Since Coaches Hot Seat first cranked up a little over 3 years ago we have come up with a lot of ways to rank and/or list coaches, starting with our Coaches Hot Seat Ranking.  The next ranking we came up with may be our favorite, the Winningest Active Coaches Ranking which really bottom lines just what a college head football coach is or is not accomplishing at his current school and during his coaching career. 

We have come up with other rankings and lists of college head coaches in the past 3 years, including many that have never been made public or put up onto the Internet.  One ranking that we still run to this day tracks the arrests of college football players and then ranks which college head football coaches have players with the most arrests.  We update the rosters in our database each fall just before the season and after checking publicly available records out comes a pretty good ranking of which coaches are running programs with very few arrests and vice-versa.  We have not published the “arrest” ranking because it would almost be unfair to head coaches that might be plagued by a series of ill-timed arrests, not to say we won’t publish the Coaches With Most Arrested Players Ranking in the future, but for now it is for our eyes only.

Another thing that has been prominent at Coaches Hot Seat Central from the early days are posters and dry erase boards with lists of coaches under all different categories, Best College Recruiters, Odds of Which Coach Will Win the Next National Championship, Best Coaches to Turn Around a Program, Coaches We Would Most Want Our Sons to Play For, etc…  That last ranking, Coaches We Would Most Want Our Sons to Play For, which ranks the Top 25 or so college head coaches that we would most want to send our sons to play for also has an evil twin ranking, Coaches That Under No Circumstances Would We Allow Our Sons to Play For.  Right now most of our lists and dry erase boards of our rankings and lists of coaches are packed away as we await the completion of the new Coaches Hot Seat Central in another state outside of California (with a nod to some great ideas from Dan Patrick’s studio in Milford, CT)  Dan and his Boys there in Milford have one of the best shows going on radio/TV (DirecTV 101) which airs from 9AM to Noon EST) as Coaches Hot Seat works out of some temporary digs, but the above mentioned ranking of Coaches That Under No Circumstances Would We Allow Our Sons to Play For was recently updated. 

We change the school for the man at the top of that ranking, Lane Kiffin, from Tennessee to USC. 

Very simply, it the unanimous opinion of everyone here at Coaches Hot Seat that we would never allow any of our sons to play for Lane Kiffin and we have believed that since Kiffin’s time with the Oakland Raiders and more importantly when he took over at Tennessee last season.  We believe that Lane Kiffin really only cares about one thing on this Earth, Lane Kiffin, and that unlike some of the other egomaniacal coaches in the game of football, Kiffin actually is on another level when it comes to a man that is supposed to leading young men.

No, there is not a chance in Hell we would allow our sons to play for Lane Kiffin and it is our opinion that anyone stupid enough to trust their kids to Kiffin either doesn’t give a damn about their kids or they are incredibly ignorant.  If Lane Kiffin’s stint at Tennessee and his utter lack of class and respect for the things that existed long before he ever drew a breath on this planet wasn’t enough for you, just do some digging into his time with the Oakland Raiders.  You will get to the truth of what Lane Kiffin is really all about, and USC will as well in the not too far distant future.

No, there is not a chance in Hell we would trust Lane Kiffin with our sons nor in fact would we trust Lane Kiffin with anything we could possibly conceive of on this Earth, human or otherwise. 

Maybe the folks at USC that claim to “know” Lane Kiffin and that they believe they understand what they just brought onboard to replace Pete Carroll…….but they will learn….yes, they will learn very quickly what a sorry sob that Lane Kiffin really is and that in the end his ego and inflated sense of his place in this world will destroy the USC football program.  Of that we are very sure.

Send your sons to USC if you like, but don’t come crying to us when the whole thing blows up, which is exactly what we predicted would happen with Kiffin at Tennessee only days after he was hired at UT.  Below is a Coaches Hot Seat Blog entry from December 1, 2008

Lane Kiffin to Tennessee – A big topic of discussion at Coaches Hot Seat Central on Sunday, besides the Bogus BCS, was Lane Kiffin getting hired to be THE HEAD FOOTBALL COACH at the University of Tennessee.  In the press release announcing the hiring of Lane Kiffin, Tennessee AD Mike Hamilton said:

“Over the past few weeks, we have been on the road meeting with prospective coaches and talking to some of football’s most influential and knowledgeable players and coaches about the future of the Tennessee football program,” UT Athletic Director Mike Hamilton said in a statement. “We have had unbelievable interest from great coaches. When it was all said and done, we felt like Lane Kiffin was a perfect fit for Tennessee. He’s energetic, charismatic, consumed with recruiting and has had a lifelong love affair with football.”

OK… So Lane Kiffin’s main attributes for the Tennessee head coaching job are:  He’s energetic, charismatic, consumed with recruiting and has had a lifelong love affair with football.”

What?  Hell that describes about 1 million college football fans across America and EVERYONE here at Coaches Hot Seat.  We all have had a lifelong love affair with football, but we haven’t seen our names on any of these potential head coaching lists!  Maybe we should have applied for the Tennessee head coaching job!  If Hamilton is going to make this big of a reach, we would have had a decent chance….

Lane Kiffin is “a perfect fit for Tennessee?”  In what way is Kiffin a perfect fit for a football program on the level of the University of Tennessee, when we don’t believe he would be in the mix for the vast majority of head coaching jobs that are now open?  What in the HELL are these people in Knoxville smoking?  Have they completely lost their minds?  We are not quite sure, actually we are very sure, of who got Lane Kiffin’s name into the mix at Tennessee and has been pushing him from the start, but that person and person(s) wouldn’t know what head football coach looked like if Paul “Bear” Bryant came up and kicked them in the ass.  Lane Kiffin to Tennessee?  This actually makes the Mike Shula to Alabama hire look smart! 

We will have more say about Lane Kiffin once he is introduced, because we are holding out hope as fans of the University of Tennessee and as people that love coming to Knoxville for UT football games that the Tennessee folks will wise up in the next few hours and realize that they just made the worst hiring mistake in the history of college football.  Yes, even worse than the Gerry Faust hiring at Notre Dame….  Yes, this hire is that bad….. 

We also have been getting a great kick out of Tennessee fans and media chortling about Lane possibly bring his DADDY to Knoxville to help him out….  OK, we have heard of head football coaches hiring THEIR SONS, but never a head football coach HIRING HIS DADDY……  Yes, that does strike us as very odd, but if Monte Kiffin wants to leave his very well paying job with the Buccaneers to join his son in Knoxville under what is going to be nothing less than a stifling pressure cooker, more power to you MONTE! 

Memo to Monte Kiffin:  If your boy Lane puts up a losing season in 2009, he will be coaching for his and your job in 2010 and rest assured the guy that hired Lane Kiffin, Mike Hamilton will be nowhere to be found if things go bad in the first year for Lane in Knoxville, because Hamilton will be down the road looking for another job in athletic administration…. 

Yes, this Lane Kiffin thing is going to be mighty entertaining!

1 prediction with the hiring of Lane Kiffin at Tennessee:  Phil Fulmer is going to be laughing so hard in the next couple of years as he watches the fools that fired him try to explain the hiring of Lane Kiffin.  Of course, Phil will be laughing and crying as he watches the Tennessee football program implode…..

Actually as we think about it, our opinion has changed some on Lane Kiffin since December 2008…..We now think much less of the sorry excuse for a human being.

Get ready for an implosion USC fans!

As for USC AD Mike Garrett.  After what some of the bullshit that Lane Kiffin pulled at Tennessee and Kiffin’s behavior with both the Raiders and the Vols, Mike Garrett just passed Tennessee AD Mike Hamilton on the don’t have a clue, cannot find a clue, couldn’t find a clue on the best day of my life list.

Mike Hamilton made a very stupid hire in Lane Kiffin that embarrassed and has now imploded the Tennessee program and the same damn thing is going to happen at USC, but unlike Tennessee where you could hire someone that burned down the entire university and get a raise, Mike Garrett will be sent packing with his epitaph being…

The third, and final, idiot that hired Lane Kiffin!

P.S.  Well, maybe not, because there are some very stupid people out there that will feel sorry for Lane Kiffin with his career in ruins before 40 and will wan to “give the boy another chance.”
