum: “Hell, Aggie football is a Damn mess! We give Sumlin a F-ing Palace to play football in and his team looks about half-prepared against Alabama and he gets its ass run out of that Damn Palace and now we are headed to play Ole Miss and Damn if I know what will happen this week now!”

Coaches Hot Seat: “So at what point does Kevin Sumlin get on the wrong side of the right people and given a big check and told to go find something else to do with the rest of his life on this Earth?”

Aggie Alum: “Hell, I looked last night and Sumlin is 15 – 12 in SEC play since he got here and if the Aggies lose to Ole Miss I would recommend Sumlin win out the rest of his games this season or at worst lose only to LSU or a few folks might be asked to write a big check come December but then this is Texas so what’s a few million dollars to get rid of a football coach that can’t get the Aggies to the SEC Title Game?”

Coaches Hot Seat: “So let’s see here…A&M is 5 – 1 right now and they have left at Ole Miss, South Carolina, Auburn, Western Carolina, at Vanderbilt, and at LSU. 2 more losses would be a 9 – 3 record overall and 5 – 3 in SEC play…that’s not too bad.”

Aggie Alum: “Sure that’s fine for Houston but Houston doesn’t play in a $500 Million Dollar brand Damn new football stadium and 5 – 3 in conference play is just not going to cut it around these parts anymore.”

Coaches Hot Seat: “What if A&M stumbled three more times in SEC play this season and finished at 4 – 4 in the SEC and 8 – 4 overall….where would that leave Sumlin?”

Aggie Alum: “That would leave Kevin Sumlin without a job on Christmas Day although he would have one big shit-pot full of money to soothe his sorrows over the Holidays!”

Memo to Kevin Sumlin: Don’t lose at Ole Miss son. Signed: Coaches Hot Seat

HughFreeze8181919

5.  Hugh Freeze, Ole Miss vs. Texas A&M – Like with Mark Richt it’s impossible for us to dislike Hugh Freeze although we do get a kick out of both Mark Richt and Hugh Freeze making comments over the years about how “God might have a role in the outcome of a football game” when it’s the firm opinion of the physics majors here at Coaches Hot Seat that the God that spun up this huge Universe has a lot of other things to worry about than if Georgia or Ole Miss wins a football game!

One thing that did catch our eye this past week that was said by Hugh Freeze which we hear all the time from coaches in the aftermath of losses which is the “didn’t execute” thing and below is a Hugh Freeze quote in a press conference after his team’s loss to Memphis:

“On what the team needs to do…
“Defensively, I have evaluated every one of them. It is very frustrating. Like I’ve told our coaching staff, it really doesn’t matter what you know, it matters what your kids know. Over five different occasions we had the perfect call and the play didn’t get made. We need to continue to see if we are not communicating it effectively, or what is causing the problem. We have to continue to work. There are times the other team gets you. Paxton Lynch is a good quarterback and he made some very good plays in that game that we had not seen. When you do have the right call, you need to get off the field. Offensively, we need to continue to work on what we think we can do and stay on those things.””

In essence Hugh Freeze is right in saying that he and his coaches need to learn how to better communicate to the Ole Miss football team so that when something like this happens…

“Over five different occasions we had the perfect call and the play didn’t get made.”

…but then as the Great Bill Walsh said one time if he said it a thousand times something to the effect of:

“Hell, the playcall is meaningless if the team can’t execute it properly.”

BillWalsh17171700

Translation: The playcall is meaningless and has Very Damn Little to do with winning football games because it’s not a play, or a scheme, or a formation, or some kind of trick that wins football games but rather how well the players execute on the field of play and in our opinion watching Ole Miss play Florida and Memphis…

Hugh Freeze has done a Piss-Poor job of getting his football team ready to play their last two games and we rather doubt that Freeze will have his team ready to play Texas A&M on Saturday.

After the loss to Memphis the Rebels are now 5 – 2 on the season with games left against…

Texas A&M
At Auburn
Arkansas
LSU
At Mississippi State

Memo to Hugh Freeze: If you lose to Texas A&M your ass is going on the Hot Seat and if your team plays the rest of the 2015 season the way your team played against Florida and Memphis your team will be lucky to win 2 more ballgames and if Ole Miss finishes at 7 – 5 with all the talent on this 2015 Rebels squad YOU Hugh Freeze are going to find out what your ass being on the Hot Seat feels like for the Entire Damn Offseason and also heading into the 2016 college football season!

Don’t lose to Texas A&M Hugh Freeze or it will be the Hot Seat for your ass son!

Bob Stoops

6.  Bob Stoops, Oklahoma vs. Texas Tech –With a win over Texas Tech on Saturday and with Kansas and Iowa State up next Bob Stoops Oklahoma football team has a chance to be…

8 – 1

….when they travel to Waco to play Baylor on November 14 but then the Sooners actually have to…

Show up and play against Texas Tech like they actually give a Damn about playing football for the University of Oklahoma

….which has not been a regular occurrence for the Sooners in recent years under Bob Stoops in our opinion and why every Damn game should scare the Hell out of fans of OU football since you never know when…

Little Game Bob Stoops

OR

Big Choke Bob Stoops

….will rear its ugly head!

Our guess….Oklahoma will slop around and barely beat Texas Tech on Saturday….beat Iowa State and Kansas (Big Whoop!)….and then the Sooners will get its ass run and lose their last three games of the season to Baylor, TCU and Oklahoma State to finish at….

8 – 4

…on the year which is exactly what….

Larry Harmon

…could have finished coaching the Oklahoma Sooners in 2015…8 and Freaking 4!

GeorgeOleary271717

7.  George O’Leary, UCF vs. Houston – Sometimes you just have to laugh at the Complete Damn Stupidity of college head coaches like this one from UCF head coach George O’Leary….

UCF coach George O’Leary says he won’t release his contract to public, Orlando Sentinel

….like what George O’Leary’s precious ass makes coaching some backwater university in central Florida matters but then this is the same George O’Leary who was hired by Notre Dame but never Damn coached a football game for the Irish because he was LYING on his resume so if the…

Total Piece of Shit George O’Leary is Too Much of A Coward

…to release his contract when he works for a public university funded by state taxpayers where a football team would not exist except for the University of Central Florida existing as a public institution of higher learning then one has to wonder what one can get away with in Florida but then a few Coaches Hot Seat members lived in Florida while serving in the US Navy and there is NOT an amount of money on this Earth that could get us to live in the Sunshine State again!

Getting back to Super Secret George O’Leary whose football team is now sitting on a record of 0 – 7 and still has to play…

Houston
At Cincinnati
At Tulsa
East Carolina
South Florida

…here’s to hoping that Super Secret George O’Leary’s football team loses ALL of its remaining five football games and put-up a BIG O-FER on the board for 2015 which is then followed by someone at UCF coming to their senses and firing George O’Leary’s Sorry Ass in late November!

8.  Mike Riley, Nebraska vs. Northwestern – A very good case could be made that if Mike Riley was just a slightly better football coach the Huskers would be…

7 – 0

…right now instead of 3 – 4 but then we learned a Helluva long time ago that the differences between….

A Bad…An Average…A Good…A Very Good…and A Great Football Coach

…are often very tiny but also very discernible at the same time and our opinion of Mike Riley during his two stints at Oregon State having seen Riley coach from the stands, from luxury suites, from press boxes and from the sideline that Riley is somewhere between….

An Average and A Good Football Coach

….and thus in many ways Nebraska at 3 – 4 right now is what An Average to A Good Football Coach would be after 7 games playing Nebraska’s schedule this season.

Up next for Nebraska….a game against a Northwestern team that is a Total and Complete Freefall that seems to have not blocked anyone since the win against Stanford in the opening week of the season and also looks to us to be on the verge of…

Quitting Completely on Pat Fitzgerald

…and if Northwestern does lie down and quit against Nebraska on Saturday Pat Fitzgerald will find his precious ass with his QUITTING football team right back on the Hot Seat!

PaulRhoads83883 (1)

9.  Paul Rhoads, Iowa State vs. Baylor – Hell, who are we kidding…Iowa State CANNOT beat Baylor in Waco or Baylor in other place on the Earth for that matter so that means the Cyclones will be 2 – 5 on Saturday night with the Texas Longhorns coming to their place on Halloween!

Coach Hard Paul Rhoads….Coach Very Damn Hard Son Because You Have Nothing To Lose!

AlGolden711771

10.  Al Golden, Miami vs. Clemson – F. Scott Fitzgerald of Great Gatsby fame once said that…

“There are no second acts in American life.”

….but Miami head coach Al Golden has a GOLDEN opportunity on Saturday with a home game against Clemson to FLIP the current consensus that his time at Miami has been a HUGE FLOP with win over the Tigers and Hell we see No Damn Reason why the Hurricanes don’t come out and play like Hell against Clemson since Al Golden and Miami have nothing to lose!

The latest we are hearing from South Florida: It’s ACC Coastal Division Champs or BUST for Al Golden at Miami so YES that means Clemson is a CANNOT LOSE game for the Hurricanes and Al!

11.  Mike MacIntyre, Colorado vs. Oregon State –In three seasons as the head coach at Colorado Mike MacIntyre has posted a record in Pac-12 Conference play of…

1 – 20

….and either Mike MacIntyre will start winning some Pac-12 football games or Colorado will find itself a new head football coach…..PERIOD.

With what games Colorado has left on its schedule…

At Oregon State
At UCLA
Stanford
USC
At Washington State
At Utah

….Oregon State looks like CU’s best chance to get a win in Pac-12 play this season which is a STUNNING thing to write as one realizes just how far Colorado football has fallen in recent years which has been a Helluva long fall!

12.  Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech vs. FSU – If Georgia Tech loses to Florida State on Saturday the Yellow Jackets will fall to 2 – 6 on the season and still will have to play games against…

At Virginia
Virginia Tech
At Miami
Georgia

….and face the very REAL possibility that they will not go to a bowl game in 2015! From semi-favorites to win the ACC Conference in 2015 to not making a bowl game…Hell…that sounds like Auburn!

13.  Derek Mason, Vanderbilt vs. Missouri – In his second season as the head coach at Vanderbilt Derek Mason has posted a record in SEC Conference play of…

0 – 11

….after taking over a Vandy team that under previous head coach James Franklin posted SEC records over three seasons of…

2 – 6
5 – 3
4 – 4

Overall SEC: 11 – 13

….which means Bottom-Line Derek Mason better Damn start winning some SEC games starting with a home game this Saturday against Missouri!

Come on Derek Mason…you can win this Damn football game!

MikeLondon271717

14.  Mike London, Virginia vs. North Carolina – Even after a great win in overtime against Syracuse in Week 7 Mike London and Virginia have to get right back at in Week 8 with a tough game on the road against North Carolina which for Damn sure is a…..

CANNOT LOSE Game

…because a loss in this spot would drop the Cavs to 2 – 5 on the season in a season when it’s…

Get to. 500-plus and a bowl game or bust for Mike London!

Good Luck against the Tar Heels Mike!

FrankBeamer81818

15.  Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech vs. Duke – We just laugh at people when we hear them say things like….

“X Coach has the right to coach at Y School for as long as he wants because of…”

…..what…something he did in the past?

Please….in the REAL World employers don’t give TWO RIPS what you did a decade ago, a year ago or yesterday for that matter because the Only Damn Thing that matter is what you are doing…

RIGHT NOW

…and RIGHT NOW Frank Beamer’s Hokies are sitting on a record of….

3 – 4

…and have to play a very tough team in Duke on Saturday in Blacksburg. A loss to Duke would drop Va. Tech to 3 – 5 and we don’t see a chance in Hell that the Hokies would win 3 of their last 4 games against…

At Boston College
At Georgia Tech
North Carolina
At Virginia

….to get to 6 wins in 2015 and can Frank Beamer survive a losing season to return to coach Va. Tech in 2016?

If he can then we will know for sure…..Virginia Tech does not exist in the REAL WORLD!

16.  Kevin Wilson, Indiana vs. Michigan State – Yes….the Indiana Hoosiers can beat what is a very vulnerable and what looks like to us very AVERAGE Michigan State team on Saturday especially if the Hoosiers can hang 40-plus points on the Spartans especially since MSU hasn’t scored 40-plus points this season.

Yes…for Kevin Wilson and the 4 – 3 Indiana Hoosiers Michigan State is certainly a…

CANNOT LOSE Game!

ButchJones188181

17.  Butch Jones, Tennessee vs. Alabama – Not that we give Tennessee much chance to beat Alabama on Saturday in Tuscaloosa, but for Damn sure the Vols are roughly equal to Arkansas and not that far behind Ole Miss and those two teams didn’t do too badly in T-Town this season so maybe Tennessee can put a scare in Bama…and maybe they can’t….so that makes this Alabama game not much a…

CANNOT LOSE Game

…but rather a…

Hell…We Would Love To Win This Game over Bama…Game

…for Butch Jones and his Tennessee football team.

USNavy919199

Memo to Butch Jones:  A couple of decades ago two Coaches Hot Seat members were in a US Navy surface warfare training class on how the US Navy surface fleet would fight the Soviets if a war broke out (this was before the Berlin Wall came down in November 1989) and what the US Navy taught us was that Soviets were very regimented and very by the book in how they went about doing things and that the best way to defeat them was to surprise them by doing things that were not only unexpected but also pissed them off in the process. Since the 2008 season forward at Alabama Nick Saban has lost 12 football games and in each of those games the opposing coach and team did things that make Nick Saban and his football team very uncomfortable….as opposed to Mark Richt who makes it as easy as Hell on Saban and Bama…..and that is the way you beat Nick Saban and Alabama:

You make Nick Saban and Alabama uncomfortable

You piss Nick Saban and Alabama off

Nick Saban and then his football team get tight and they start making mistakes

You beat Nick Saban and Alabama

At the end of one of our surface warfare training sessions a retired US Navy Captain who was the Commanding Officer of several ships during the Cold War came in for a question and answer period and someone asked this retired Captain how best to deal with the Soviets when coming into contact with them at sea and his response was:

“Soviet Navy commanding officers are taught that Americans are kind of crazy and that they will often do unpredictable things and even though they are taught that the unknown of just what crazy thing you might do as an opposing commanding officer scares them the most and that unpredictability is what makes the American warriors such a Helluva tough adversary to beat. Scare the Hell out of Soviets and keep them off balance…that’s what you should do when you come into contact with Soviets at sea.”

Scare the Hell out of Nick Saban and Alabama Butch Jones if you want to beat the Tide in Tuscaloosa!

NickSaban818181

18.  Nick Saban, Alabama vs. Tennessee – No….Tennessee is not a CANNOT LOSE Game for Nick Saban and Alabama BUT on a related note we here at Coaches Hot Seat keep our eyes and ears open and our contacts close meaning decision-makers across the game of football in America could be talking to someone that we have taken to lunch, or done a favor for, or are just good friends with and from our contacts we get LOTS of great information throughout the year with 99% of that info NEVER making it into the Coaches Hot Seat Blog but we will say in this spot on the subject of Nick Saban it’s our opinion here at Coaches Hot Seat:

There is a 50-50 chance at least this is Nick Saban’s last season at Alabama and that Saban will take an NFL job in December if the right team makes the right job offer at the right price with the below NFL teams being places that Saban would consider if the right job offer with the right price was made which is in our opinion something like….

Almost if not Total Control of Team and Front Office

AND

$8 to $10 Million A Year for 7 Years

…and the NFL teams that could offer above to Saban in our opinion are:

Jacksonville Jaguars
Washington Redskins
Tennessee Titans
Indianapolis Colts
New York Giants
San Francisco 49ers
Los Angeles Rams
Detroit Lions
Cleveland Browns

In our opinion Nick Saban would consider working for the following NFL teams in order of preference based upon our best guess:

New York Giants
Tennessee Titans
Indianapolis Colts
Los Angeles Rams

Why would Nick Saban consider leaving a perfect situation at Alabama to coach in the NFL again?

Well…Hell…Saban has won THREE National Titles at Alabama and ONE National Title at LSU and no matter what happens at Alabama this season it’s our opinion that Nick Saban would like to hoist this trophy as well before he’s done coaching:

Lombardi Trophy Football

If we were Nick Saban we would take the New York Giants job over any of the above and then the Tennessee Titans next…and after that both the management and ownership get a little shaky for the Colts and Rams so some serious contract work would have to be done before we would either Indianapolis or Los Angeles.

Oh…and Good Luck against Tennessee on Saturday Nick!

Norm Chow

19.  Norm Chow, Hawaii vs. Nevada – In four seasons as the head coach at Hawaii Norm Chow has posted a record in Mountain West Conference play of…

4 – 23

…and a game at Nevada is a good of a place as any for the Warriors to start winning some MWC games under Norm Chow….right?

RIGHT!

BobbyPetrino919191

20.  Bobby Petrino, Louisville vs. Boston College – With the Complete Freaking Disaster that is now underway at Louisville with its basketball program one has to think that someone at Louisville must be thinking something like…

Maybe we shouldn’t have hired Bobby Petrino after that Arkansas incident

….but then maybe not but for Damn sure with the Cardinals football team now sitting at 2 – 4 on the season and still having to play games against….

Boston College
At Wake Forest
Syracuse
Virginia
At Pitt
At Kentucky

…..a loss to BC on Saturday and Louisville will have a very hard time making it to a bowl game in Petrino’s second season back the second-time around.

YES…Boston College is a CANNOT LOSE Game for Bobby Petrino and Louisville!

Coaches Hot Seat Quotes of the Day – Friday, October 23, 2015 – General Robert Neyland

RobertNeyland8918181

“General Neyland’s 7 Maxims

1. The team that makes the fewest mistakes will win.

2. Play for and make the breaks and when one comes your way – SCORE.

3. If at first the game – or the breaks – go against you, don’t let up… put on more steam.

4. Protect our kickers, our QB, our lead and our ball game.

5. Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle… for this is the WINNING EDGE.

6. Press the kicking game. Here is where the breaks are made.

7. Carry the fight to our opponent and keep it there for 60 minutes.”

And

“You never know what a football player is made of until he plays Alabama”

And

“The team that makes the fewest mistakes wins”

And

“To defeat a weak opponent is not the problem: The problem is to win when he is as good or better than you”

And

“Gentlemen, touchdowns follow blocking as sure night follows day”

And

“If my teams win, my press will be good. If we lose, the press can’t help me anyhow.”

And

“People think I’m the greatest damn coach in the world,” said the great Bear Bryant, “but Neyland taught me everything I know.”

“You can’t embrace your whole life if you’re shut down. I found out that I can’t just run away and shut down. I’m losing the rest of my life doing that.”  Steve Perry

And

“I’m no spring chicken. The same arthritis that ate up my left hip that finally got replaced hasn’t stopped there… And touring is a lot of work. I’m impressed when I see people like Eric Clapton out there. Gee whiz, Eric, give me a break! I know it’s gotta hurt somewhere.”  Steve Perry

And

“I’m so hard on myself. I play these sketches in my computer for friends and they say ‘Gee whiz, the vocal’s beautiful.’ I hear, ‘It needs to be better.'”  Steve Perry

And

“Just a small town girl
Livin’ in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin’ anywhere

Just a city boy
Born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin’ anywhere

A singer in a smoky room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night

Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin’ anything to roll the dice just one more time

Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on

Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night

Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to that feelin’
Streetlight people

Don’t stop believin’

Hold on
Streetlight people

Don’t stop believin’
Hold on to that feelin’
Streetlight people”

Post Week 7 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings – 21 – 30 Hot Seat Head Coaches – Give These Hot Seat Coaches Hell and Give It To Them Straight With the Bark On Johnny Cash

A chair on fire... metaphor "In The Hot Seat"

Give These Hot Seat Coaches Hell and Give It To Them Straight With the Bark On Johnny Cash

Post Week 7 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings

21.  Trent Miles, Georgia State – Trent Miles and Georgia State got a nice win on Saturday on the road against Ball State and now the Panthers get to live in the glow of their 2 – 4 record during a bye in Week 8 before they head to play Arkansas State on Halloween!

Uh – Oh….Arkansas State just beat La. Lafayette 37 – 27 so the Halloween road trip might not end in a win BUT Hell Georgia State got their first win of the year over a team not named New Mexico State so Congratulations to Trent Miles and Panthers and have a nice bye week and don’t give one Damn thought to your records at Georgia State Trent Miles because it’s time to be in your Happy Place!

Overall:  3 – 27

Sun Belt:  1 – 16

22.  Paul Petrino, Idaho – Paul Petrino got a win on the road against a rapidly imploding Troy football team under first year head coach Neal Brown and now it’s up to Petrino to keep the wins rolling in with a game against La. Monroe at home on Saturday in what is a…

Very Damn Winnable Game!

Idaho is now 2 – 4 on the season and still has to play these games…

La. Monroe
At New Mexico State
At South Alabama
Appalachian State
At Auburn
Texas State

Hell, the Vandals might be able to get to 4 wins in 2015 but then the Vandals might need 6 wins in 2015 to save Paul Petrino’s job!

Bob Stoops

23.  Bob Stoops, Oklahoma – In the wake of Oklahoma destroying Kansas State by a score of 55 – 0 on Saturday we here at Coaches Hot Seat and hundreds of thousands of fans of OU football must have been thinking something like:

“What in the Hell was that Bob Stoops? Your football team doesn’t show up against Texas BUT you do show up to play against Kansas State? What the Hell is your problem Stoops?”

It has been our opinion for years here at Coaches Hot Seat that Bob Stoops like his good buddy Steve Spurrier has become a Part-Time coach and not putting in the effort he did during his first TEN seasons on the job in Norman which ran from….

1999 season to the loss to Florida in the January 2009 BCS Title Game

…which means in our opinion Bob Stoops has been giving less than FULL EFFORT for 7 years now counting this season which saw Part-Time and Big Choke Bob Stoops strike again with the Sooners loss to a Very Damn Average Texas team in Dallas two weeks ago.

Oh, we have no doubt at all that if Oklahoma plays like they did against Kansas State the Sooners will be 9 – 2 when they travel to Stillwater for the Bedlam game against Oklahoma State on November 28 which has always been an impossible game for us to predict but then just imagine fans of OU football:

What IF…Oklahoma had played with FIRE against Texas and the Sooners were 6 – 0 and in the Top 5 right now?

Oh, don’t think about that for too long because you will be incredibly pissed-off and besides you better Damn be worried about which Oklahoma team will show up this week to play against Texas Tech….

The Unmotivated and Not Giving A Damn Sooners

OR

The Playing Like Men Possessed Sooners?

Hell, we don’t have a clue to the answer to that question and THAT is the problem with Bob Stoops.

GusMalzahn11818

24.  Gus Malzahn, Auburn – With lots of people trying to explain just what in the Hell happened to the 2015 version of the Auburn Tigers in Gus Malzahn’s THIRD season as the head coach at AU we here at Coaches Hot Seat see the Tigers with a record of 4 – 2 on the season with their 3 wins over FBS wins coming over teams with a combined record of….

9 – 10

….and then 2 losses to LSU and Mississippi State.

In other words Auburn has beaten NO ONE in 2015 in the grand or lower than grand scheme of things and thus why it’s so Damn important for the Malzahn and the Tigers to beat an Arkansas team on Saturday that is sitting on a record of….

2 – 4

….which REALLY makes his a HUGE game for Gus Malzahn because a loss in this spot and it will be…

LOOK OUT BELOW

…with these games still on the slate after the Razorbacks:

Ole Miss
At Texas A&M
Georgia
Idaho
Alabama

Damn….if Auburn loses to Arkansas they are looking right at records in 2015 of…

Overall:  5 – 7

SEC:  1 – 7

And just think who those 5 wins would have been over….

Louisville, Jacksonville State, San Jose State, Kentucky, Idaho

Hell…the bright side is Auburn could claim to be the Champion of Kentucky!

FAUStadium

25.  Charlie Partridge, Florida Atlantic – Charlie Partridge is now in his SECOND season as the head coach at FAU and after the loss to Marshall on Saturday Charlie has records on the board of….

Overall:  4 – 14

CUSA:  3 – 8

…..and in our opinion here at Coaches Hot Seat it’s time for Charlie Partridge to start winning some Damn football games starting with Saturday’s game at UTEP.

Memo to Charlie Partridge:  TIME is EVERYTHING Charlie and TIME is now working against you so start winning some Damn football games and QUICK son!

PaulJohnson989999

26.  Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech – Consider the below FACT for a moment in the wake of Georgia Tech starting the 2015 college football season off with a record of 2 – 5 overall and 0 – 4 in ACC play:

Over the past SIX seasons Paul Johnson has posted an ACC Conference record of…

25 – 19

…..and there is a decent chance that Johnson’s ACC mark over the past SIX seasons will be hovering near the .500 mark when the Yellow Jackets play Georgia in Atlanta on November 28 with these games still left to play:

Florida State
At Virginia
Virginia Tech
At Miami
Georgia

YES….there is at least a 50 – 50 chance that Georgia Tech does NOT go to a bowl game this year which would give Paul Johnson a 100% chance of finding his ass on the Hot Seat for the foreseeable future!

MarkHelfrich18181822

27.  Mark Helfrich, Oregon – Several Coaches Hot Seat members were at the Oregon – Washington game on Saturday night at Husky Stadium in Seattle and the most striking thing as we watched the Ducks sideline closely was how much of the swagger that used to radiate from the Oregon Ducks players is now GONE and in our opinion that swagger is GONE because Mark Helfrich just does not have the “It” and gravitas that Chip Kelly had when coaching the Ducks.

With the win over Oregon the Ducks are now at 4 – 3 on the season and still have to play games against…

At Arizona State
California
At Stanford
USC
Oregon State

…and in our opinion IF Oregon loses to Arizona State a week from Thursday the Ducks have a tough time making it to a bowl game and if Oregon doesn’t go to a bowl game in 2015 Oregon will be looking for a new head football coach come December.

28.  Craig Bohl, Wyoming – Craig Bohl finally got his Wyoming football team off the mat on Saturday with a win over Nevada getting their FIRST win of the year and now it will be up to Bohl to keep the ball rolling this week in a tough game against what suddenly what looks like a very vulnerable Boise State team.

With these games left on the schedule….

At Boise State
At Utah State
Colorado State
At San Diego State
UNLV

….we see no reason why the Cowboys don’t win at least THREE more games in 2015 so keep coaching up the Cowboys Craig Bohl!

NebraskaStadium281818

29.  Mike Riley, Nebraska – Nebraska dominated a stumbling, bumbling Minnesota football team that now looks hardly coached at all and it will be up to Husker head coach Mike Riley to keep things moving forward with a Week 8 game at home against a Northwestern football team that now looks like it’s hardly coached at all and is falling to pieces after a 5 – 0 start to the season.

Mike Riley has ONE task for the 2015 season….making Damn sure that the now 3 – 4 Huskers get to a bowl game and with these games left to play…

Northwestern
At Purdue
Michigan State
At Rutgers
Iowa

….if Nebraska can’t win 3 of their last 5 games then Mike Riley SHOULD be fired in December along with anyone else that thought hiring Mike Riley was a good idea in Lincoln, Nebraska!

30.  Derek Mason, Vanderbilt – Vanderbilt looks like an improved football team over 2014 in Derek Mason’s first year coaching the Commodores BUT with Vandy now 2 – 4 after their loss to the Spurrier-less South Carolina Gamecocks it will be up to Mason to find a couple more wins AT LEAST from the SIX games left on Vandy’s schedule:

Missouri
At Houston
At Florida
Kentucky
Texas A&M
At Tennessee

YES…..Vanderbilt should win AT LEAST 4 Games in 2015 starting with a win over a Very Damn Average Missouri team on Saturday!

Come on Derek Mason….it’s time NOW to start winning some football games at Vanderbilt!

Post Week 7 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings – 11 – 20 Hot Seat Head Coaches – Give These Hot Seat Coaches Hell and Give It To Them Straight With the Bark On Johnny Cash

A chair on fire... metaphor "In The Hot Seat"

Give These Hot Seat Coaches Hell and Give It To Them Straight With the Bark On Johnny Cash

Post Week 7 Coaches Hot Seat Rankings

RonTurner281818

11.  Ron Turner, Florida International – With FIU’s loss to Middle Tennessee on Saturday the Golden Panthers record in 2015 dropped to 3 – 4 and Ron Turner’s records at FIU in his THIRD year on the job now stand at:

Overall:  8 – 23

CUSA:  5 – 14

Can Ron Turner survive to coach another year at FIU if his football team doesn’t win at least 3 more times out of the below remaining 5 football games to get to 6 wins overall?

Old Dominion
At Florida Atlantic
Charlotte
At Marshall
Western Kentucky

Our guess FIU finishes at 4 – 8 or 5 – 7 in 2015 and we don’t have a clue if that is good enough for Ron Turner to return to coach FIU in 2016 and frankly we don’t really care either!

MikeLondon271717

12.  Mike London, Virginia – Mike London’s Virginia football team got a much-needed win in overtime against Syracuse on Saturday which raises the Cavs record to 2 – 4 on the season and now the CRITICAL question is can Virginia find the FOUR more wins that we believe Mike London will need to return to coach UVA in 2016?

What’s left on Virginia’s schedule:

At North Carolina
Georgia Tech
At Miami
At Louisville
Duke
Virginia Tech

Short answer = NO!

Long answer = Not A Chance In Hell!

Good Luck in Chapel Hill this Saturday Mike London because we are pulling for you son!

CUFootballField

13.  Mike MacIntyre, Colorado – We believe a good measuring stick on a college football head coach is the following:

Is a team better today than it was when the head coach took over the team and if the answer to that question is YES how much better is the team?

Hell, if a football team is NO better after a couple of seasons under a new head coach more than likely that coach should be fired since a quality head coach will make dramatic and easily recognizable improvements within a few weeks or months of being on a college campus BUT over a couple of seasons a new head football coach better Damn be making his football team MUCH better or his ass will end up on the Hot Seat and eventually he will be fired….PERIOD!

As for Mike MacIntyre at Colorado our sense is that the CU Buffs football team is a little better than it was when MacIntyre took over before the 2013 season BUT we haven’t seen the improvement we were expecting from Mike and we will be interested to see if Colorado can do anything at all the rest of 2015 with the Buffs now sitting on a record of 3 – 4 and still having to play these games:

At Oregon State
At UCLA
Stanford
USC
At Washington State
At Utah

Our guess Colorado wins 1 or 2 more times in 2015 to finish at 4 – 8 or 5 – 7 with probably either record getting Mike MacIntyre one more season in Boulder BUT we see no Damn reason why the Buffs can’t win at least 3 of their remaining 6 games and finish at 6 – 7 after that opening season and totally Damn unacceptable loss to Hawaii.

Our recommendation to Mike MacIntyre: Beat a Very Average Oregon State team on Saturday son!

CharlieStrong288118

14.  Charlie Strong, Texas – No one ever has to worry where we stand here at Coaches Hot Seat because we give out our opinions with the “Bark On” and if we have a serious bias for or against a coach with two examples being…

Lane Kiffin = We Hate the Sorry Bastard

Charlie Strong = We Will Always Pull for Charlie Strong

….we tell everyone up-front and with that being said even with the win over Oklahoma the Texas Longhorns still have a lot of work to do because with a record of 2 – 4 and these games left to play…

Kansas State
At Iowa State
Kansas
At West Virginia
Texas Tech
At Baylor

…there is a least a 50 – 50 chance that the Longhorns will NOT get to SIX wins in 2015 and that would nothing short of a….

Complete Freaking Disaster

….in Strong’s second year in Austin.

Up next….a very Damn important game for Texas to win over Kansas State on Saturday!

FrankBeamer81818

15.  Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech – With Virginia Tech’s loss to Miami on Saturday Frank Beamer’s record in ACC play over the last FOUR seasons has now dropped to….

13 – 14

….and if that will keep you employed in Blacksburg coaching-up the Hokies then where the Hell do we sign-up because our thinking is….

Bozo the Clown could coach Virginia Tech to a .500 record in ACC Conference play!

Larry Harmon

Up next for Frank Beamer and Virginia Tech…

A Better Damn NOT Lose Game at Home against David Cutcliffe and Duke!

Oh by the way…Virginia Tech is a 3 point favorite over Duke in this game so the Hokies really Better Damn NOT Lose This Game against the Blue Devils!

16.  Curtis Johnson, Tulane – With Tulane’s 42 – 7 loss to Houston on Friday night the Green Wave dropped to 2 – 4 on the season and head coach Curtis Johnson’s record in his FOURTH season at the school fell to….

Overall:  14 – 29

CUSA:  10 – 17

Damn…that’s NOT very good and one would have to think that Tulane will need to get 6 wins in Johnson’s FOURTH year at the school to get a FIFTH year coaching the Green Wave….right? Hell…we would think so but we sure the Hell don’t know for sure!

Let’s look at what Tulane has left on their schedule:

At Navy
At Memphis
UConn
At Army
At SMU
Tulsa

Uhhhhh…there is NOT a chance in Hell that Tulane gets to 6 wins in 2015….in our humble opinion of course!

AlGolden711771

17.  Al Golden, Miami – Miami and Al Golden won their CANNOT LOSE Game to Virginia Tech on Saturday which raised the Hurricanes record to 4 – 2 on the season in a year when Al Golden will need…

9 or 10 wins AND a trip to ACC Championship Game

….to return to coach Miami in 2016 and here is what the Canes have left to play still….

Clemson
At Duke
Virginia
At North Carolina
Georgia Tech
At Pitt

Damn…that’s a pretty tough schedule that Miami still has to play and Al Golden is for Damn sure going to EARN that return to coach the Hurricanes in 2016!

Oh…Clemson is Very Damn Beatable and that the Tigers are only a 7 point favorite or so over Miami proves that point to which we can only say..

Give Clemson Hell Al Golden!

ButchJones188181

18.  Butch Jones, Tennessee – Very few people give Tennessee a chance to beat Alabama on Saturday and no doubt it will take the Crimson Tide being very careless with the football for the Vols to win in Tuscaloosa and with a loss to Bama Butch Jones and UT’s record will drop to…

3 – 4

….on the season with the below games still remaining to be played after Bama:

At Kentucky
South Carolina
North Texas
At Missouri
Vanderbilt

So if Tennessee loses to Alabama and then runs the table they will finish the season at….

8 – 4

…which is about what we had the Vols pegged at in 2015 BUT and it is a BIG BUT if Butch Jones had coached like a man possessed instead of a meekly Coward the Vols COULD be sitting on a record of…

6 – 0

…right now and headed to Tuscaloosa for a Top 10 match-up!

Let that be a lesson to all the young coaches out there….

Life is Short….Don’t Coach Like A Coward!

How many wins by the Vols in 2015 will it take to get Butch Jones off the Hot Seat?

7 Wins Minimum!

Memo to Butch Jones:  You are 15 point underdogs to Alabama in Tuscaloosa so you have Very Damn Little chance to win this game so why not cut Joshua Dobbs loose and see what the kid can do? Oh, and remember Butch…the very best way to beat a bully…was yesterday, is today and will ALWAYS be…Punch the Bully Right in the Mouth!

RonCarager181818

19.  Ron Caragher, San Jose State – In our opinion here at Coaches Hot Seat by your THIRD season as the head coach at San Jose State you should be winning…

7 or 8 Games Minimum

….and in Ron Caragher’s THIRD season coaching the Spartans he is now sitting on a record of 3 – 4 with these games still be played:

New Mexico
BYU
At Nevada
At Hawaii
Boise State

Hell, we see No Damn Reason why San Jose State doesn’t win FOUR of its last FIVE games starting with a win over New Mexico on Saturday!

Come on Ron Caragher….Get Off Your Ass Son or Get Your Ass Fired Son!

MarkRicht818181

20.  Mark Richt, Georgia – We would like to write that the Georgia offense is sputtering because “Self-Appointed NFL Guru” Georgia offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer is running some complicated BS offense that Brian ran in the NFL which led to the TWO teams where he was the OC (New York Jets and St. Louis Rams) posting records over NINE seasons of….

71 – 72

….but the Georgia offense has been as VANILLA as a Mark Richt led offense can be in 2015 and it’s obvious to us here at Coaches Hot Seat that the Georgia coaches know they have very little in the QB position to work with and they are now in a Helluva spot with running back Nick Chubb out of action indefinitely.

Call us CRAZY but in a head coach’s 15 th season at a school like Georgia we would expect the Bulldogs to be loaded at the Quarterback position and not having to take-on transfers from a place like Virginia and for Damn sure Georgia should be winning the SEC East in 2015 especially considering the current state of Tennessee and South Carolina and with Florida having a first-year head coach on the sidelines! Instead Georgia is now 5 – 2 on the season and 3 – 2 in SEC play with these games left on the schedule:

Florida on Halloween in Jacksonville
Kentucky
At Auburn
Georgia Southern
At Georgia Tech

Our guess….Georgia loses to Florida, beats Kentucky, loses to Auburn, beats Georgia Southern…MAYBE….and then beats Georgia Tech to finish at…

8 – 4

If the above did happen that would mean Mark Richt’s record in SEC Conference play over the last THREE seasons would stand at…

15 – 9

….which would be a winning percentage of .625 which is good enough for Mark Richt to keep his job but not good enough to get Mark Richt off the Hot Seat BUT then we here at Coaches Hot Seat….

Have A Helluva LOT Higher Standard for Georgia Football than the Fans of Georgia Football and the People Making the Decisions at the University of Georgia Have for Georgia Football…in our humble opinion of course

….but then someone has to be MEDIOCRE Georgia fans…right?

RIGHT!
